Chatter
Chatter is a comprehensive, lightweight, mega-configurable chat enhancement addon. It supports a whole bunch of stuff, including:
- Hiding buttons
- Custom aliases for channel names
- Coloring of player names by class or deterministic HSV formula, and player levels next to names
- Custom font and font size for your chat frames
- Custom background, border, and positioning for the edit box
- Option to let the edit box border color match the color of the channel you are typing in
- Channel colors remembered by name, rather than by number
- Scrolling your chat frames with the mouse wheel.
- Sticky channels, configurable
- Ability to copy a chat frame's contents to your clipboard
- Ability to copy URLs to your clipboard
- Ability to customize the background and border of your chat frames
- Timestamps
- A /tt command to send a tell to your target
- A module that turns the word "invite" into clickable links that let you invite the speaker.
- Highlights both for custom keywords in specific channels
- Chat fading toggles
- Text justification
- Autologging (Off by default)
- Alt linking
- Much larger and smaller chat frames than default
- A Groupsay (/gr) command to talk to your group, whether that's battleground, raid, or party.
- Chat Tab look-n-feel modifications
- Paging through chat tabs with the scroll wheel
Tons of taint, if you need a log PM me.
I'm getting like a crean box around where tabs should be. I don't know what that is about. Had it in beta too.
Got this bug after getting a Professional Grand Master achievement:

Anyone know what's up with the weird green background where the chat tabs are?
I get that too
@Phanx
Don't look at me. I haven't even been able to maintain my own chatter additions after you switched to git. Grmbl.
You only need to turn "Include Level" off. It'll show normal once you do.
Player Class Colors module is still broken after the new update. It prevents you from seeing your own messages in any channel. Turning it off should alliviate the problem for anyone who is experiencing this issue.
Player Names -> Uncheck Enable Player Names
Well it works for me with "Include level" and "Color by difficulty".
Actually you can enable the Player Class Colors module and select the "Include Level" option, but you have to also select "Color level by difficulty" and it will work.
Sorry, but you are wrong. It was already set to color by difficulty. Turning this off just for testing provided the same error (selected or not selected). Deselecting "Include Level". Returns the add-on to showing players in chat. Otherwise there is a current bug that will prevent this otherwise.
BG chat even though selected to show. Now effectively does not show with the new Chatter. While at times that would be nice with the excessive QQ that can happen. If its enabled to show Chatter should be showing it. I have not encountered any othr issues other than BG chat not showing.
Reverting back to the last version as that still worked with patch. This release seemed rushed. Hopefully issues will be resolved soon.
Turning off "Enable Player Names" fixes the not showing issue.
** Edit **
On just toggling things. The actual issue was discovered. It is when "Include Level" is checked. Names will be problematic to showing. Unchecked you'll still see class coloring as normal. Enabling this breaks function.
Suggested feature: Enable class and level scan of seen names into a queue. This way it can build a database of class, names & level from any seen source. General,Trade, etc. As it stands now you have to click them to queue or /who for a update to this information.
@TherianWoLf
^ Please this issue is still present in latest version.. it's a huge pain =(
Changing button height works for the first chat tab, but the other tabs will be cut off, unable to select them in any way unless resetting to a lower height.
I had to disable name colors in Chatter in order for my gchat messages to be visible to me. All other forms worked. Also, to note, all features work fine on Earthen Ring, but when I go to Mok'nathal, same addons, they do not work in gchat as stated above unless i disable the name colors.
running into the same exact issues. had to disable chatter for now, since it's not working with 5.0.4. :(
I also can't see my own chats, say, guild, trade, yells...
opened a new window, doesn't work there either
tells seem to be working when it opens a new window.
other people can see what I am sending
also getting an odd green translucent background where the tabs are...
I was able to see my chat in /g, /2, etc. by turning off name colors. I use class colors, and I was able to turn that on in the default UI.

I can't see my messages in any of the channels (including whispers, guild, party, raid). The only time I see what I typed is in RealID conversation. I have these channels checked in proper chat tabs. Edit: To clarify further, my messages can be seen by others, just not myself.
Chatter also currently breaks the dressing room window, regardless of whether you try to click on something from chat or from your bags.
