Chatter
Chatter is a comprehensive, lightweight, mega-configurable chat enhancement addon. It supports a whole bunch of stuff, including:
- Hiding buttons
- Custom aliases for channel names
- Coloring of player names by class or deterministic HSV formula, and player levels next to names
- Custom font and font size for your chat frames
- Custom background, border, and positioning for the edit box
- Option to let the edit box border color match the color of the channel you are typing in
- Channel colors remembered by name, rather than by number
- Scrolling your chat frames with the mouse wheel.
- Sticky channels, configurable
- Ability to copy a chat frame's contents to your clipboard
- Ability to copy URLs to your clipboard
- Ability to customize the background and border of your chat frames
- Timestamps
- A /tt command to send a tell to your target
- A module that turns the word "invite" into clickable links that let you invite the speaker.
- Highlights both for custom keywords in specific channels
- Chat fading toggles
- Text justification
- Autologging (Off by default)
- Alt linking
- Much larger and smaller chat frames than default
- A Groupsay (/gr) command to talk to your group, whether that's battleground, raid, or party.
- Chat Tab look-n-feel modifications
- Paging through chat tabs with the scroll wheel
The problems with the CopyText function aren't caused by Chatter but by the LibDialog library that it uses to display that box.
To resolve the issue, place the following two files into the World of Warcraft\Interface\AddOns\LibDialog-1.0 folder:
LibDialog-1.0.lua
LibDialog-1.0.toc
Please note that this is not an official update for LibDialog, just my own edits to resolve the issue. I've posted the changes and notes to the LibDialog creator for him to include in a new release, but it hasn't been updated since 7.0.3.
The TOC was changed to update the addon for 7.3.0. If you have any questions, please let me know.
So after downloading what was labeled an update from 4 hours ago, I can definitively say that whatever changes it made... made no difference. Patch 7.3.0 has completely broken the copy text function (what was left of it to begin with), and most of the settings appear to be broken as well.
RIP, I guess.
Still no updates to this addon, so I'm just going to say it:
THIS PROJECT HAS BEEN ABANDONED.
I guess whoever is ultimately responsible for this addon must not be playing anymore since Chatter still badly needs updating. =/
Any chance the background color and border can be set to a global preferences? Same goes for the location of the chat window, it's different for all my characters and I have to use a separate addon to set it up.
Copy text seems to be broken. When I open the copy window, it is blank.

Messes with my pvp join.
Pretty simple question. - Paging through chat tabs with the scroll wheel
How is this achieved? I can't find any settings or key binding options related to this functionality.
Got a problem for wisp from [BN:From], seems doesn't work, anyone got this problem?
Any update on the player colors and brackets change? Changing these settings seem to have no effect:
@slipfoot
with 1.5.3 Pet Battles are working again - thanks ;)
Hey, thanks for the 7.1 updates, copy chat also seems to be not working even on the alpha build, the textbox window it brings up is blank. Edit: Changing settings in Player Names also doesn't seem to do anything, since updating all names in chat have square brackets around them no matter how I change the options for brackets/separator.
@Spomo
Same here, even with older versions which i tried from backups.
@Vampyrate , class colors are VERY LONG since a feature of default Blizzard chat settings. Enable them there.
@Yama1291
I'm having the exact same issue, also trying to just press 1, 2 or 3 etc brings up a .lua error.. when disabling chatter and reloading the interface the buttons return to normal - I''ll post the error next time I'm online :)
Thank you for your work! its much appreciated!
I too seem to be unable to pet-battle or hide the "social" button in the current release. this is how the pet-battle frame looks at the moment: http://prnt.sc/czlml5
In the most recent update, all of my class colored people are gone. My entire guild is now back to the default color when they used to be class colored. Any ideas?
It appears that the social button is now called the "quickjointoastbutton" probably re-named as a part of the new 7.1 feature Quick Join (allowing you to join the in-progress queues of friends). I assume that button re-name is what's preventing Chatter from hiding the button.
