What is the enhancement in mind? How should it look and feel?

It would be great to have a drop down box of your alts which you could click on to view that characters Elephant captures from a different character.  That way, you would not be required to change toons to check on something recorded by another character.

Please provide any additional information below.

That would be awesome! Good examples: when you remember someone said something in guild, when you're on another char you get a whisper / see trade and relog to enchant / portal city PvP breaks out, you relog to your big guy, and want to see what happened Even perhaps add an option to see several / all chars (tickbox?) - that especially so you can seamlessly follow trade, guild. Hmm, option: always see last logged on chars' log also. And search :). In guild we were asked if some chars were good people, and, well maybe they were caught by Elephant, so you could look up what they've said.

A similar, but probably easier to implement feature would just be to allow all log data to be global and shared across all toons, instead of saved per-toon.

Very good suggestion. I'll see if I can log the whole thing for all characters at the same time instead of a different log / different character.

However, this would probably mean that you will have a shorter log overall instead of having 1000 lines for each character. I suppose it isn't really a problem, but it may be an issue during implementation.

    Any news on this one?
I'd really prefer if all chat data was accessible by all characters over having separate data for every single character. Basically, what oscarucb proposed earlier sounds exactly like that.
Elephant saves everything in one big file already anyway. I could see the profiles thing enabled to its full extent so one would be enabled to manually choose a Default profile, or it could as well have an option to completely ignore profiles.

No, Elephant saves this each for every Character. And I think it's not a good idea to share this beetween charakters.

A optional setting to do this in a global file is ok, but to do this as "must have" is a reason for me to stick on the old version.

And I never said anything along the line of compulsion.

I'm all for options and optional stuff, not a rigid layout that tries to fit the most people and leaves half of them with an imperfect solution. That's why I even mentioned the profile system, which is basically already part of the add-on (or the included AceDB library respectively). What I'm aiming at is to add access to the same profiles interface that's used by so many other add-ons, that way basically nothing would change for people who are happy with Elephant the way it is but it would also enable people to choose between profiles at will, thus allowing them to load and save the same profile with more than one character.
This wouldn't even interfere with people's saved settings or data, as all it would do is optionally load and save ["char"]["Default"] (or whatever really) on a per profile basis (still automatically based on the character's name and realm the same it is now if there's no profile set up for that character yet), instead of ["char"]["Charname-Realmname"] based on the character's name and realm as it is now (which completely ignores ["profileKeys"]). It would still work with any data present because ["profileKeys"] already specifies such profiles as "Charname-Realmname" and Elephant just doesn't make use of it, at least not in terms of profiles.
If you're unsure what I'm talking about, take a look at e.g. Recount or RatingBuster which already work exactly that way.

Whether Elephant saves its data in a single file wasn't a question though, just a fact.
I increased the number of lines saved from 500 to 2000, so my log file has become rather huge, unnecessarily so, and significantly adds to the time needed to log in and reload, when I'd really only want it to save 2000 lines (per channel) for all characters, instead of separately saving 500 lines (per channel) for every character, which I think is uncomfortable to work with.
It's a YMMV thing and that's why actual profiles could help a lot here.
