Elephant
"Shoot... what did he say again? I just got disconnected."
"Didn't that folk already loot that rare item 10 minutes ago?"
"I really wish I could remember the name of the item linked on the guild chat yesterday at 9:00 PM."
...
Already been in one of these situations? Don't be annoyed anymore, here is the solution!
Solution to chat loss annoyance
Elephant logs the chat for you in the background even when you get disconnected. It saves the WHISPER & BATTLE.NET, RAID, INSTANCE & BATTLEGROUND, PARTY, GUILD, SAY, YELL and OFFICER chats separately, but also all general chats (General, Trade, LocalDefense, ...), custom chats you are currently on, achievements, loots and finally system messages (auctions, rolls, server going down, ...). You can easily go through all these logs, thanks to a straightforward interface displaying all the access buttons on the right side of the main window. You can access the options of the addon by typing /elephant and also bind a key to pop up the addon.
Elephant gives you the ability to copy up to 100,000 (yes, 100k) characters of logs to another application. A BBCode feature is even included, letting you copy/paste a chat with colors and links to an item database in a very quick and simple way to your favorite forum.
This is THE addon that you should install if you want to never forget what somebody told you in game. Be a pro of managing hell tells, go peacefully AFK for a few minutes, or be an awesome role player. Elephant is also perfectly designed for Guild Leaders, Officers and Raid Leaders particularly because it restores the chats after you've been disconnected.
Main features
- Logs the chats in the background, with a limit of 10,000 lines for each chat (Blizzard's default is 161 lines for everything).
- Saves the logs when you log out or get disconnected.
- Display the chats with timestamps, or using your Prat settings if you have it installed.
- Copy the chat and paste it in other applications (BBCode supported!), up to 100,000 characters.
- Save the chat and combat log in two different files on your computer (using the default Blizzard logging system).
Other features
- Use filters to avoid logging some of the custom channels you join.
- Enable/disable logging for each chat separately.
- Item links in logs are displayed in their proper color and are clickable.
- Player names in the main window are clickable.
- ...and much more!

In reply to VladTheImplierIII:
Same thing is happening to me? It can't be just us two. i can still sifdt through the main chatlog, but oof is that somewhat painful compared to the ease with which i used to be able copy my logs.
In reply to Hudgaar:
It isn't .. I reported this about a week ago: https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/elephant/issues/46
This is something that has, very occasionally, happened in the past, but appeared to be more a glitch than anything else. Now it's persistent. I'll have an experiment and see if I can get more info.
This addon is causing in game issues with scrolling text on my laptop. So far no one else seems to be reporting the issue.
In reply to sommershade:
It can do that, but only in the Elephant window. Normal chat window should be unaffected. If you have a lot of logged lines, this can happen on slower computers.
If you want to minimize this effect, you can reduce the number of logged lines, with the drawback that it won't go as far back in time, unfortunately.
has the project been abandoned ?
if so, can someone please name an addon that acts similarly ?
In reply to BrownChickenBrownKow:
I normally update the AddOn to make sure that it supports every new patch correctly! However, new features are not planned to be added at the moment.
35 pages of stuff to scroll though, so just a quick question. Does this save to a file or do I need to cut and paste periodically?
In reply to Janene274:
This is saved to a file automatically every time the game is closed normally. When you re-open the game, you will have access to all the logs that you saw before closing it.
The file itself on your computer has a weird format however and it would be hard to read it directly
We need a delete button. I just answered my own question when I found the right setting. Thanks anyway
Is there a chance to add a button to disable recording for all channels? It makes it easier to set up individual settings instead of disabling nearly everything when setting thigns up for the first time. Or perhaps a profile?
Im only using the whisper log (since release of the addon^^) but lately Ive noticed that the names of battle.net IDs appears random. I whispered with friend A but it shows the name of friend B. And sometimes the name of someone I havent talked to in a longer time.
I'm having an issue with Elephant in that when I try and copy and paste the copy section, it's all offset, such that I don't know what I'm copying until I've pasted it. Are there any known bad interactions with other addons that may cause this?
I am having the same problem with not only Elephant but other addons too! Didn't start until 7.3. Has anyone found a fix for this?
Can reproduce indeed. That looks like.... a Blizzard UI issue, not something I can fix on my side, as the text is simply added to the copy/past box, and no action is done on the rendering. :(
I'm having this issue in another addon, so it's most likely blizz. (Tinypad) Good luck.
I'm curious: My friend has the aforementioned problem, but I myself can't seem to reproduce it. Everything works just finde. Shouldn't everybody have to problem, if it's an issue with Blizzard UI? Sorry, if the question is stupid. I really have no idea how those things work.
It's working now, but now the sounds come through even with sound and music turned off for some reason.
Hey Shadoca,
I made the sounds play on the Master channel instead of the SFX channel, which is controlled by the Master Volume slider in the options (Ctrl+S is SFX and Ctrl+M is Music). I thought it made more sense to have these sounds still play as:
Do you find this counter-intuitive?
Imo, the sounds should play through the SFX channel, like every other default button in the game.
