Elephant
"Shoot... what did he say again? I just got disconnected."
"Didn't that folk already loot that rare item 10 minutes ago?"
"I really wish I could remember the name of the item linked on the guild chat yesterday at 9:00 PM."
...
Already been in one of these situations? Don't be annoyed anymore, here is the solution!
Solution to chat loss annoyance
Elephant logs the chat for you in the background even when you get disconnected. It saves the WHISPER & BATTLE.NET, RAID, INSTANCE & BATTLEGROUND, PARTY, GUILD, SAY, YELL and OFFICER chats separately, but also all general chats (General, Trade, LocalDefense, ...), custom chats you are currently on, achievements, loots and finally system messages (auctions, rolls, server going down, ...). You can easily go through all these logs, thanks to a straightforward interface displaying all the access buttons on the right side of the main window. You can access the options of the addon by typing /elephant and also bind a key to pop up the addon.
Elephant gives you the ability to copy up to 100,000 (yes, 100k) characters of logs to another application. A BBCode feature is even included, letting you copy/paste a chat with colors and links to an item database in a very quick and simple way to your favorite forum.
This is THE addon that you should install if you want to never forget what somebody told you in game. Be a pro of managing hell tells, go peacefully AFK for a few minutes, or be an awesome role player. Elephant is also perfectly designed for Guild Leaders, Officers and Raid Leaders particularly because it restores the chats after you've been disconnected.
Main features
- Logs the chats in the background, with a limit of 10,000 lines for each chat (Blizzard's default is 161 lines for everything).
- Saves the logs when you log out or get disconnected.
- Display the chats with timestamps, or using your Prat settings if you have it installed.
- Copy the chat and paste it in other applications (BBCode supported!), up to 100,000 characters.
- Save the chat and combat log in two different files on your computer (using the default Blizzard logging system).
Other features
- Use filters to avoid logging some of the custom channels you join.
- Enable/disable logging for each chat separately.
- Item links in logs are displayed in their proper color and are clickable.
- Player names in the main window are clickable.
- ...and much more!

Hello Poisonevy! This is downloadable via the Curseforge app: https://download.curseforge.com/
I haven't updated Wowinterface in a while due to time constraints, but I'll try to look into it. The addon is also available on GitHub, but I rely on the Curseforge automatic releases to package the Addon. Note that you can always download the zip files manually here: https://www.wowace.com/projects/elephant/files
I get the following error when I load in now,
Message: Interface/AddOns/Elephant/Elephant.xml:95 Unrecognized XML attribute: layer
Time: Sun Oct 30 01:27:52 2022
Count: 1
It's for that and 32 other lines. I assume calling UI elements that have been deleted or renamed?

A fix for patch 10.0.0 should be available today!
Replacing all instances of "OptionsButtonTemplate" to "UIPanelButtonTemplate" inside Elephant.xml and Elephant-Copy.xml should bring the buttons back, although some are kind of squashed together. So line 767 in Elephant.xml changes from
<Button name="$parentDeleteButton" inherits="OptionsButtonTemplate"> to <Button name="$parentDeleteButton" inherits="UIPanelButtonTemplate">
To clear all the errors relating to "Unrecognized XML attribute: layer." certain instances in Elephant.xml and Elephant-Copy.xml need to be changed to level. So for example on line 36 in Elephant.xml, <Layer layer="BACKGROUND"> becomes <Layer level="BACKGROUND">
Looking on github, looks like it will be updated Sunday or Monday.

Thanks. That really helped.

Hi, I can't find the copy button. Is there a way to pull the data from the log without using the interface?
Thanks.
In reply to fragilicious:
What he said, it's completely missing after the pre patch.

Just wanted to say Im still using this great addon. Since TBC actually. I hope it will always be updated. Cant play without it! Great work!
In reply to Zasz_:
Hey what gives? for whatever reason after the first part of the pre patch for Dragonflight dropped, Elephant is now missing the copy feature. Is this some sort of bug?
In reply to Tirimor:
Apparently the code regarding some buttons isnt compatible with 10.0.

TBC version works for Wrath. Please add wrath version to curseforge.
Hello AllInOneMighty,
I tried this addon for the first time today and I really like it so thanks for your work. One question though: is it possible to set (default) Elephant settings for all characters? I'm talking about minimap button, chat button, amount of lines logged etc. Currently I have to set all these settings on each character individually and I would like to have just one set of settings which all characters use. I don't mean chat history btw, that ofcourse can stay character specific.
In reply to mmppssxx:
Unfortunately this is not (yet?) possible, you'll have to set it up for each character separately. It's a bit of a tricky one, here, because I can see people wanting to have different configurations for different characters, so I leaned towards having more flexibility.
I'm in Retail WoW and was wondering if there is a way to set up Elephant to log custom chats such as Dicemaster's talking heads? Is that possible?
In reply to Eleantha2:
Custom chats are supported by Elephant, so you should be able to do that! However, if an addon uses a specific addon channel to send data / commands, then Elephant will not be able to catch them due to how the API is implemented.
Do you plan to update the addon to TBC ?
In reply to nihlolino:
Yes, would like to see an update for TBC. Not currently working there.
