Prat 3.0
In loving memory of Jon Akthar (Sylvanaar)
Hello WoW community, I'm LuciferCatnip, Sylvanaar was my coworker and my mentor. It goes without saying that Jon was an amazingly talented individual. He always seemed to know everything… but he once said to me "It's not about knowing the answers, it's about asking the right questions", he always challenged me to ask me the right questions until I would arrive at the answer on my own terms. Jon was also a champion of the open source movement, and so with special thanks to Gil from Curseforge as well as Sylvanaar's family, there's no better way to honor Sylvanaar's legacy than to keep his project going strong in the community.
If you'd like to help maintain Prat, please reach out to MysticalOS or LuciferCatnip directly. Thank you so much.
About
Prat-3.0 is a chat enhancement addon for World of Warcraft.
It is made up of 30+ smaller "modules" which each provide additional functionality, and can be enabled or disabled individually.
In game, type /prat for a menu. Or use the icon on one of the many data broker hosts.
Prat has just about every feature you can think of, and then some. Really. When I get some more time, I'll try and put together a full list (Even I have lost count)
(Thanks to Dreamsight for this partial list)
- Sync your chat settings across your account (Beta)
- Machine learning powered spam filter (Beta)
- Change arrows, buttons, mouse scroll for chat scroll, scroll speed
- you can add player color per channel, color per level, color per class
- timestamps (styled)
- whether to show timestamp (what format the timestamp should be in)
- whether to show players level
- you can select the option for channel "stickys" (last channel you used you auto use when hitting enter, that sort of thing – or last thing someone said)
- change the looks of the chat's editbox - as well as where it appears (you can even undock it and move it to where you'd like it to be)
- chat fading, fading delay
- You can change the font to a list of fonts, add an outline to it, monochrome it (if you don’t mind messing with files a bit you could probably even add other fonts to that list)
- change the chat frame/chat box appearance
- Keep chat history between game sessions
- Set channel abbreviations
- set brackets and color(or something instead of brackets)round player/lvl
- alt invite option (press keyboard “alt” button and click on the player’s name to auto inv them)
- raid icon
- invite links - click them to invite the person
- URL copying
- Full chat copying + copy button
- Click timestamp to copy line
- Configurable alerts when your name or other word is mentioned
- enables tell target /tt which whispers your target
- Alias options - make macros into short commands
- See names of players Alt characters
- change chat sounds (incoming and outgoing as well as per channel)
- Achievements info and grats
- Full chat search and search box
- Customizable filters for advanced users
- Show item icon next to item links and player class icon next to player names
- Icon-only options for newcomers chat
- Optional flashing or font color change for chat tabs when a new message comes in.
You can enable/disable all Prat modules - don't have to have the ones you don't use running
While trying to reduce resource utilization, it is also important to note that some people prefer the features, and don't care that an addon uses 500k more.
Does prat have a feature to where you can make it hide itself while in combat?
Is there any way to move the whole chat box? I tried it with bartender4 but I couldn't :(
I would like to know when I move a Whisper to a new window for the whispers to display in that window along with moving the chat editbox on the Whisper window to display on top?
I have 2 characters with the same name I have had for at least a year on different realms. They were part of the merger realms so technically I have the same toon name (one on each of the merged servers). For some reason there are inconsistencies showing for each toon at different times. Sometimes the names will show class color and level opposite of each other, and other times it shows correct class color and level with with the opposite realm name listed, like it's confused which realm I am on. I have tried deleting some files in WTF, I uninstalled/reinstalled and nothing is fixing this. Any suggestions?
Hi.
I like to have my /g window separated from my other chat windows, but depending on what window the focus is, the input bar moves. Is it possible to stick it to a specific window?
Thanks
With the new update, I get this error over and over. Any Ideas? I use ElvUI but I have the chat functions for that disabled.

Hey!
It is possible to return icon that indicated people from remote chat?
@Rubio9
Thank you, this finally sorted my issue.
Hey, great addon. But i seem to have an issue when raiding with people from different realms, i constantly get a system info message saying "There is no player named " " currently playing" or something along those lines. It can be quite frustrating as its spammed quite a bit and it will say it for each player from a different realm.
Type "/prat" Go to the "Chat Formatting" tab, Select "ServerNames" from left pane, uncheck "Auto-abbreviate"
Edit: still seems to occur, but far less
Actually this is probably not Prat, but recount. If "/recount sync" (which should change your setting to "Lazy Sync disabled") makes the 'There is no player named...' spam stop, then Recount is your culprit.
There's reports that Altoholic (or actually a dependency of it) also has this problem for guild members from merged servers, but that's probably not the problem you're describing.
Hi great addon Ive used it for ages now!
Is there a way to turn it off so that I cant accidentally hit my arrorw keys and paste seomthing I wrote a previous time? Its highly frustrating on this new keyboard to keep posting pesonal whisper lines in other channels. Cant find it if so.
hey, years ago, we used to have the ability to change the width of the free-floating editbox. would it be possible to add that functionality back in?
hey, great addon, is there a way to allow copying from battle.net tells?
thanks
When creating a new window, they refuse to merge with the main General/Combat Log window, locked or unlocked. 'New Window Name' also stays open when you create a new window and press okay. Example:

How do i enable chat scrollback feature? Example, I log off one toon and go to another, and then log back on to my first toon. Id like to be able to see the last thing said in each chat box I have from my previous first characters conversations.
If you lock the main "General " window then the rest of the frame should be locked as well. That's a Blizz thing not a Prat thing though.
Is there a way to lock additional tabs from being moved like the main window? If I create new tabs for /Guild or /Instance there is no lock option while they are tabs in the main chat frame, making them annoying and accidentally dragged out during combat.
I know I can drag them out into additional chat windows and lock them there, but that is not what I want to do.
I think this is under the "Tab Managment" module or something like that.
So, how do I set up my message windows to flash/alert/notify me when I have a new message in one of my other windows?? I had this set up with BasicChatMods at one point but I cant seem to get it going again.
