NOTE: PATCH 5.4 BREAKS PV AND SIMILAR ADDONS
Blizzard has made a major change to the operation of tradeskill hyperlinks in patch 5.4.0, whose implementation seriously affects their usability and fundamentally breaks addons such as ProfessionsVault that rely upon them. Read more details here, and please help complain on the Blizzard Bug Report Forums. A recent tweet from Blizzard Community Manager Bashiok hints there may be a fix forthcoming in a future client patch, however it STILL remains broken after two client patches (5.4.2).
The current release of ProfessionsVault is a "cripped" version that omits the features which rely upon working TradeSkill links (annotated below). There is still no way to open the trade skill links for characters that are offline or you are not directly interacting with. This limitation is imposed by Blizzard's broken hyperlink implementation, as described above. Other features are fully functional, notably including recipe coloring and AH scanning. It notably also allows you to open the tradeskill windows of any same-guild toon in your database (it uses the guild roster to bypass the broken hyperlinks).
Features
Profession list features
- ProfessionsVault automatically records and saves the profession links of all your alts
- Easily allows saving any professions linked from friends or guildies into your database
- <Broken in 5.4> Provides one-click access to the Trade Skill UI of any toon's profession.
- Supports easily posting links of your toon's professions to any chat
- Data is shared between all your toons on the realm, including cross-faction
- <Broken in 5.4> Comes pre-loaded with links to fully-stocked professions
Tooltip/Recipe features
- Enhances recipe tooltips with info about which characters can learn the pattern
- Colors recipes in the Auction House display to indicate which characters can learn the pattern
- Colors recipes in the Merchant (vendor) window display to indicate which characters can learn them.
- Automated scan allows your bank character to scan the AH for recipes learnable by any alt.
- Customizable recipe coloring and character name coloring
Misc features
- Includes an LDB broker with easy access to your professions, supports Fubar or Titan Panel, or can be used stand-alone
- Based on the Ace3 Addon Framework
- Enables the "link" button on all profession windows (default UI just has it for your own)
- Integrates nicely with other profession-related addons such as Ackis Recipe List, Skillet, Advanced Trade Skill Window and Gnomeworks
Usage
- Open the PV window using the minimap icon, LDB launcher or by typing "/pv show" on the command line.
- PV window shows all the saved professions for your character, any alts on the same account running PV, and any profession links you've saved.
- <Broken in 5.4> PV window also includes links to fully-stocked professions (ie containing every recipe)
- Data update happens automatically whenever you open a trade skill window, or you can update them all at any time using the "Scan my Professions" button. PV will automatically update when you learn a recipe or skill up.
- Config button can be used to configure tooltip/coloring integration.
- To save any profession link into PV (eg whispered from a friend or in trade), just open the link and press the new "Save" button that appears at the bottom of the Trade Skill UI. The same technique can be used to merge profession data from a second account (dual-boxing).

* NEW FEATURE: Enhanced LDB/minimap tooltip functionality. The tooltip now provides quick one-click access to all your professions and the all-recipe links.
* NEW FEATURE: LDB text tracks your most recently used or skilled profession and displays current skill level (this text can be disabled from within your LDB display addon)
ProfessionsVault 4.7 includes:
* NEW FEATURE: Enhanced LDB/minimap tooltip functionality. The tooltip now provides quick one-click access to all your professions and the all-recipe links.
* NEW FEATURE: LDB text tracks your most recently used or skilled profession and displays current skill level (this text can be disabled from within your LDB display addon)
The scan appears to be quick enough that I'd like an option that skips the dialog box and just does the scan. I can also accepting waiting until I open the profession to do the scan (which is what ProfessionsBook did).
I'll also accept a RTFM with a hint on which option I should have checked or unchecked because I'm a noob!
Engineering and Alchemy profession links are breaking in the 4.0.6 -> 4.1 transition and will need to be refreshed.
With the latest version 4.4beta 1 Engineering data no longer seems to save. It seems to scan fine & shows when on the toon with Engineering but as soon as you log out the data seems to vanish. It does not show up when on alts & if you log the Engineer back on it automatically asks you to rescan again.
Worked fine in previous versions.
Also get the following error when deleting a characters info.

Second, I have to mouseover every recipe in AH for professionsvault to add anything in the tooltip.
Third, At some point a month ago it stopped coloring my recipe icons.
I use Auctioneer, Auctionsnatch and Auctionmaster. I doesn't seem to relate to them though, but i haven't tested it thouroughly.
If it's still broken please file a ticket at:
http://www.wowace.com/addons/professionsvault/tickets/
with your complete list of addons and version numbers so that I can try to reproduce the problem.
When ProfessionsVault is loaded together with Auctioneer and AuctionMaster, the coloring does not work. If ProfessionsVault are loaded togther with either one it works fine.
The combination of all three makes something happen.
Another solution is to simply right-click the alt in the PV window and uncheck "Is an alt" - this will cause PV to treat that character as an "other" (ie not an alt) and if you uncheck "other" in the Recipe Data options those characters won't appear in tooltips or be used in recipe coloring.
You can right click any character in the PV main window to delete them.
Wouldn't this just rebuild the info the next time I logged into a char?
Is there also a way to remove ONLY 1 trade skill like cooking from 1 character. I have a few cooks from the holiday stuff that will never be maxed cooking and I dont want to see there stuff.. Is there a way to remove that skill and never have it come back unless I tell it to?
My thought was that in the ProfessionsVault UI you have a character list with their skills listed. Wouldn't it be easy to check/click there whichs skills should be shown in ex. the recipe tooltip. I think the data should still be collected.
One thing I've noticed (even with the new update from last week): Some recipes are showing up as "learnable" and green in color when they are already known (for example the tailoring recipe "Blackstrike Bracers").
I don't know if this is a bug on my end or maybe a few recipes just fell through the cracks in the API? Just wanted to bring to your attention.
Thanks so much for the add-on!
I was hoping that I could scan (mouse over) each alts glyph list and find out if my inscription alt could make it. Is this possible?
