Quest Item
Quest item is intended to solve the problem of where on earth did the item I just got for the quest go to in my bags. If you play "hunt your bags" for quest items this is the addon for you.
The idea is that you get what looks like an extra bag (it cant actually give you extra bag space sorry) but that only shows your quest items. If you open this bag you will only see quest items or items that begin a quest. This way you have only a single location to look in to view all the items you need for a quest. You need never again have to open your normal bags to hunt for quest items.
I plan to add features like warning you if you put quest items in the bank, showing quest items in the bag that are in the bank. Colour coding your bag items to highlight quest items, and any other useful feature in line with the goal of the addon that users suggest.
Use /qi show or /qi open to display the bag. Or use the FuBar plugin to click to open it.
Anyway, I have no problems finding my quest items, cause I always put them in one specific bag; I'm pretty sure others do the same. I do, however, have problems finding the quest, that corresponds to an item. That's what the original QuestItem was meant for, so I kinda expected this one to do the same...Which it doesn't, and I am completely fine with that :)
Posted a ticket earlier, but there have been two revisions since then with the same problem, so posting it here.
r22 (also present in r20, the original ticket), USEng server/client. In the "QuestItemFu" folder, the TOC is misnamed as "FuBar_QuestItemFu.toc". Logon with the files extracted as-is, WoW does not find the TOC and QuestItemFu does not appear in the Addons frame.
The TOC file needs to be the same name as the folder its in for WoW to be able to find it and load the mod (i.e. change the file name to QuestItemFu.toc).
ie: You will be able to say you want to track specific items in addition to what Blizzard have tagged as Quest items. Also you will be able to exclude items from the bag that Blizzard have tagged as quest items but you no longer wish to see in the bag.
To me, a simple thing like a coloured border with a "Q" would be more than enough. Don't really want another bag to be honest. Anyhow, that's just a suggestion I'm throwing out to you to see if it is possible or not.
Various cosmetics not right. No bag icon in portrait frame top left for instance, these things will be fixed later. I want to concentrate on getting it working first.
I am sorry but I will not adding that as a feature, I have no wish to duplicate large databases that need maintaining when other addons serve the purpose. Keeping a database up to date with all the item changes is a nightmare in itself I will not go down that route.
There is very basic functionality at present. It shows icons but tooltip is broken, its always using tooltip of last bag not the items.
I've done limited testing of the actual functionality as I didn't have many quest items on my test char. Expect it to have bugs, please report the bugs with screenshots as TICKETS and NOT as comments here. Posting comments to respond to is just a pain at this stage of development, posting a ticket is helpful as you can give detailed feedback there.
Those that understand alphas would also know where to get the code I've done so far :) If you don't know where to get the alpha version then the alpha code isn't for you.
When I start work on it properly I can then take that work and actually start creating a quest bag frame and populating it with the quest items. I plan to make the icons usable but not movable. Possibly have some sort of sorting of the icons perhaps sorted by zone or quest or something.
I also quite like the idea of :
Showing items that start a quest;
Storing items that are perhaps not tagged quest items but are required for a quest
Storing items that are quest items but in your bank - perhaps a different colour to show its not in your bag;
Perhaps a warning if you put a quest item in the bank;
Perhaps an option to highlight quest items in your regular bags;
Any suggestions for features you'd like to see would be helpful.
