In-game lag upon start-up. #372

If you're reporting a problem, please ALWAYS include the following information or I won't be able to help you!  (Suggestions or feature requests need not use this template)

    • Addon version (Example: r664-alpha)
    • Did you RESTART the game after updating the addon? (Make sure to exit and close fully the client, and not just reload your UI, to detect newly-added files)
    • Steps to reproduce the error or unwanted behaviour (If the addon won't load, make sure to enable script errors!)
    • Any other information you consider relevant or helpful in solving the problem (Screenshots, expected behaviour, things you already tried to fix the issue...)

Thank you for understanding! It's not always easy to troubleshoot problems. Please don't make it more difficult by disregarding these suggestions.

<Every single time you log in or /reload UI a lag spike will occur within the first 5-30 seconds. I have friends across the states that also use this addon and encounter the same problem every day. We all have tried /reinstalling the rarity addon, closing the game completely and restarting it, and among other efforts the only resolution for this seems to be disabling "Rarity" before logging in or a /reload.>

    It's a known issue, see https://www.wowace.com/projects/rarity/issues/345.

Unfortunately it can't be fixed without a major rework, so it's taken a back seat for the time being. Sorry!

I've looked into this problem (again...), and it appears I can only reproduce the delay on showing the tooltip with a lot of items enabled (LibQTip/script ran too long errors etc.).

Can you provide me with a debug log of the freezes that apparently occur when logging in? I don't seem to have any, but I'm not sure if they're the same issue or caused by something else entirely.

Hi, firstly thanks for creating this mod. It's very useful.

I have the same problem and I see that you don't have the debug info yet.

Please, let me know how to ...... "take it" from the game and I'll provide it.

You can toggle the debug log by typing

    /rarity debug

or in the Options menu (Interface -> Addons -> Rarity).

Make sure to have it enabled when relogging/logging in, and it'd be especially helpful if you can note what is printed before the freeze occurs.

PS: I did not create this addon, but the original author stopped playing WOW long ago :) That's why fixing this issue is somewhat more difficult than it should be.

Hi there, I was able to start the debug mode, but wasn't able to copy and paste here the output from the game.

However, I've tested few times with reloading, i.e. freezing the game. The thing written before the freeze was different in almost all of the cases. The thing writen after the freeze was the same every time:

    Rarity: Scanning calendar (DELAYED INIT)
    Rarity: Scanning toys (DELAYED INIT)
    Rarity: Scanning transmog (DELAYED INIT)

Hope that this helps. If you need anything else, do let me know, so I can provide it. :)

Well, it's always a nasty experience to fix someone's else code.

I forgot to add that profiling should also be enabled (/rarity profiling) so that it displays how long each step took. Sorry!

Clearly something is taking much longer than it should, and hopefully the log will show what it is right before/after the freeze occurs :) You can also just screenshot it if that's easier.

Hi again, here are screenshots of debug & profiling active.

There are few places that it's around 2 sec wait.

If you need more info, just let me know. :)

P.S. Sorry for the delayed answer.
