What is it?
A fairly simple but very configurable mod that adds damage, heals, and events (dodge, parry, windfury, etc...) as scrolling text above you character model, much like what already happens above your target. This makes it so you do not have to watch (or use) your regular combat chat window and gives it a "Final Fantasy" feel.
Why use 5.0 over WoW's new built in Floating Combat Text ? - SCT 5.0 is a complete rewrite of the mod from the ground up. Its is now based in the Ace2 framework and rewitten with more performance in mind. On top of that, it offers features far above and beyond what WoW's FCT can do. FCT is great if you just need a lightweight SCT with limited options, but using SCT's new Lightmode can get you the same performance with almost all of SCT's normal features.
What can it do?
- Damage messages
- Heals (incoming and outgoing) and Overhealing (with healer ID's), with filtering for small heals.
- Spell Damage/Resists and Damage Type
- All "Miss" events (dodge, block, immune, etc...)
- Custom Colors for all text events
- Config file to setup custom events (self and target), capture data, and display it.
- Debuff/Buff gain and loss Messages
- Low Health and Mana Warnings with values, and optional sounds
- Rage/Mana/Energy Gains
- Enter and Leave Combat Messages
- Rogue Combo Points, 5 CP Alert Message
- Class Skill alerts (Execute, Overpower, CounterAttack, etc...)
- Honor, Reputation, Skill Gain
- Eight Animation Types (Verticle, Rainbow, Horizontal, Angled Down, Angled Up, Sprinkler, Curved HUD, Angled HUD)
- Four Fonts
- Two seperate Animation frames, each with their own settings. Assign any Event to either.
- Ability to flag any event as critical or as a text messages
- Sliders for text size, opacity, animation speed, movement speed, and on screen placement (with custom editbox)
- Lightmode, for when you care most about performance (at the loss of a few features).
- Now Based in Ace2.
- CTMod, MyAddons, Cosmos, Cosmos2 support
- Settings saved per character by default, but supports all Ace2 Profiles
- Load/Delete settings from another character. Load built in Profiles.
- Localized to work in almost all WoW clients.
How do I use it?
First unzip it into your interface\addons directory. For more info on installing, please read install.txt. Now just run WoW and once logged in, type /sctmenu to get the options screen.
SCT_EVENT_CONFIG.LUA is used to setup custom message events. Please open up the file (notepad, etc...) and read the opening section to understand how to use it all. PLEASE NOTE - THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FILE IN SCT. IF YOU DON'T READ IT AND USE IT, THEN YOU ARE MISSING OUT ON A TON OF WHAT SCT HAS TO OFFER IN CUSTOMIZATION
/sctdisplay is used to create your own custom messages. Useage: /sctdisplay 'message' red(0-10) green(0-10) blue(0-10) Example: /sctdisplay 'Heal Me' 10 0 0 - This will display 'Heal Me' in bright red

My custom event doesn't work. What's wrong? - Make sure you have the text exactly right, punctuation and capitalization matters. If you need help learning how to capture data, please see the examples or try this site http://lua-users.org/wiki/PatternsTutorial. If its still not working, please read about SCT_Event_Debug and SCT_Event_List in the bottom half of SCT_EVENT_CONFIG.LUA to learn how to add almost any chat event to SCT's search capabilities
How do I change the text for parry, block, etc...? - open up the localiztions.lua file and look for the event you want to change. Then change the text to whatever you like. As of 4.1, you may also now add a custom event for these. As of 5.0 You will get notifications automatically for event specfic skills like Overpower, CounterAttack, etc...
How do I get get text to scroll? I only see numbers! - Make sure the "Show Events as Message" option is unchecked. This is only if you want events to appear as static text (not scrolling/animated)
I don't understand what the 2 frames are for! - Each frame lets you set different features. So you can set frame one using Sprinker animation and Default font, while frame 2 can be using Veritcle animation and Adventure font. You can then assign each event to a specfic frame using the radio buttons next to the events.
There's too many options. Help someone new see how things work! - Try out some of the new built in profiles. While on the options screen, click the "Profiles" button. At the top of the window will be a listing of some default profiles to try out. Maybe you'll fine one you like or it will spark some ideas for you to try.
How do I change the fonts? - You can now select from four fonts on the options page. You can also change the font of message and apply the font to the in game damage font used for your damage (requires relog)
I don't like friendly nameplates on. How do I make my heals appear over who I heal? - Friendly nameplates have to be on in order to show your heals. SCT will turn them on if you turn on the option, but you must manually turn them off if you don't like it (see Target keybindings).
I don't like the new spell icons, how do I turn them off? - There is an option to turn them off under the animation tab.

i would like to know if/how i can make polymorph and perception can be captured please. the SpellAlert addon doesent show these 2. there is one old addon(alerter) that does and im using that one *just* for this. first of all i really like the idea for these 2 events to be shown via sctmostly cos of custom fonts and colors) and secondly i want that addon gone already :) "x begins to cast poly.(1.5secs to go) x casts poly on you.(the actual cast, to late to do anything now) you gain poly.(speaks by itself)" i managed to capture last one, with 'you gain poly' but its to late(doh :P) "x gains perception" didnt manage to figure anything for this one.
i think if other mods can capture the events from combat log, it should work with sct aswell..or better yet, if u can capture a heal from some1 else u should be able to capture a hostile cast aswell.

I have a problem I cant solve by myslef. Is there a way to change size and position of some txt showing ? Im talking about honor ifno per kill and +combat -combat. I saw on some movies that ppl hav it just over the head of the character - and quite big. mine are small and on the verry top of the screen. How can i change that. Thanks in advance.
I was wondering if some wise person could help me with the needed text to show my heals landing on people in combat text scrolling. I know it was there at one point and they would see who healed them (Name) with old version if they had the addon. Also to see what part of spells I resisted , I really love this addon , but some great things have been edited out for memory purposes or something and I wish to put them back in , any help is much appreciated and I thank you. Im glad someone has this knowledge cause I sure dont and I hate scrolling thru other chat logs to see my heals.
Hi man. Could you please add something like this for the next release, maybe you can set up an option to toggle this feature on or off or something like. Anyway I just replaced some lines line 390: SCT_Display_Toggle(SCT_LowHP..": "..UnitHealth("player"), SCT_GetColor(11));
line 402: SCT_Display_Toggle(SCT_LowMana..": "..UnitMana("player"), SCT_GetColor(12));
As you can see is just a minor change that shows the remaining hp/mp when the Low mana! or Low HP! message pops up. It is really helpful for me and I tought that you may like the idea of adding it to the next release

I may be off on this, but shouldn't sct display when I get a critical strike just like when I take damage? I believe the word critical should pop up on screen when I get a crit. My question is how do I get the critical to pop up? It never says when I get a crit when they happen. I saw a SS of a warlock in zg showing his 5k+shadowbolt crit. He was using sct. In the middle of his SS were the words "****ing Raped". I read that the words that sct displays could be modified. I would like to know how to do this if its possible to get sct to say when i crit and change the words. Any help is very much appreciated.

And here is the searched data, you need to add in your sct_event_config.lua, making sure to replace XX with the your numbers.

It will display it in this format:
"SPELL NAME" (-XXX "SPELL SCHOOL" Damage : XXX Resisted), i.e.
Nova Shock (-345 Frost Damage : 56 Resisted)
Change the format to what ever suits you.
How can I show rage generated, including with each melee hit?
That's pretty much exactly what sticky crits do. It means anything that is a critical hit doesn't scroll, but appears as larger fading text, just like the built in crits for your hits.
Ok sorry for being noob, but i've tested this addon with both sticky crits checked and unchecked and i can't find the difference. Can somebody plz tell me what this option does?
Oh and while we're on the subject of crits, is there a way to make the crits taken like... bigger.... similar to how the crits that i deal show up bigger than normal hits. Just a thought.
Ceras, you need to totally delete your SCT folder, redownload the file and make sure it is 3.53b. The sct.xml file in that zip is using he same font it always used, not looking for one in an addon folder. It is fixed, you just still have the wrong one installed for whatever reason.
Gray, I like your addon alot, but your latest version is not fixed. It does try to look for the font directory in the addon directory, as per the instruction set in the sct.xml file. -Here is the fix i did- I created a font directoy in the Addon directory then went to control panel and under fonts control applet I copied the Tw_Cent_Bold.TTF which is the twentieth century bold font and pasted it to the newly created addon directory, this solved my issues. It just kept looking for that directoy since it could not find it-- the font as the masterfont was not being set. Hopes this helps others. Here is the statement in your sct.xml file <FontString name="GameFontLarger" inherits="MasterFont" font="Interface\Addons\Fonts\Tw_Cen_MT_Bold.TTF" virtual="true">
Great mod! Can I ask a favour: you specify FRIZ__QT.ttf as the display font - can you change this reference to be generic? As the author of 'ClearFont' I have to override sct to make it show correctly! Thanks very much!
This is a great mod, but can point gains be added for Reckoning (pala ability)

What would I have to alter in order to move the frame for the damage being done to a mob to a different location? When I fight mobs in MC I can not see the text due to their height... I was wondering if I could set it to right or left of my hero so I know how much aggro im pulling....

I've tried to make a custom event for my grounding totem, but i cant get it to work...
I've tried to make it as simple as possible, but it does not work. The current event is like this
[9] = {name="grounded", search="Grounding Totem", r=0/256, g=0/256, b=256/256}
I want the text to be displayed when the totem absorbs a spell. The text shows perfectly when i cast the totem... but when the totem absorbs something, nothing is shown... Why does it not work?
I am using the latest version. I'll delete the SavedVariables and reinstall as well. See how it goes.
The other questions seem to be about static messages, which mine is not. I looked through the examples in both the localization and configuration files, and neither seems to be the correct way to show partial spell resists. If it is, is there a site where you have an example up of how to do this that I could look at? Thanks Grayhoof.
