ArkInventory
ArkInventory (for The War Within)
:boom: Please ensure you are using the latest alpha version if you have the War Within client.
ArkInventory (for Retail, Classic, and Cataclysm)
ArkInventory's display windows are built from "virtual bars", you assign categories to bars so that items in that category are displayed on the specific bars you want. There is no limit to the number of bars you can have inside a window but obviously you only have so much screen real estate before it becomes "too many".
ArkInventory uses several methods to assign a default category to an item such as what professions you have, tooltip scanning, basic type/subtype and PeriodicTable. You then assign those categories to a virtual bar.
You can also over-ride the default category by creating a rule that matches either a single or multiple items.
Overview:
- user configurable window width and height
- separate keybindings for each location for easy viewing
- assign items to a category of your choice (overrides the default assignment)
- assign categories to the bar of your choice
- unlimited number of bars (there are practical limits though before your screen becomes full)
- sort each bar differently if required
- user configurable bars per row
- sell junk items automatically or manually (delete available via a keybinding or right clicking when at a vendor)
- random pet and mount summons. can also assign a group of them to select from
Key Bindings:
- Press ESCAPE to bring up the blizzard menu
- click on Key Bindings
- scroll down to AddOns > ArkInventory
- bind the keys you want to use

:boom: The NoLib variant
it seems quite a few people are somehow getting the NoLib variant from their download client when they didn't specifically ask for it, instead of the full variant, and its causing issues as they don't have the required libraries installed separately. Please ensure you are downloading the full. if you see nolib in the filename then its the wrong variant, unless you are actually installing all of the required libraries separately as well. If you have to you can manually download the full variant from CurseForge, WoWInterface, or Wago.
:boom: Junk Sell getting blocked
While auto-destroy remains blocked, From 30960 onwards you can setup a Key Binding to manually sell and destroy your items. Note that blizzard require one keypress per item deletion, so if you have multiple items that need to be deleted you will need to press the Key Binding multiple times. A message will be output if you have remaining items that can still be deleted.
:warning: Ensure you have backup copies of your saved variables file
Sometimes you cannot revert back to a previous version without a backup, especially alpha or beta versions, so before upgrading please make sure you have made a backup of your saved variables file
Your saved variables file is normally located at ...\World of Warcraft\_client_\WTF\Account\yourwowaccountname\SavedVariables\ArkInventory.lua
It is your responsibility to ensure you have adequate backups of your saved variables file. You dont have to do them frequently, just after you've made major changes to your config is probably fine for most people, but you should get into the habit of making backups because when it does corrupt you wont have to reconfigure everything from scratch.
If you have your download client set to automatically download alpha/beta versions you should definitely have backups.
A simple way to back up the saved variables file is to just do a copy and paste then rename the new file (using the version number of ArkInventory or the date is a good idea), eg ArkInventory-30900.lua, or ArkInventory-20191228.lua
i'm adding some more on the bottom of the sorting wiki page to explain how to change individual bars - i didnt do it up front because i didnt think it was needed yet.
theres no real wiki page for edit mode and its functions yet, just too much stuff to remember to write wiki pages for
You could stop a lot of confusion over your recent changes in regards to sorting etc. by including text copies of your FAQ and sorting method tutorial in the distribution file to reside in the installation directory. As I've discovered the last 3 days in helping guild mates to set up their AI sorts (once I figured it out myself) they all use the Curse Client to get updates and it didn't occur to them to check the description page at the web site to see if any significant changes had been made. They looked in the installation directory for read-me files, but not the Curse web site. It's a sad fact of life that most people are in too much of a hurry to play and never read the docs!
One addition you might want to make to your sort method tutorial is to add a section about the new sort method entry that is now in the pop-up edit menu when you click on a bars red number box. If it's in your tutorial then I completely missed it. The lack of that info is what led to my first message about the sorting methods and your FAQ.
The problem I had was that once I set up my backpack to have the original auto-sort method, for 2 bars it wasn't working at all like it should have. It took me quite a while to find out that those 2 bars were set to use the Rarity-> etc. method, and that they overrode my config Bag/Slot sort settings options for those 2 bars in the backpack. How those 2 bars edit menu sort method got changed in the addon LUA file I have no idea as it wasn't something I did myself. It was quite frustrating finding out what was wrong, as clicking on the bars red number boxes and using its edit menu isn't something I usually do. Actually, I only noticed it when I went to move a bar to a new location and saw the sort method entry. If you had made mention of that edit menu setting for individual bars it probably would have been the first place I'd of looked.
Oh yeah, seeing as how I mentioned it in the last paragraph, if you have anything detailing the change to how bars are moved, I also missed that. Not that it was all that hard to figure out, but it would have been nice if it was mentioned.
Heh... In spite of kvetching about all of the above, I really do like what you're doing with AI, that 'Rarity->....' sort method has really cleaned up my Bank/Guild Bank and made them immensely more usable. AI is on my short list of core 'must have' addons.
thanks
you have to use the same settings choice in the control options so they look identical. theres no way to copy them as then just make a few changes.
i've also added some options to disable cooldown updates while in combat which should reduce the updates even further if required.
i thought i was able to catch the effect and code around it but i must have missed it somewhere.
is it only the backpack being affected? or other bags as well?
I'm a Hunter. In fight this is continously, the scanning in fight causes a lot of lag.
It get's a little better if i close the inventry, but still causes lag.
I remember the version 3.2.36 and lower didnt have this problem.
hunters use ammo, every time you shoot it changes the ammo item stack and causes a rescan of the bag its in.
as a hunter you dont want the bags open in combat unless your pu/gpu can keep up, as it has to redraw the items every time you shoot - put things you use in combat on your action bars so you dont need to keep your bags open.
