Cartographer 3.0
This is a map addon for World of Warcraft that replaces the map and offers shiny features.
The idea is for it to work very much like Google Maps, only in-game.
Cartographer 3.0 is brand new, "experimental" version of Cartographer.

Why not? It's his add on, they both are. This he feels is the new incarnation of Cart, and it goes with WoW 3.0 (a lot of mods that are changes things for wotlk xpac have done the same) If you can't look at the screenshots and see it's different yourself. That's your problem, not his.

(And the rest of you shut up with your whining, its totally annoying to listen to.)
You can use simpleminimap to take or add icons to minimap.
Gatherer you can use for herbs and what not, you can use gatherer DB wowhead for nodes. You just have to import the nodes from gatherer.
Second, two questions:
(1) Are any Mining/Herbalism mods compatible with Cartographer 3.0 (maybe the old Cartographer ones)?
(2) Any chance on an option to hide the Map button on the mini-map?
Anyway, good job so far on Cartographer3, and I hope you continue with its development and features.
www.carboniteaddon.com I run the full version btw.
Some issues though:
- (0.10.1): still zoom/texture bugs rather often (no more map in cities, juste a blue texture), gonna check 0.10.2
- is there a function such as "reduce/enlarge windows with a click" I'd missed? (basically like for a GUI window, having 2 "size states")
- is there a way to integrate the numerous notes I had gathered with the 2.x version?
Thanks for the hard work :)
Seeing Mine Nodes on my map and mini-map.
Seeing Herb Nodes on my map and mini-map.
Seeing any other gathering objective on my map and minimap.
Seeing Quest Objectives on my map and mini-map.
The easy zoom in and zoom out functions with rightclick and leftclick buttons.
A brief summary of each zone, including recommend leveling range, fishing range and a list of instances in the zone.
I tried out Cartographer 3. Frankly, I didn't like it. The map moves and shifts in and out on it's own a bit, but the scrolling zoom in and out is at least an interesting idea. It's a poor replacement for the old version of Cartographer if it does not do any of the things I listed above. It does seem to want to simulate Google maps. That's fine, but does have the same broad-reaching improvement to everyone's gameplay experience as the prior version? Currently, no it does not. The aggravating thing is that the Cartographer collection of addons was PERFECT in almost every way. It was a beautiful one-stop shop of many addons in one. It replaced many many things and did so in impressive fashion. It was a little buggy sometimes, but the diversity of it's functions was absolutely brilliant.
It was one of my short list of, "Can't imagine playing without it" addons. The sad thing is, this isn't the only addon on that list that is doing something similar: Reinventing the addon to do some nifty thing or another, and either dumping or back-burnering all the most desirable functions and features in the process. Auctioneer anyone?
In the end, if the developers of Cartographer want to ignore the concerns of me and the rest of their user base that misses the old features, that's fine. I don't pay for the thing. It's freeware written by someone nice enough to share with the rest of the world. Beggars can't be choosers. It's somebody else's toy and they get to choose what they want to do with it. It's just extremely disappointing to lose an addon that was so incredibly useful and versatile.
On that note, does anyone know of any addon or combination of addons that does some or all of the things that old Cartographer used to do?
I want to hit M and be able to see where I am, zoom out
with a click to the continent etc...
This mod now does none of this. Very bizarre
what these map mods have decided to do.
Gaining cute effects at the expense of functionality
is bad design.
