This project is abandoned and its default file will likely not work with the most recent version of World of Warcraft. Whether this project is out of date or its author has marked it as abandoned, this project is no longer maintained.

CARTOGRAPHER HAS NOT BEEN UPDATED FOR 3.3!!!

DO NOT CREATE BUG REPORTS SAYING IT IS BROKEN!

There are no plans to do any major bug fixes for Cartographer (v2 or v3). If there is an update it will only be a minor fix. (It has already been this way since at least 2008.) Cartographer(v2) uses an outdated framework that will not be updated in the case of major breakages so Cartographer(v2) would require a complete rewrite. Neither of the two main developers (Ckknight and Arrowmaster) have the time nor desire to do this currently. Occasionally a new version might be released to include fixes made by other developers or new versions of embedded libraries.

Cartographer is a modular, lightweight, and efficient framework for manipulation of the world map. It is based on Rock and other libraries of the WoWAce community.

Battlegrounds : allows viewing of battlegrounds outside of the zone.
Coordinates : adds coordinates to the bottom of the world map of the player and the cursor.
Foglight : Shows unexplored areas on the map. replacement for MozzFullWorldMap or Unexplorer. Much more efficient, though.
Group Colors : turns all your party's and your raid's POIs into circles colored based on class, and shows a number on them based on their raid group.
Instance Maps : shows maps of instances.
Instance Notes : adds boss notes and such to instance maps.
Look 'n' Feel : allows you to change the transparency, position, and scale of the world map.
Notes : lets you put notes on the map, similar to MapNotes.
Zone Info : on hovering over a zone, it will show the levels of the zone, the instances in the zone, their levels, and the group size the instance is made for (e.g. 5-man, 40-man).

"Look'n'feel" was completely messing up my map. The big issue for me was that the pointer telling me where I am was about 1100 yards off from where I really was. This totally fixes it.

I've loved this little slice of paradise for years. It was def in the top 3 addons of all-time IMHO. It would seem that many share my opinion. That said, what a fickle bunch we are. So many comments start with such glowing praise and then switch into QQ mode. A lot of blind conclusion leaping seems to be taking place about "refusing" to update or "too lazy" to update. I don't know Adam from Eve on the situation, but what if... and stay with me... just what if maybe the lead dev actually has some RL stuff going on that make it impossible for him/her to update currently, but they love the project and don't want to give it up because they intend to come back to it as soon as humanly feasible? Heaven forbid that they have cancer or something, and they are currently undergoing chemo treatments. That would certainly be an excusable reason. And if I were that dev, and I got myself healthy again and sat down to finally update this... I'd not do it after reading all this backstabbing. The facts are simple: It's not being updated at this time, and to my knowledge, any and all assumptions as to why are guesswork at best. So before you call someone lazy for not updating, what have YOU done? Have you taken hours upon hours of your time to learn code? If you know code, have you taken your time to create a similar addon? No? Then YOU must be lazy as well. See, it's a two-way street. So my advice to all is simple... quit acting like a bunch of 2 year olds who just had their bottle taken away. Quit crying, grow up, sack up, and try and limit your daily anonymous flaming.

Of course, this is a prime example of irony. ;-) At least it was positive, supportive irony.

Very Nicely stated. To add my two cents - Pony up or Shut up - Too many user comments here seem to imply a right to use Cartographer without a responsibility to see it maintained. I would add that maybe CK just got tired of spending countless hours doing code only to have whiny users - who are free loading off his work - complain about this or that without an honest attempt to actually assist a solution.
I Love Cartographer and truly hope that it is updated in the future. As someone who has no aptitude for writing code, I am not in a position to update the software, so I am actually donating -
(Yes, instead of complaining about the Donate button, I'm going to USE it)

CK has made it clear that is no planned update, but I'm willing to bet 15$ that if I and ten or twenty other people do the same, there is a chance that an update would become a higher priority. If not, that $15 is still a small price for the amount of use I get out of Cartographer.
So my point remains, Pony Up or Shut Up. Oh, and yeah the disabling of Look n Feel works beautifully. Still some glitches, but considering that there hasn't been a major update in over a year - no complaints. It is a testament to the superior programing Ckknight, Arrowmaster, and the other authors put into this. For that I am thankful because if Cartographer was truly broken I'd be left without anything decent.

Cart has received numerous donations even with it no longer being developed. This is why the "donate" button still remains. So its not simply because it isn't getting enough money. CK mentioned it was because of all the coding would have to be redone. And he didn't wish to redo it all. THAT is why its no longer in development. Donations were never the issue. Rather the code was.

This whole thing is busted. It doesn't work at all with the new patch, and they've probably screwed over thousands of donators... They simply refuse to work on it.

I miss this addon more than any other I use. And the way it looks, I'm not the only one.
One of the most popular WoW addons abandoned. I feel sorry for those who donated to this just to have the project abandoned.
Update it please or turn it over to someone who will.

it's a damn shame you guys arn't going to work on Cartographer anymore. one of my favorite addons in wow, and i it's unusable now(for me atleast) because it's always messing up.

Hey, guys.When I pull up the map, my icon is shown way off to one side, along with a few other indicators on the map. Is there something I can do to fix this?

This was THE best map addon. The transparency aspect was genius as well as many other features. Seriously this was the best map addon, and there are none at the moment that compare.

This is some garbage.. a kick @$$ addon not being updated cause the developers are to douchy to do anything with it .. Carbonite is a piece of crap. I enjoyed using Cartographer made my map tool and everything else that went along with it easier.. Sad that all those people who donate, donated to this.. wow way to set people who support you.. Lets put a Donate button on my site and promise nothing!! :D Maybe you should take all these people's advice and either update or turn it over to someone else.

It's sad to see such a nice add-on go to complete shit. You should take the donate button off as some people may be under the impression that their paying for an updated quality add-on (obviously not the case). If you're not going to update the add-on then at least hand it over to some one who can and will? I just don't wanna see this add-on go to waste.

ANYONE has the ability to learn how to program and rewrite the hundreds (thousands?) of lines of lua code that make up Cartographer. Even though CK does not actively support Cartographer any more (and hasn't for at least a year), he and the others who decided to help with Cartographer would probably be thrilled if one or more skilled programmers decided to pitch in and rewrite the base libraries to make Cartographer fully compatible with the current patch of WoW

Then again even if such activity was to be done. Who says in the end they'll refuse the code to be used. They have stated that they won't release it. And that it will stay abandoned. This clearly says that even if that happened. They still most likely wouldn't allow it.

Yeah, CKnight is lazy. With over a dozen addons to his name, not to mention authoring and contributing to libraries that his and other addons depend on, it is amazing that he does not spend more time programming and less time working on working for a living and dealing with personal relationships outside of World of Warcraft.

Actually, it should work very well. The new map/quest list change in the last patch might cause you a problem, but other than that, the addon still works great for me.

The one thing I know I can't get working is the add notes to map thing (the rest I'm not too bothered with other than the QuestInfo bit). There are some UI display issues here and there but it's probably because of one of my other addons. The add notes to map is the only thing I would really like working again. Should note that it displays old notes just fine. I could probably manually edit the note database to add new notes but would rather not go to that level of fiddling.
