Casualty
This mod doesn't really do anything directly useful; it was just an itch I wanted scratched.
A few gamers may remember Bungie's amazing "Myth: The Fallen Lords" back in the mid-90s, which set the bar for small unit fantasy tactical combat (and a wonderful backstory/voiceover "feel" which imho has yet to be matched in any game since).
Anyway, one of its well-done (albeit depressing) features was that whenever one of your units died, rather than either glossing over it or dwelling on it, a neutral voiceover voice would just say "Casualty." And in a big battle where you were sweating bullets and your troops were dying in large numbers, having this horribly neutral voice chanting "Casualty. Casualties. Casualty." was both maddening and yet energizing. It added something.
Anyway, for no good reason I decided I wanted that in WoW, so I coded up this little mod. It's horribly incomplete (for one thing, it triggers when pets die, which I should fix, and may trigger on other things) but it did what I wanted, so I thought I'd share it. If I have time and anyone in the universe wants it to do more, I may add more flexible announcements, integration with SCT so you get a message zipping up the screen with the name of who died, etc. But right now, with its basic "casualty" message, it does what I wanted.
Note: What you have for a sound sample is me and a microphone, since the actual sound samples from Myth are not free for public distribution, so feel free to go through the trouble of replacing them if you wish.

Just a little headsup. I noticed there is a working up to date version of casualty on files.wowace.com
http://files.wowace.com/Casualty/Casualty-r77631.zip
I belive thats the newest one right now. I was starting to miss it. ^^
Hey - I wanna say that this mod is really awesome, esp. when you're steamrolling through instance and then <oops, someone died>. Cause I rarely watch those things myself ... plus, I just love the clichè of it :P
But I was wondering if there's a way to make this mod work with the current (2.4.2) patch, cause the addon loads, the test(s) work, but it doesn't report anything as soon as someone died. Is there some kinda solution to this ? Thanks!
> Btw, any chance you might change the "no_survivors.wav" from > saying "oh dear" to actually saying "No Survivors"?
(chuckle)--actually, sure; I'll just re-include it in the distribution (I actually changed it FROM "no survivors" as part of a joke to my regular raiders who use this, because I tend to say that when things start going really badly) and forgot it would be distributed that way. May take a couple days; I'm recovering from vacation and catching up on everything I've been lazy about.
Oh this brings me back... Very nicely done. I remember Myth... My god I was like... 9 years old watching my brother play. Hehe.
Bravo
Btw, any chance you might change the "no_survivors.wav" from saying "oh dear" to actually saying "No Survivors"?
Sweet addon! -CaptainSnake , I wouldn't trade theese sounds for anything! So cooooold... =D

Awesome mod I love it. I replaced it with BF2142 sounds so they say "MAN DOWN MAN DOWN!" if only it plays a random sound when it works :(
New version updated; let me know if you have any problems (2.0 isn't showing up in the files list yet, but it's available on the Download Now button).
Okay, coming soon. It seems to work (and I've made YakHelpers embedded, so no separate YakHelpers dependency) but I want to test it in a group; have a bit more patience!
Casualty MAY work for TBC; testing it tomorrow (at least it loads). More soon.
1.3.0's up! Hurrah! Added SCT and the ability to change text color (in main window and SCT) as well as voice disable if necessary.
...fixed some bugs (try "Defaults" from config--serves me right for copying code from GreenLight). Also added the ability to change color of the text.
Best part, though: Scrolling Combat Text! If you have SCT and enable the option, you'll get your "Casualty" messages scrolling past along with the rest of your combat spam. Woot!
Man im late. I hope you keep this updated. It really is a simple but very effective addon. Rock on Vputz.
This mod is incredibly useful as a healer. AND fun and cool to boot! :)
Rawq--
Thanks for the reminder! I do have a new version of Casualty just about ready for publication (adds a "mass casualties" warning and a "no survivors" warning, which can be toggled off). I'll try to get it up soon.
Ah, scratch that. I'll put it up now.
This casualty addon is one i depended on a lot in PvE raids. My totems would expire and I would get the casualty sound and re drop them. Im holding out hope you will update this addon.
Rune--
Actually that shouldn't have been the behaviour you saw. What Casualty was doing was naively changing the target to the person who had died (TargetByName) and then immediately targeting the last enemy you had targeted (TargetLastEnemy)--which shouldn't have you targeting a different enemy (in fact all people were reporting to me was that combo points mysteriously vanished--they weren't seeing the wrong targets).
So I doubt that was the problem--but if it was, I've been using this version for months without problem, so give it a try!
sorry double
