Daily Quest Viewer
- Due to 3.3's release and new group finder / random heroic features, I am discontinuing this addon and have no plans to continue development in the future. *
An addon which uses AceComm background communication to inform others with the addon of today's dailies.
To use, click the blue exclamation point icon that is on your minimap, or type "/dqv show" into the chat box. Note that until there is a strong community using the addon on your server, quests will still show up as "unknown".
New version released; contains a number of features asked for:
- Oracle, frenzyheart, jewelcrafting dailies
- (Ugly) Interface allowing you to choose between quest "groups" to access the other quests.
Regarding AceComm, the addon should already be staggering the /join to the channel until a few seconds after. Unfortunately this doesn't seem to work.
Isn't there any way this addon can work without adding a publicly visible channel to my chat list?
Of course, it would be better if the addon only joined the channel a certain time after login, so that we are at least in General already, or that it other measures of communication, like other addons do.
Thought about doing an addon like this myself, but I'm not very firm with the lua system yet :P An idea that occured to me, though, was to be able to get shared certain dailies (that are sharable) from other users, maybe through an automated invite-share-accept-leave mechanism (the user of course has to activate this in the options) or show which players are currently on this quest, so you can /w them for a short invite&share.
Hmm not sure if you want to incorporate the JC daily, keep the shatt cooking and fishing daily as well?
After you complete a daily, it should "remember" what the daily was. The only time the addon loses its knowledge of the dailies is it is unloaded (either by logging out, quitting, or doing a reloadui). Even then, as long as one person with the addon remains logged on, it should be able to retrieve what the daily is from him again.
Steps I took:
1) Get quest from The Rokk (this one was "Soup for the Soul")
2) Checked DQV, verified that it was there.
3) I verified that I was the only person on the server with the addon.
4) Completed the quest, and turned it in to The Rokk.
5) Checked DQV again, quest was still listed.
Did you do anything between getting the quest and turning it in?
Daily normal will not show up for me no matter what I do. I have even opened up the dialog with the NPC and still nothing.
Does this addon ask the server, only other players who have it or the NPCs for the information?
The addon doesn't ask the server, it only relies on other players, or yourself going to the NPC directly. Specifically, it checks the quest's name against an internal database. So if I typed the name of the quest incorrectly it won't show up. So with that, two questions:
1. What localization are you using? I only wrote the English one, and don't have any contact with the people who wrote the other three. If you're using one of those versions, it's possible that they didn't take the quest name from the game itself and instead translated my addon literally.
2. If you were using the English version, what was the Daily Normal that day? I'll double check that against my quest list to see if I made a typo somewhere or something.
Answered my own question- there's a bug in the localization code that causes the Daily Normal quests in the "quests" table to be replaced with the Daily Heroics that are in the same instance.
I'll post a fix tonight or tomorrow- I got a raid in 10 minutes :P.
Edit: Raid's over; new version will be up shortly.
Is there anyway to change the acecomm channel to default to some channel other than channel 1?
This is a long-standing bug with AceComm. I myself am unsure of what the solution is supposed to be as of yet, and it's hard to test since I can't reproduce it myself. I'll try an experimental solution suggested to me in the next release, but no promises as to whether it will work or not.
I suppose some instructions couldn't hurt :P. Just added these to the description as well:
Click the blue exclamation point icon that is on your minimap, or type "/dqv show" into the chat box to pop up the Daily Quest Viewer. Note that until there is a strong community using the addon on your server, quests will still show up as "unknown".
