Elephant
"Shoot... what did he say again? I just got disconnected."
"Didn't that folk already loot that rare item 10 minutes ago?"
"I really wish I could remember the name of the item linked on the guild chat yesterday at 9:00 PM."
...
Already been in one of these situations? Don't be annoyed anymore, here is the solution!
Solution to chat loss annoyance
Elephant logs the chat for you in the background even when you get disconnected. It saves the WHISPER & BATTLE.NET, RAID, INSTANCE & BATTLEGROUND, PARTY, GUILD, SAY, YELL and OFFICER chats separately, but also all general chats (General, Trade, LocalDefense, ...), custom chats you are currently on, achievements, loots and finally system messages (auctions, rolls, server going down, ...). You can easily go through all these logs, thanks to a straightforward interface displaying all the access buttons on the right side of the main window. You can access the options of the addon by typing /elephant and also bind a key to pop up the addon.
Elephant gives you the ability to copy up to 100,000 (yes, 100k) characters of logs to another application. A BBCode feature is even included, letting you copy/paste a chat with colors and links to an item database in a very quick and simple way to your favorite forum.
This is THE addon that you should install if you want to never forget what somebody told you in game. Be a pro of managing hell tells, go peacefully AFK for a few minutes, or be an awesome role player. Elephant is also perfectly designed for Guild Leaders, Officers and Raid Leaders particularly because it restores the chats after you've been disconnected.
Main features
- Logs the chats in the background, with a limit of 10,000 lines for each chat (Blizzard's default is 161 lines for everything).
- Saves the logs when you log out or get disconnected.
- Display the chats with timestamps, or using your Prat settings if you have it installed.
- Copy the chat and paste it in other applications (BBCode supported!), up to 100,000 characters.
- Save the chat and combat log in two different files on your computer (using the default Blizzard logging system).
Other features
- Use filters to avoid logging some of the custom channels you join.
- Enable/disable logging for each chat separately.
- Item links in logs are displayed in their proper color and are clickable.
- Player names in the main window are clickable.
- ...and much more!

Sorry for the multiple mail, had browser problems
The more i look at it, the current issue some folks have with elephant not being able to copy and paste correctly seems to be a text size issue. I've noticed the cursor for copy and past is larger than need be for the text in elephant for me, but for my roomate it is just perfect. now im not sure if this is a resolution issue or what. but perhaps iof we could adjust text size? i dunno, jsut a thought im not a programmer.
In reply to Hudgaar:
Interesting. Why is the text size different on your game? Not saying that it shouldn't, I'm trying to figure out what's going on. So you're saying if the text is larger in which part of the UI? Do you have a screenshot by any chance?
In reply to AllInOneMighty:
I also agree on the copy issue, when I mouse hover some texts, it tends to skip few sentences, or words.
Any chance we may see Elephant ported to Classic?
In reply to aliyrra:
I'd like to know as well, really missing knowing what happened in chat :-/
In reply to ithinkispider:
dunno if you already have it.. but it still works in classic.. when you dont want to check the loa dout of date addons.,. then open the .toc file and change the 80200 interface number... or 80205 if you have the newest file .. into 11302 and it works perfect without checking the load out of date addons.
In reply to GingersnapsOut:
It just recently stopped showing up in my classic addons list even though it's still there in the actual files. :(
In reply to GingersnapsOut:
I just uploaded a version fit for Classic. Let me know if you have any problem with it!
Would there be any way of copying the guild chat log .. ie .. the chat that occurred when you weren't around?
In reply to Forge_User_59190908:
The AddOn cannot log anything that happens while you are not connected to the game.
8.2 seems to have broken it. Cannot properly copy/paste text. It cuts off no matter how far you scroll down.
In reply to VladTheImplierIII:
Hello, how many lines of log do you have and what's your maximum number of characters set?
"Max log" can be found at the top right of the main window.
"Max characters" can be found at the top right of the copy window.
In reply to AllInOneMighty:
It's already set to max on both.
In reply to VladTheImplierIII:
Thanks. What do you mean by it "cuts off"? Where does it do so? Is it only when you open the copy window? If it is, is the cut off text at the top or at the bottom?
The number of characters should likely NOT be set at its max, because the copy window has a maximum amount of text that can be displayed. Unfortunately, due to how the Blizzard API works, the number of characters varies depending on their size (if I remember correctly?). For example, you wouldn't be able to show as many "W" than "." in the copy window.
Try reducing the max to 10,000 or 5,000 and see how it behaves!
In reply to AllInOneMighty:
I used to be able to have max on both without any issues at all.
Max log lines: 10,000
Max character lines: 10,000
What happens is this:

I attempt to select all, but it 'skips' lines. Had no issue selecting everything before 8.2.
In reply to VladTheImplierIII:
Interesting.
I'll give it another look. This seems to be out of reach of what an AddOn can fix, however. :(
In reply to AllInOneMighty:
That seems strange to me because it's literally never done this before the newest patch?
In reply to VladTheImplierIII:
Same thing is happening to me? It can't be just us two. i can still sifdt through the main chatlog, but oof is that somewhat painful compared to the ease with which i used to be able copy my logs.
