Elephant
"Shoot... what did he say again? I just got disconnected."
"Didn't that folk already loot that rare item 10 minutes ago?"
"I really wish I could remember the name of the item linked on the guild chat yesterday at 9:00 PM."
...
Already been in one of these situations? Don't be annoyed anymore, here is the solution!
Solution to chat loss annoyance
Elephant logs the chat for you in the background even when you get disconnected. It saves the WHISPER & BATTLE.NET, RAID, INSTANCE & BATTLEGROUND, PARTY, GUILD, SAY, YELL and OFFICER chats separately, but also all general chats (General, Trade, LocalDefense, ...), custom chats you are currently on, achievements, loots and finally system messages (auctions, rolls, server going down, ...). You can easily go through all these logs, thanks to a straightforward interface displaying all the access buttons on the right side of the main window. You can access the options of the addon by typing /elephant and also bind a key to pop up the addon.
Elephant gives you the ability to copy up to 100,000 (yes, 100k) characters of logs to another application. A BBCode feature is even included, letting you copy/paste a chat with colors and links to an item database in a very quick and simple way to your favorite forum.
This is THE addon that you should install if you want to never forget what somebody told you in game. Be a pro of managing hell tells, go peacefully AFK for a few minutes, or be an awesome role player. Elephant is also perfectly designed for Guild Leaders, Officers and Raid Leaders particularly because it restores the chats after you've been disconnected.
Main features
- Logs the chats in the background, with a limit of 10,000 lines for each chat (Blizzard's default is 161 lines for everything).
- Saves the logs when you log out or get disconnected.
- Display the chats with timestamps, or using your Prat settings if you have it installed.
- Copy the chat and paste it in other applications (BBCode supported!), up to 100,000 characters.
- Save the chat and combat log in two different files on your computer (using the default Blizzard logging system).
Other features
- Use filters to avoid logging some of the custom channels you join.
- Enable/disable logging for each chat separately.
- Item links in logs are displayed in their proper color and are clickable.
- Player names in the main window are clickable.
- ...and much more!

Report an issue (bug & suggestions): https://www.wowace.com/projects/elephant/issues
this is a general addon issue under vista, move your WoW folder out of C:\Program Files\ and it'll be fixed.
Is there some sort of issue with WoW Logs and Vista?
For some reason I don't get any logs saved (and yes the buttons are checked) when I run WoW on a Vista machine.
It works fine on my XP-Pro machine so I'm strongly tempted to lay the blame at Vista's feet.
Either way I'd like to know if you're aware of a fix?
TY
then I kindly ask you to add the button back. :)
I didn't, but it musn't be a lot ;)
How big is the memory usage difference(Did you check with the new monitoring tools on the PTR)?
Actually I'd rather prefer not implement this button for memory-using concerns. But I'll do it if it is really annoying for most of the users of ChatLog.
there are people who do not use titan OR fubar because they don't like them.
It can't be too hard to give us users a choice about what we want to use to call up chatlog, now can it be? ;P
for some reason the minimap button [not the chatlog button] disappeared. how do i bring it back?
Hehe nice to here that you love the little button I made in v2.2 ;)
The thing is that now ChatLog uses the FuBar, and thus has a proper icon on the FuBar that you just have to click to toggle ChatLog. I would suggest that you try FuBar (muuuuch more better than TitanBar imo) and to give me some feedback.
I'll then see if it is better to put the button back or to keep everything as it is at the moment :p
do you mean the button on the text-panel? I really miss that too
How can get the combat log ingame? I want wo post the combat log with copy & paste to other windows like raid ect.
Can i do this with chatlog?
thx for help
Could you add the old button back in as an option? I really loved it and I'd like to update to 2.3 but the lack of the Button really makes me want to stick with 2.2 although I like the lootlog a lot.
for me personal filter for whispers would be enough,at least on my realm i got about 5 gold-whisps per hour and I just hate it to have them in the log. Of course the best way would be to create kind of interface for every channel, but as long as noone requests it^^
Filters could be added, yes :p But it is not so simple.
Should filters: - be binded only to one chat or to all chats? - should be able to manage regex? - which interface should be used to manage them?
It is not my priority at the moment, mainly because I don't think it is the purpose of ChatLog: the AddOn is written to log everything precisely :p
I am first going to add the combat log to ChatLog. Just this will take enough of my time during the next few weeks ;)
plzzzzzzzz could you add a kind of filter where you can config which messages shouldn't be stores ? sth like "buy a www.fmoiff.yx for just 93480yxc" just sth like "messages with hist: yx in it won't be stored
Nope :p
@ HereInPlainSight: No, it is impossible to change this, I have explained this issue a few times in my older posts, you should try to see there why ;)
@ Moonchilddk: The file will be saved only when you logout, I can't change anything to this. You can "force" the file to be update by typing /reloadui, but it is only a workaround :p
Cool mod... Does this have a Find function ?
I'm not completely sure what the issue is, but for some reason, no matter what I do, I can't stop logging all channels into the WoWCombatLog.txt. :/ It's really kind of an issue, since I use FlagRSP, and xtensiontooltip2 gets... Well... Really, really spammy... :/ I've been using ChatLog for the past few months, and it's always seemed to have the problem. And because of this channel, my log file is up to 81 megs... :/ I'd like to be able to comb through it, sometimes, for conversations, but with the way flagRSP works, and this being in the log, it becomes rather unwieldy to do so. Is there something I'm missing? It's always seemed bugged to me, and the person whom I was recommended the program by says she has the same problem.
Any help is greatly appreciated. I really love the idea behind the add-on, just this one issue, and to a lesser extent, the logging of things not wanted to the combat log file, as well, are my two issues with it.
Again, thank you in advance. :)
Hey pb_ee1! Great work.
I just have a single request for a function. Would it be possible to make an "save log to file" function, so it can update the text file without having to log out of the game? Or would it be possible to make the txt file update in real time?
If its just me that are a n00b and dont know this have allready been implemented, please correct me :D
Much respect Moonchild
@ Picachu: The icon can be moved or dragged, just click-drag the icon with your left button ;)
I am sorry, but the development of the AddOn has been *really* slowed down these weeks, mainly because I have a *huge* load of work :p
I am going to see if there is a nice way to log the chat, but I cannot guarantee that it will be like SimpleCombatLog. It will maybe only log the "normal" combat log ;)
