Elephant
"Shoot... what did he say again? I just got disconnected."
"Didn't that folk already loot that rare item 10 minutes ago?"
"I really wish I could remember the name of the item linked on the guild chat yesterday at 9:00 PM."
...
Already been in one of these situations? Don't be annoyed anymore, here is the solution!
Solution to chat loss annoyance
Elephant logs the chat for you in the background even when you get disconnected. It saves the WHISPER & BATTLE.NET, RAID, INSTANCE & BATTLEGROUND, PARTY, GUILD, SAY, YELL and OFFICER chats separately, but also all general chats (General, Trade, LocalDefense, ...), custom chats you are currently on, achievements, loots and finally system messages (auctions, rolls, server going down, ...). You can easily go through all these logs, thanks to a straightforward interface displaying all the access buttons on the right side of the main window. You can access the options of the addon by typing /elephant and also bind a key to pop up the addon.
Elephant gives you the ability to copy up to 100,000 (yes, 100k) characters of logs to another application. A BBCode feature is even included, letting you copy/paste a chat with colors and links to an item database in a very quick and simple way to your favorite forum.
This is THE addon that you should install if you want to never forget what somebody told you in game. Be a pro of managing hell tells, go peacefully AFK for a few minutes, or be an awesome role player. Elephant is also perfectly designed for Guild Leaders, Officers and Raid Leaders particularly because it restores the chats after you've been disconnected.
Main features
- Logs the chats in the background, with a limit of 10,000 lines for each chat (Blizzard's default is 161 lines for everything).
- Saves the logs when you log out or get disconnected.
- Display the chats with timestamps, or using your Prat settings if you have it installed.
- Copy the chat and paste it in other applications (BBCode supported!), up to 100,000 characters.
- Save the chat and combat log in two different files on your computer (using the default Blizzard logging system).
Other features
- Use filters to avoid logging some of the custom channels you join.
- Enable/disable logging for each chat separately.
- Item links in logs are displayed in their proper color and are clickable.
- Player names in the main window are clickable.
- ...and much more!

File updated, you should now be able to download it correctly ;)
any reason theres no mirror to download at all >.
Two new releases for the incoming patch & BC ;)
They are still in Beta because the Libs are not fully updated at the moment. I will put it in release when I will be absolutely sure that the Libs are updated for the next patch/BC.
I changed line 611 to: chatlogFrameMenuButton:SetPoint("TOP", ChatFrame1BottomButton, "BOTTOM") this way it saves a bit of space
Sorry!!!
You're absolutly right! I got the correct version, but installed it to the wrong location - so the older version was still used.

Hello Stormbringer,
At line 1081 in the ChatLog.lua file, there is absolutely no code, it is a blank line. A blank line cannot produce this error. I suppose you are using an older version than v2.0.3.
Coud you check again and see if you still have this error? ;) Thanks!
Hi,
a couple of minutes ago I got this message: Interface\AddOns\ChatLog\ChatLog.lua: 1081: attemp to index '?' (a nil value) with version 2.0.3 (downloaded & installed it yesterday) using still an german client ;).
Have a nice day
hmm i dont have those options checked and never had, is the chat logged anyway or should it only be logged in this file if i have those options checked? and if it is checked will this file grow bigger and bigger? and is it possible to delete it from time to time?
@ dan: Yes and no. Yes, because ChatLog lets the user to save all the chats in this file (combat chat is logged into WoWCombatLog.txt). No because I am using a Blizzard function that is impossible to custom, and thus, I can't limit the size of the file to 1MB for example (please check the "THIS ONLY CONCERNS LOGGING TO FILES" part of the Changelogs).
You can disable this logging by unchecking the checkbox at the top right corner of the main frame though.
while checking some logs i found a file... c:\..\World of Warcraft\Logs\WoWChatLog.txt which is 161mb !! has this file something to do with your addon?
I live in So Calif and play on a american server west coast game time. All english. I will try the new version and let you know.
Thank you
@ Crazytoo: this should only happen on non-english clients. Could you confirm you are not playing an an enUS client?
(A fix will be release tonight or tomorrow)
I keep getting a error no matter what Im doing. Using ver 2.0.2. chatlog\chatlog.lua: 1081: attemp to index '?' (a nil value) Would be great to see a fix as I would hate to lose this mod.
Thank You
@ TehFreek: v2.0+ should be compatible with TBC. You just have to change the number in the TOC file from 11200 to 20000 (line 1).
Any chance of a beta version? I'd be glad to test if you don't have beta access.
EDIT: Never mind, I'm blind.
I have found finally found the bug that a few users have. The "attempt to index field `?' (a nil value)" at line 1125 will be corrected in the next release. This error only happens on non-english clients, and comes from a bad channel name checking. ;)
@ wolftankk: I've seen this on the SVN. Thanks, thanks again! ;)
@ Kothoga: Just go in World of Warcraft \ Logs \ WoWChatLog.txt
@ Clavicle: Yes, there is.
I add Chinese Big5 (zhTW) local.
How can you do so you can read this in a simple text file when you aren't playing WoW?
Like a notepad document or a word document
Is there any plans to add Battleground channel to this?
