Seriously. If you truly did get hacked, it wasnt because of this.

Unless the other 2,612,577 people also got hacked and failed to mention it.

Kick ass response time Kagaro. However, your statement begs a question. I don't trust anything made by blizzard and while I am not a c0d3r per say, doesn't the javascripe call wowdb? You have the following line in the dbgen.rb.txt...

response = Net::HTTP.get(URI.parse("http://www.wowdb.com/object.aspx?id=#{id}"))

I see [commented out at the top of the file dbgen.rb.txt] the address and format, presumably to replace by preference, the existing http:// address above in the response line?

I believe the author is trying to say this: The addon's data is automatically gathered from Wowhead. The addon cannot (and knowing Blizzard, never will be able to) access the internet from inside the game. That text file you're referencing seems to me like a Ruby on Rails (RoR) file that is used to scan WoWHead and get the data and put it into a format that the addon can use. The text file itself is not part of the addon, and isn't even loaded by WoW's game engine.

I understand that you might be untrustworthy of what some programmers may try to accomplish, however, rest assured ALL addons are safe to use. If Blizzard ever wishes to ban an addon, they have methods for disabling them for all players automatically. Also, no addons are capable of accessing the internet or running anything outside of the WoW game engine.

My suggestion: Stop wasting your time reading the source code to addons and actually enjoy the game :)

I would also like to point out that it is currently impossible for addons to 'steal your password' as well. Since addons run inside the game engine, they're not running while you're logging in, and they stop as soon as the game engine stops (when you go back to your character screen or exit the game).

Blizzard has the faith of millions of players relying on their security. They're not going to make a mistake this late in the game in regards to how plugins work; rest assured they have thought of everything.

If you never trust anything made by blizzard then why you playin their game(s)? Delete all the blizzard games you have since you dont trust them, that way you dont have to worry about trusting them ever. Oh wait, you must trust them, you have account information that is secured by them. WHAT WAS I THINKING?! YOU DO TRUST THEM!

That script yoru referring to doesnt load into wow. its run externally once a week to scrape the data form wowhead and create the addon data files.

OK... after some WTF time I figured this out.

GatherMate_Data-v2.02 (listed as 28.4 KiB @ wowace repository)
GatherMate_Data-v2.01 (listed as 200.6 KiB @ wowace repository)

If your doing a fresh install the v2.02 data will only add GAS CLOUDS and FISHING. The only data posessed by the v2.02 database dump pertains to GAS CLOUDS and FISHING. The v2.01 (a much larger file) contains all the MINING and HERBALISM data. So just download BOTH the v2.02 package and the V2.01 package in order to add all other professions collected data.

Be sure you Merge your database when importing!

2.02 ran last night, but wowhead had changed some javascript around. 2.03 has corrected this issue. Sorry for those few of you that got the 2.02 before i fixed it. The data parser runs via automated scripts and when i got coffee this morning I noticed the issue, fixed it and regenerated this morning.

Judging by the other posts I know I will be flamed/put down for saying this BUT I like other have experienced something odd.

Last thrusday night I came home decided to play wow, it was the only thing I did on my PC that entire day, I use the curse client for ease of DLing things and the icon was displayed meaning addon up date. It was for Gathermate and SexyMap. I updated both logged into wow played for 2 hours maybe less. Logged out and went to sleep. Woke up in the morning around 8am and a email was sitting on my cell phone saying my password had been reset. I get the usual blizz scam emails but know better I have been playing since release. My account was 'hacked' all characters/items/gbank/55k gold all gone.

This is also my first time EVER posting on curse but I thought I should after seeing the history of these posts. I've been using sexymap a long time and gathermate very recently. I updated these 2 mods logged in the game. Did absolutely nothing elses besides that, not even start up the internet browser. 9 hours later, my account is suspended for exploiting/gold trading/something about spamming chat.

Been shaking my head hard at wondering how my info could have been stolen etc. But I only use curse client for addons, mmo-champ.com for wow info. And nothing else at all. I rarely download anything. And no I've never shared my account or PW. No one even knows I play. Never any prolems until this. But the only thing I did thursday besides wow.exe was update the two mods like mentioned.

Only reason I checked out the page here on curse was because Curseclient said there was more update for me. Gathermate was the only needing an update - So that made me think...

Anyways I just find it odd is all there are more than a few posts pointing fingures....

Also like to say yes i know addons are supposed to safe thru curse etc no exe. ~Save it. It's WHY i use curse.

Happened the same to me, installed pallypower and gathermate with gathermate_data, logged off and received an e-mail saying I was trying to log with different IP's.. a day after that, my account was hacked.

I've been playing for two years with the same addons, updating them and its never happened to me. So this had a keylogger or something when updating I'm certain it was not pallypower because I installed it a day before I started having issues.

I'm not trusting curse.com download manager again.

i have the same issue any one know when this will be fixed? eversong is mt fav place for copper so yea i know where most are but it make it so much better with the icons
