HandyNotes
Handy Notes for your maps. This addon is intended to be a small and simple framework for showing notes on your map.
Use /handynotes to access options.
You can add notes to the maps in 3 ways:
- Alt-RightClick on the world map to add a note.
- Use "/hnnew" without the quotes to add a note at your current location.
- Use "/hnnew x,y" without the quotes to add a note at location x,y on your current zone's map.
HandyNotes supports plugins that other authors can write to display their own set of notes on the map. See this link for a list of such addons: https://www.curseforge.com/wow/search?search=handynotes
Is there any way to disable the arrow on the screen pointing to the treasures without disabling the map and minimap icons? I just want to turn the arrow off but still want to see the treasures on my maps.
HN is not remembering my settings EG; icon visibility and size.
I tried setting a custom note in the Druid hall for the artifact table, but after I enter the name and hit OK, it puts the icon somewhere else in the zone. I didn't have this problem in one of the main zones. FYI.
EDIT: Nevermind, it's doing it in a main Legion zone too. I use Mapster, so I'm not sure if that's part of the issue.
Thanks.
Anyone know where the treasure is between Val'sharah and suramar it says Need a Quest line to open the door that leads to it but the icon is in Val'sharah map but seems like it is in Suramar? i'm not sure :\
HandyNotes has been crippling my UI. Periodically, it makes my world map bug out, showing a small corner in the top left, black everywhere else, and unrecoverable/unusable until i /reload.
This happens randomly after 5-10 minutes of play. Disable HandyNotes, problem goes away.
As someone else has already mentioned, I too am not able to add new notes. I've alt-R clicked, type /hnnew, nothing, not even any lua errors. I've checked and double checked that I have no other addons running that add any mouse contextual input (ie, alt+r clicking) (Such as TomTom).*
It turns out that the issue is, this feature isn't working if Mapster is also enabled. I disabled Mapster, reloaded ui, then was able to alt+r click. The 'Add Handy Note' window popped up underneath the default world map but I was able to move the map off of it (moveanything) and ultimately create the note. I was NOT however able to create the note use /hnnew with or without coords.
Is there any way to get this to work with Mapster and/or at least a way to change the (alpha?) of the "Add Handy Note" window to display "ontop" of the default blizzard world map?
Thank you for your time and effort!!!
*edit: Two posts copy/pasted into one, fixed*
*edit #2, included the part about Mapster & whatnot*
Is there a Legion version of this? It doesn't seem to show any elites or treasures in Azura at least.
maybe a way to quickly disable handynotes instead of click disable?
What you want is HandyNotes_WorldMapButton.
Thank you for this link! Exactly the addition i needed for handynotes :D
Ty 100 times :)
My husband had really bad lag issues with the pre-expansion, so dropped all his addons. He's been putting them back one at a time slowly - adding Handy Notes completely made his game unplayable during combat. No other changes to his settings this week other than Handy Notes (plus DraenorTreasures)...Thoughts?
Is there a way to create a note via chat for the zone you aren't in?
Neither "/hnnew" nor "/hnnew x,y" commands work. No error, no nothing.
Also, please add an option to change scale of minimap and world map icons separately and/or to hide minimap icons of my or plugin notes completely. It drives me nuts when the Handynotes icons cover the actual in-game icons of mobs and you can't tell if a mob is there or not.

I think someone has mentioned this before, but the current build 1.4.8 resets the professions NPCs so that you have to tick all the filters each time you talk to them.
Other than that, no problems. Great mod.
This is a great addon. I like that we can add the notes in multiple ways.
I'd like to make a request. Can you add a minimap icon so that we can quickly toggle the icons on/off as we're flying about? The Handynotes icons obscure the default star icon for a rare. I know that there are size/opacity options for the Handynotes icons, but having them be set for maximum visibility is ideal while also being able to see the star.
Ty for your consideration.
I would love to be able to quickly toggle my handynotes, ESPECIALLY on the world map (maybe from the spyglass dropdown?) as someone who uses treasure/rare mobs additions for handynotes, the clutter can basically block half of the map... trying to find party members? GL! :P
Workaround: HandyNotes_WorldMapButton.
Works for minimap when you toggle it off.
