HandyNotes
Handy Notes for your maps. This addon is intended to be a small and simple framework for showing notes on your map.
Use /handynotes to access options.
You can add notes to the maps in 3 ways:
- Alt-RightClick on the world map to add a note.
- Use "/hnnew" without the quotes to add a note at your current location.
- Use "/hnnew x,y" without the quotes to add a note at location x,y on your current zone's map.
HandyNotes supports plugins that other authors can write to display their own set of notes on the map. See this link for a list of such addons: https://www.curseforge.com/wow/search?search=handynotes
Recently I have had to stop using HandyNotes due to a huge performance hit when enabled. Every few seconds Wow will freeze and my FPS will drop from 59/60 to 7. This issue happens with only the core add-on enabled. I have tried reinstalling HandyNotes after deleting all corresponding files with no resolution. Has anyone else experienced this issue?
I've been experiencing the same performance issue, got really worried but when I disabled HandyNotes everything returned to normal.
Does anyone know if there is a plugin or way to show these notes on OmegaMap? OmegaMap has the ability to show MapNotes notes, but that addon is pretty outdated (2012) and gives me several errors.
This is a great addon but it has been outdated for too long now. I'm having problems with it, the notes I make in a continent or zone stay on screen after zooming out to any other map area or continent. Basically a mess.
I just installed this addon a few minutes ago, but I don't have any issue where the notes appear when I zoom out or view a different zone. Perhaps you have another addon that is conflicting. The map mods that I use are: HandyNotes (this addon), Explorer Coords (shows points to unlock map areas), MozzFullWorldMap (uncovers unexplored areas), OmegaMap (map replacer?), TomTom (waypoints).
Got a couple of errors.

Can we have in a future update a way to add custom icons? like reading .tga files from a custom folder within the Interface one? Chinchilla map addon does something like this with the mini map blips. This would be really great cause I use to explore A LOT the whole game maps and having a wider set of icons to choose from would make my map more detailed about my findings.
Thanks in advance. Link.

I would absolutely love to be able to customize icons or at least have some more additions to the standard set. I also have been noticing this feeling "old" and slowing things down a bit lately. I really find this addon so useful, I hope it continues to be effective. Thank you! :)
In Full Map, Alt+RightClick does not create a new note, it just zooms the map out.
A small suggestion for a future version: I think it would be a good idea to add a small "help" function, showing the commands available. (Alt+Rightclick, "/hnnew" and "/hnnew x,y".) Or else add a description of the commands to the current Handynotes config screen. I recently started using Handynotes, and I keep having to alt-tab out of WoW and do a websearch so I can remember the commands - not very convenient!
Other than that I find it very useful, and I like the fact that other people can write their own list of notes and upload them for people to use. Much better than trying to copy and paste loads of text, as happens with Tom-tom.
Okay, so the Description tab tells me how to create notes and associate them with map locations.
It does not say even one thing as to how to access any note(s) after they are created. It is reasonable to assume that the Map must be displayed to access any note(s). However, if a PC must be at the location in order to read a corresponding note(s), then that severely limits the utility of the add-on.
Is there a way to review the entire set of notes, or to search all of those that have been made? I don't necessarily associate (1) numeric coordinates with (2) textual or graphic content in my own mind -- what I remember are the names of locations ("Mistfall Village"), or the names of NPCs ("Master Cheng"), or sometimes the names of quests. We give people, places, and things names so that we can remember them. "12:25" is not a name.
Can a note be edited? Can a note be deleted?

Hello,
I'd like to know how can I load my profiles from one account/pc to the other, I copy/pasted HandyNotes folder to the other pc but file with profiles is not there, I guess?
Thank you in advance.
If you want to transfer the notes that you have made to another installation of the WoW game software, or to another account in the same WoW game folder, then you must copy each file that has "Handy Notes" in the name, from the Saved Variables folders that are in the WTF folder, which is in the World of Warcraft folder (where the game software is installed).
For example, on my computer, the Handy Notes data is stored in the following file:
D:\Program Files (x86)\World of Warcraft\WTF\Account\account_number\realm_name\Saved Variables\HandyNotes.lua
The account_number is a string of digits and symbols that is shown on your computer as the name of a folder in that path. The realm_name folder has the same name as the realm (server) in which your Player Character is located in the game.
Does this addon contain pre-written notes, or is it for writing your own notes? Or both? Hard to tell from the description what it is that this addon is for, unless you are familiar with Cartographer_Notes (and I am not).
thx so much for updating! <3
You can find the latest version (r230) released on 06/05/2013 that is updated for WoW 5.3.0 at:
http://www.wowace.com/addons/handynotes/files/121-r230/
It's working with Handy Notes Vendor at the moment and now I'm going to try it with some other Handy Notes Addons and see if it works with them or if the other addons have bugs or not. If I remember I will post my findings here.
@Xinhuan Please post the latest version here so that I can use the Curse client and don't have to manually install and update your releases! Thank you for this awesome addon!
Peace to all!
Is this addon still supported? I can not find any other that comes close to this one. Please advise
