HudMap
HudMap is still beta!
I'd love for people to start using it, chewing on it, trying it out. Tell me what you like, what you don't, what breaks, and what you'd like to see. Bugs are to be expected, though it's fairly stable at this point. There are a lot of directions that the mod could go, and I'd love feedback.
Additionally, if you play WoW in a non-English language, you're invited to help by localizing HudMap into your client's language. We need translators!
What is it?
HudMap is an addon that provides a true heads-up tactical display of an encounter, with raid member positions, range data, debuff area-of-effect indicators, and more.
Additionally, HudMap ships with totem radius indicators. In general, if you want to do range or player-to-player directional stuff, HudMap's your huckleberry.
FAQ
How do I toggle the HUD?
Left-click the LibDataBroker icon, or set a key binding in the HudMap options to toggle the map on and off.
Can I move or resize the HUD?
Absolutely. Right-click on the LibDataBroker icon, or go to Interface Options -> AddOns -> HudMap -> Adaptive Zoom -> Set Area. This will let you define the location and size of the map.
Can I turn [specific feature] off?
Yes! HudMap is very flexible. Though it comes with some functionality turned on, there are lots of options and you can tweak it to your preferences to show as much or as little as you'd like.
How do I request a new feature?
Just create a feature request ticket. That's the best way to ask for new functionality!
Can I use this in to replace AVRe? Possibly. You can use it in a similar manner, though it definitely takes a very different approach to information display. HudMap is designed to give you proximity awareness of your partymates and areas that are potentially hazardous due to proximity or some other effect that boss mods generally warn you about. In that sense, yes, it's a replacement.
However, HudMap is not going to let you annotate the world, add additional data over physical locations, or let you draw obscene pictures on Arthas before you pull him. HudMap does nothing to emulate or project 3D data, and never will. Additionally, feature parity is not a goal of the project - some information is better presented in AVR than it will ever be in HudMap, and I'm not going to try to replicate that. Other data will fit HudMap better naturally, and those pieces will be actively pursued.
Is this addon going to get banned because Blizzard doesn't like AVR?
To head off the inevitable, I've already asked Blizzard directly if this is kosher in light of the AVR breakage. They have not indicated that it is a violation of the rules. Until they indicate otherwise, HudMap will be developed and updated. The impression I get is that Blizzard's primary complaint was with AVR's ability to draw pseudo-3D images over the game world, which is outside of the scope of what the UI was intended to be able to do. HudMap doesn't do any of that.
Extending HudMap
Have an idea for a range feature? It's easy to implement one. Just see modules\example.lua for a simple framework upon which you can build your own modules.
Latest commit should have that all fixed up.
Regarding what Aazed said:
The party/raid player indicators are not persisting at all. they appear for about 10s at random times.. then goes away again.
Tell me if you need more info.
What I see:
I do not see any other thing, nor the party dots or role icons.
The latest beta version works great outside ICC, though I'm unable to say if it does against other bosses (the beta-1.1 worked great the other night on Princes/Blood Queen/Putricide, but I haven't tested Sindra then). I should be able to tell you more if I raid ICC 10 HC tonight.
Edit: does not work at all inside ICC
Edit2: went back to 1.1, works without a glitch
Sounds like a bug. I'll see if I can hammer it out.
I'm using the latest version and I don't see any party dot during Sindragosa 25 (non HC). I do see Sindra's AoE circle however. Is it intended or a bug? Should I downgrade?
Edit: during our latest try, the dots appeared when the ice block triggered in Phase 3, then quickly disappeared again.
Don't be sorry! It's just a bug. It's awesome you fixed it so fast! Just tested it, and so far, so good. Great job! Lovin' it. Keep up the great work!
Just pushed a fix for that, MaddestMax. Sorry!
I've really been enjoying testing this addon. So I thought I should mention, one of the last updates broke my map. Every time I zoomed out a level, it would slide right back to my current zone. Removing the addon fixed it instantly. Hoping this gets fixed. Keep up the good work.
Thanks for the report. I'll be sure to extend the timer a bit.
For the Bloodqueen encounter... the circles are being removed too soon. Just a few seconds prior to her landing. There's actually 1 more volley of shadowbursts, after the circles are gone.
Tonight something occurred and it may be a hudmap bug but I'm not sure.
I was a few seconds after LK25 HM pull and a big "thing" appeared. Result : OMFG wtf is happening? print screen then wipe ^^
Here is the print screen :

On the latest comment, I have to add that it does not recognize a Resto Shaman and shows it as DPS until it casts a heal.
Everything is working great though.
@dfchad1020 Yeah, the change in size is because of the adaptive zoom. That lets HudMap change the zoom level dynamically to keep all objects inside the "interest radius" in view. You can toggle to manual zoom in the options, or change the interest radius if so interested.
@Alcotraz It should work just fine in 3.3.5, provided Blizzard doesn't break anything else between now and its release.
@Gaster2 Thanks, that's useful info! There are some bugs in the role detection still. It should detect prot paladins by a Holy Shield cast, and retribution paladins by a Crusader Strike cast. The fact that it's toggling tells me there's definitely something wrong there. I'll see if I can figure out what's going on there.
I noticed a problem with little icons displayed. In a raid, sometimes the role (tank/healer/dps) automatically detected is wrong.
Here is an example :
10 man raid, 3 paladins (1ret+1holy+1protec). hudmap displayed the retribution paladin as a third tank instead of a simple dps.
Another similar problem that occurred with droods : occasionally droods have a round dot instead of a little star/cross/shield.
In those two cases, the size and color of the dot is right the problem is just the icon. The problem may be because of automatic detection on spec.
PS : These issues happened with the beta-1 version. I'll check in the latest version if it still occurs.
EDIT : In fact I've spotted the same problem with a retribution paladin levelling. I'm using the beta-1.1-1-gb68ece2 version. His icon is displayed by a shield as a tank (but he is dps) and when he dps a mob, it automatically switch to a little star (dps) and back again as a shield, etc, each few seconds.
Here are 2 print screen to highlight this :

Use the PTRs, you'll probably have to make sure Load Out of Date Addons is enabled though.
Looks pretty cool. will have to see if it still functions after 3.3.5
testing it out last night when I went away from my totem just to the outside edge and turn the circle get's HUGE move back in and it went back to normal this because of the auto zoom ? and the arrow keeps doing a random 180 other than that works like a charm!
Unfortunately, there are no coordinates in arenas, so hudmap its of no use there.
I believe this addon may have a use outside of raiding and in Arena PVP. Would be useful to see who has effects such as: Snares Cyclone Fear etc etc.
Heck, you might be able to highlight who is being focused.
