NameplateRange
Nameplates will only show within 40 yards (down from 60)
(Enable Always Show Nameplates if you want to see nameplates while not in combat)
Stops nameplates from clamping to the screen
edit: since patch 7.1 only the targeted nameplate clamps by default, so this change has been reverted
You don't need to use this addon, it's basically this script
(The nameplate cvars are character-specific, this addon makes it easier to run on all characters)
/run SetCVar("nameplateMaxDistance", 40)
Note: If you stop using this addon the cvars will still stay the same, but you can change them back
FYI, the /run SetCVar("nameplateMaxDistance", 40) command no longer works, and as far as I can tell there's no longer a way to change the max distance from 60.
In reply to franic419:
Yeah, I reported it as a bug https://github.com/Stanzilla/WoWUIBugs/issues/46
My target does not clamp anymore, so i cannot track the debuffs nor the boss health... i tried all the codes they wrote in here, and nothing...=/
what should i do ?
My problem was that all enemy nameplates were on top of each other so I couldn't seperately click. "Stacking/overlapping" options in interface didn't fix that. Now I tried this script which actually fixed the overlapping but it also prevented my target nameplate from clamping at the top of my screen. I need both distinguishable nameplates to tag and raid boss' nameplate to clamp on my screen when it's out of my camera angle. So how can I do this? I've seen many videos in which this was not a problem. I used both Kui and Tidy Plates, it's not related to them I guess. Please help me.
Ever since patch 7.1 only the targeted nameplate clamps by default. This way Blizzard solved the problem with the bunch of overlapping nameplates to the top of the screen
So I will update this addon back to the default functionality in order to make just the target nameplate clamp to the top of the screen again. Sorry for the late response and I'm interested in any feedback
Hey, the new version doesn't work at all for me. I still get all the nameplates overlapping on each other and being terrible. I've gone back to the previous version of your addon (which had the overlap cvars changed) and it works fine again.
Apparently in patch 7.1 it was changed for only the target nameplate to be clamped to the top of the screen, instead of all visible nameplates
So by default nameplates don't clamp anymore, and this addon/cvar now only affects the targeted unit
Hi do you know if it works with tidy plates?
It should work with Tidy Plates, I tested it and untargeted nameplates were not clamping to the top, but this is default behavior now

Great addon!
But I have not found how to set up a strip of your own health! Adjust the intensity of the runes, mana, energy! But health bar and was very thin! Help me please!
Great, I was going insane
Why on earth did they change this? It's so bad I don't even know, unless it's for WoW going to console or something for TV overscan.
Hey Keth,
I'm using the /run script, it's great, thank you so much.
But I noticed that plates will still clamp a little bit when entering/leaving from the left hand side of my screen. But not the right side for some reason..
Any ideas?
Never noticed if they could clamp to the left side of the screen
I don't see any cvars related to that, only for top and bottom...
Thank you!
AMAZING!!!!!!!
Thanks so much for this mate. The game was unplayable for me with these new changes Blizzard made.
Man, what a lifesaver this puppy is... Kesava (who writes Kui Namplates) suggested it... had no idea it existed.
BTW, ya want decent plates, Kui's for you!
I tried Plater and ElvUI, but looked into KuiNameplates now and liked how it can hide the health bars of friendly units, only showing the name (less clutter)
And I have to say both KuiNameplates and ElvUI feel more stable and user friendly
(Haven't tried Tidy Plates yet, since I heard that one is still a work in progress)
But I wonder why KuiNameplates can't simply add a slider or toggle for the nameplate distance/clamping? :)
