Omen Threat Meter
Omen
Omen is a threat meter.
Basically, enemies in WoW decide who to attack by deciding who is the most threatening based on the abilities you use. What Omen does is provide accurate values of your group's relative threat level on individual enemies, so that you can see when you're in danger of pulling aggro (or, if you're next on the snack list if your tank bites it). This info is usually only critical in raids, where only tanks can survive aggro, but it's useful for any multi-player situation.
Changes from version v3.1.6 to v3.1.7
- Add option to choose what sound channel to play warnings on, default is SFX (thanks tharai).
- Add fixes for MoP patch 5.0.4 (thanks dridzt).
- Removed compatibility code for older versions of WoW. This version now only runs in MoP.
FAQ
How is Omen3 different from Omen2?
Omen3 relies completely on the Blizzard threat API and threat events. It does not attempt to calculate or extrapolate threat unlike Omen2 except when Tricks, Misdirection, Mirror Image, Fade and glyphed Hand of Salvation are active.
Omen2 used what we called the Threat-2.0 library. This library was responsible for monitoring the combat log, spellcasting, buffs, debuffs, stances, talents and gear modifiers for calculating each individuals threat. Threat was calculated based on what was known or approximated from observed behaviors. Many abilities such as knockbacks were just assumed (to be a 50% threat reduction) as they were mostly impossible to confirm.
The Threat-2.0 library also included addon communication to broadcast your threat to the rest of the raid as long as they were also using Threat-2.0. This data was then used to provide a raid wide display of threat information.
Since patch 3.0.2, Omen no longer does any of these things and the need for a threat library is no longer necessary. Omen3 uses Blizzard's new in-built threat monitor to obtain exact values of every members threat. This means Omen3 has no need for synchronisation of data, combat log parsing or guessing, resulting in a significant increase in performance with regards to network traffic, CPU time and memory used. The implementation of boss modules for specific threat events (such as Nightbane wiping threat on landing) are also no longer necessary.
Further benefits of this new implementation include the addition of NPC threat on a mob (eg, Human Kalecgos). However, there are some drawbacks; frequency of updates are much slower, threat details cannot be obtained unless somebody in your party/raid are targetting the mob and it is also not possible to obtain threat from a mob you are not in direct combat with.
How do I get rid of the 2 vertical gray lines down the middle?
Lock your Omen. Locking Omen will prevent it from being moved or resized, as well as prevent the columns from being resized. If you haven't realized it, the 2 vertical gray lines are column resizing handles.
How do I make Omen3 look like Omen2?
Change both the Background Texture and Border Texture to Blizzard Tooltip, change the Background Color to black (by dragging the luminance bar to the bottom), and the Border Color to blue.
Why does no threat data show on a mob when I target it even though it is in combat?
The Blizzard threat API does not return threat data on any mob you are not in direct combat with. We suspect this is an effort on Blizzard's part to save network traffic.
Is there ANY way around this Blizzard limitation? Not being able to see my pet's threat before I attack has set me back to guessing.
There is no way around this limitation short of us doing the guessing for you (which is exactly how Omen2 did it).
The goal of Omen3 is to provide accurate threat data, we no longer intend to guess for you and in the process lower your FPS. Have some confidence in your pet/tank, or just wait 2 seconds before attacking and use a low damage spell such as Ice Lance so that you can get initial threat readings.
Can we get AoE mode back?
Again, this is not really possible without guessing threat values. Blizzard's threat API only allows us to query for threat data on units that somebody in the raid is targeting. This means that if there are 20 mobs and only 6 of them are targeted by the raid, there is no way to obtain accurate threat data on the other 14.
This is also extremely complicated to guess particularly for healing and buffing (threat gets divided by the number of mobs you are in combat with) because mobs that are under crowd control effects (sheep, banish, sap, etc) do not have their threat table modified and addons cannot reliably tell how many mobs you are in combat with. Omen2's guess was almost always wrong.
The tooltips on unit mouseover shows a threat % that does not match the threat % reported by Omen3. Why?
Blizzard's threat percentage is scaled to between 0% and 100%, so that you will always pull aggro at 100%. Omen reports the raw unscaled values which has pulling aggro percentages at 110% while in melee range and 130% otherwise.
By universal agreement, the primary target of a mob is called the tank and is defined to be at 100% threat.
The threat updates are slow...
Omen3 updates the threat values you see as often as Blizzard updates the threat values to us.
In fact, Blizzard updates them about once per second, which is much faster than what Omen2 used to sync updates. In Omen2, you only transmitted your threat to the rest of the raid once every 3 seconds (or 1.5s if you were a tank).
Where can I report bugs or give suggestions?

I wonder if anyone can help, i am having to turn this add-on off when soloing as i keep gettign the alert sounds and all (even when these are set to not) when passing the threshhold with my pet.
Good mod when grouped, but bloody bad when solo.
Try unchecking "Active with pet" in the options.
You could just turn it off in the addon screen before you log in. Thats what I do but then again I mostly solo it.
I have the following problem with Omen. This started with patch 2.3.
The aggro seems to "jump" so that one moment I am where I would expect to be aggrowise and the next moment I am very low on threat (or all others are really high). The 90% threat alert seems to work disregarding this however...?
When I play my main (mage) on raids I am consistenly way below the "real" threat.
When I play my low lvl Lock the same problem occurs with my aggro and the Voidvalkers aggro. I am way below the “real†threat – but again sometimes the threatbars jump back to normal.
Today playing Zul Aman with my mage I had both KTM and Omen running at the same time. KTM was in the right range and again omen was way off.
Any help here would be really appreciated.
And thx for a great addon - Omen - hope I can have it back in shape really soon.
Just wanted to note that the latest version of AuraMap, 2.2.5, fixes the incompatibility problem mentioned in the description above. Apologies again for that, Antiarc!
for sum reason i cant see the omen thingy on my mini map =\
any1 help?
from what i understand it isn't omen that is out of date it it the threat-1.0 library that is i assume that it is updated be a differant person
if you want the up to date version of it download it from wowace
Thx for the info hon, did the dl as you suggested. Now wondering why Threat-1.0 is not here on Curse. :)
Threat-1.0 is bundled with Omen, so there's not really any need for it to be published here.
I generally only post major fixes or upgrades here; there are little fixes or boss mods and the like constantly being made available on files.wowace.com. If Omen says you're out of date, that's the best place to check.
Why am I being messaged that there is an update for Omen when I cannot locate a more recent file than the one I downloaded around 60 hours ago? The update message has come up again tonight, and was there last night too. The update information is showing as 55457. Any suggestions on what to do appreciated. :)
Update from files.wowace.com. The translators are always busy translating the files, but one side effect of that is that it bumps the revision number, so you see new version alerts at times. Major releases will be made here, but small fixes are always available at wowace.
I cant seem to get omen to stay 'current' on my screen. I have all of the mods I should need installed but I can only see threat bars when I click on show test bars and then they are static bars. I do have a few different mods running at once but no less then the next guy.
I've tried using Omen for a few days instead of KTM while it wasn't updated for 2.3. On some fights threat updates lag quite bad for our Omen users (Shahraz for example, causing false aggro warnings if MT is an omen user) while at the same time my KTM always worked fine and never ever lagged threat updates. Correct me if i'm wrong, but if KTM sends it's data fine and Omen has delays it must be a problem in the Omen. Also shaman threat seems to be wrong.
Back to KTM - atleast it doesn't bug randomly, you always know what to expect. Looking forward to 2.4 when KTM will get true multi-target threat it seems.
Heelo first of all rate addon i hop ein the future all my guild will use but till then thre is a small prob that i observe i use the r55025.5
last night i was in ssc at leotheras the blind an i was observing this problems now first fight we have on it the omen was showing mine threat and only one other guild member...so there was only 2 mans appear on threat ..only the 2 of us who have omen .. then at the second tray when leotheras is doing the wirlwind the agro resets .....but my agro was never reset i was always at the top with a huge agro i was start asking raid members when i need to reset my agro cos my threat meter dosnt show the correct values. is i did something wrong pls tell me cos i really want to be able to see my threat in that fight since is very important to see the threat at each stages in that fight.

Also if you use Bongos2 and have used the skinned map mod please delete the map mod folder and reinstall the map mad folder. Don't copy paste the new bongos2 as this won't remove the skinned map files. Skinned map mod is having many issues to include with Omen.
r54897 (2.3 fixes) Updated 1 hour ago is not working
Can you elaborate on what's broken or provide an error message?
Since the 2.3 patch, I have been unable to use omen. The new tracker button on the minimap just so happens to cover the ace2 addons button entirely. I have tried several different console commands to get the options up so I may move my omen button, but without success. How can I change/reset/make visable the addon options button?
you can use MobileMiniMapButtons to fix that. lets you move all the buttons around your minimap by holding down the Ctrl key while clicking and dragging the edge of the mini button.
I'm not sure I have an answer for that just yet, since the button is handled by another library. I suspect that the various map mods will have a fix for it soon, though.
