Omen Threat Meter
Omen
Omen is a threat meter.
Basically, enemies in WoW decide who to attack by deciding who is the most threatening based on the abilities you use. What Omen does is provide accurate values of your group's relative threat level on individual enemies, so that you can see when you're in danger of pulling aggro (or, if you're next on the snack list if your tank bites it). This info is usually only critical in raids, where only tanks can survive aggro, but it's useful for any multi-player situation.
Changes from version v3.1.6 to v3.1.7
- Add option to choose what sound channel to play warnings on, default is SFX (thanks tharai).
- Add fixes for MoP patch 5.0.4 (thanks dridzt).
- Removed compatibility code for older versions of WoW. This version now only runs in MoP.
FAQ
How is Omen3 different from Omen2?
Omen3 relies completely on the Blizzard threat API and threat events. It does not attempt to calculate or extrapolate threat unlike Omen2 except when Tricks, Misdirection, Mirror Image, Fade and glyphed Hand of Salvation are active.
Omen2 used what we called the Threat-2.0 library. This library was responsible for monitoring the combat log, spellcasting, buffs, debuffs, stances, talents and gear modifiers for calculating each individuals threat. Threat was calculated based on what was known or approximated from observed behaviors. Many abilities such as knockbacks were just assumed (to be a 50% threat reduction) as they were mostly impossible to confirm.
The Threat-2.0 library also included addon communication to broadcast your threat to the rest of the raid as long as they were also using Threat-2.0. This data was then used to provide a raid wide display of threat information.
Since patch 3.0.2, Omen no longer does any of these things and the need for a threat library is no longer necessary. Omen3 uses Blizzard's new in-built threat monitor to obtain exact values of every members threat. This means Omen3 has no need for synchronisation of data, combat log parsing or guessing, resulting in a significant increase in performance with regards to network traffic, CPU time and memory used. The implementation of boss modules for specific threat events (such as Nightbane wiping threat on landing) are also no longer necessary.
Further benefits of this new implementation include the addition of NPC threat on a mob (eg, Human Kalecgos). However, there are some drawbacks; frequency of updates are much slower, threat details cannot be obtained unless somebody in your party/raid are targetting the mob and it is also not possible to obtain threat from a mob you are not in direct combat with.
How do I get rid of the 2 vertical gray lines down the middle?
Lock your Omen. Locking Omen will prevent it from being moved or resized, as well as prevent the columns from being resized. If you haven't realized it, the 2 vertical gray lines are column resizing handles.
How do I make Omen3 look like Omen2?
Change both the Background Texture and Border Texture to Blizzard Tooltip, change the Background Color to black (by dragging the luminance bar to the bottom), and the Border Color to blue.
Why does no threat data show on a mob when I target it even though it is in combat?
The Blizzard threat API does not return threat data on any mob you are not in direct combat with. We suspect this is an effort on Blizzard's part to save network traffic.
Is there ANY way around this Blizzard limitation? Not being able to see my pet's threat before I attack has set me back to guessing.
There is no way around this limitation short of us doing the guessing for you (which is exactly how Omen2 did it).
The goal of Omen3 is to provide accurate threat data, we no longer intend to guess for you and in the process lower your FPS. Have some confidence in your pet/tank, or just wait 2 seconds before attacking and use a low damage spell such as Ice Lance so that you can get initial threat readings.
Can we get AoE mode back?
Again, this is not really possible without guessing threat values. Blizzard's threat API only allows us to query for threat data on units that somebody in the raid is targeting. This means that if there are 20 mobs and only 6 of them are targeted by the raid, there is no way to obtain accurate threat data on the other 14.
This is also extremely complicated to guess particularly for healing and buffing (threat gets divided by the number of mobs you are in combat with) because mobs that are under crowd control effects (sheep, banish, sap, etc) do not have their threat table modified and addons cannot reliably tell how many mobs you are in combat with. Omen2's guess was almost always wrong.
The tooltips on unit mouseover shows a threat % that does not match the threat % reported by Omen3. Why?
Blizzard's threat percentage is scaled to between 0% and 100%, so that you will always pull aggro at 100%. Omen reports the raw unscaled values which has pulling aggro percentages at 110% while in melee range and 130% otherwise.
By universal agreement, the primary target of a mob is called the tank and is defined to be at 100% threat.
The threat updates are slow...
Omen3 updates the threat values you see as often as Blizzard updates the threat values to us.
In fact, Blizzard updates them about once per second, which is much faster than what Omen2 used to sync updates. In Omen2, you only transmitted your threat to the rest of the raid once every 3 seconds (or 1.5s if you were a tank).

People please stop crying about Omen. Its a fail. Its a disaster. Its dead.
Now all go back to KTM.
Dont say shit please BidyBag, Omen puts KTM out of the course... Don't be hangry if it fails only on you.
KTM school the omen pic eof shit buddy
Good job on Omen! Was a little rocky there after the 2.4 release but the bugs seem to have been fixed and is so far working fine for me and everyone using it in my guild. For those complaining about the numerous setup options, it's really not that difficult to set up (not at all, imo). You're probably also the ones that complain about having to click the "Load outdated mods" checkbox. /facepalm
Anyway, my only suggestion would be for those that also update it from wowace is to be cautious. I've heard the only "stable" versions are here...and personally I've had to revert back to a version released here after trying a version from wowace. But that's kinda the price you pay for using the latest/greatest versions. :P
Either way, keep up the good work! I for one am happy I switched to Omen.
I too have no idea how this new and updated Omen works. We most of us int he guils update this regularly (as it seems there is an update at least once a week) and it just doesnt seem to do what it used to. As a healer, I need to see peoples threat to anticipate who will need healing and I cannot find a way to see ANY bars whatsoever on my omen screen. I have tried messing with the setting over and over and no bars at all appear. And some people get 5 or 6 bars for the same person but no constant view.
Please PLEASE make an 'OmenLite' version of this without all the fancy setting, so it will actually do what its supposed to do.
Actually, I´m not sure about Omen. The most time, I switch this addon away, because it doesn´t work - I see millions of billions bars, which saying nothing to me. Yes, some people still lazy to update this threat meter, but ... I don´t know - it far too complex now. The people need a manual for this addon, to figure out how it works. But please - if you write a manual, be sure you don´t get more as 30 pages...
Don´t missunderstand - I like Omen (the pre-2.4 version). A simple neat addon, which showing the people all necessary information. Great. But now, there are too many options, to many posibilities, to many "unknow" things, to many flickering and overlapping bars, which saying me nothing to me. Terrible. It´s so sad.
But I´m sure, we will figure out, how it works and Omen will be back on the top ... yes?
Omen was the best because it was simple to use and had a simple interface. Now it's just like any other Threat Meter.
valour13 i think you're a little confused, the combat log display has nothing to do with how Omen works, you could show anything you wanted in the combat log and it would work the same.
Remember people.. you must set your combat log to "Everything" for omen to work properly. Omen is Fantastic, dont jump to conclusions just because you cant figure out whats going on. There are options for just about every complaint I've read in this thread if ya'll would just open your eyes and look.
I seriously need a manual to use this mod! I'm not trying to trash talk the mod...I'm just used to KLH. I have not used Omen pre-2.4 and only switched because KLH wasn't being updated right away. From my understanding a lot of my guilds Omen users have said it was easier to use before 2.4, but, they still like it. I know that I have read both the Omen and the newly updated KLH sites and they are not able to share info anymore....but, is it possible to get that feature added back in. I would like to raid with my guild and have the people who still love Omen to use that..and the people like me, who love and were used to KLH be able to go back to the mod we're used to.
I appreciate the effert you are putting into this mod to improve it. And am sure Omen lovers will stick with you on it. It's just a lil to much for my taste. Good luck on any upcoming updates.
Well seems as though we're gettin a good handle on the new omen. The biggest/easiest thing we made note of was makin sure everyone was on single target mode. There are a lot of neat doodads on this new Omen...stuff we dont need so we all went to classic view and single target mode and made sure...most important...we all had the same version. that seemed to fix everything to the point where we got omen down to the simple bars we're used to: whos got threat and how much. From a tanks point of view i really dont want people with the ability of tossing out pom pyros and shadow bolst like candy takin their eye off the TPS bars to tinker with some neat option the authors added into it. Found that out the hard way. Unecessary options take your head out of combat and lead to wipes. Long story short, we got omen to work in the guild cuz we're all on the same page, but when we're out puggin, where a threat meter is a must, its not workin. too many options, pple want an addon to help manage information for them not give them more information to manage.
Hey, We all updated in guild, followed config advice and STILL have nothing except the odd "unkown" bar with meaningless numbers...
Whats odd is that it works for only one of my characters, my lock and that is only when I am alone and not in party, we used and relied on Omen for so long and now we are going to have to use another prog simply as our less learned players need to control their aggro.
Hope it all works out.
Hey I just wanted to toss out some love for the developers for Omen. All I read here is people bashing Omen, but I love it. I have been using it before 2.4 and I'm still using it now. Now it is annoying that when an update comes out it is not compatible with previous versions like the old Omen was, but to get around it when a new version comes out I'll test it for the guild and if all is well I'll post for the guild which version I want them to use. All is well after that. Keep up the good work!!!
i agree, i love the new omen interface. much sleeker, but i understand that its gonna take time to work out the kinks, the developer is clearly trying to fix this with each new release. omen will be back to its former glory soon enough im sure =)
if u want 1 threat meter that works here it is http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/11838/ diamon threat meter.. im using it and it works... hope i helped u =)
It looks very promising and indeed really nice if some people in your party doesn't have threatmeter installed, but some classes have abilities that are impossible to estimate without everyone running threatmeters.
Nevertheless very good mod and if it will keep evolving it should become a good replacement for Omen/KTM.
p.s. I haven't tested it in raid yet and not sure how much will be an calculation error percentage in it's calculations for a long fight in it's current state, but it shows numbers just slightly different from KTM for my class on normal mobs now.
p.p.s. On a sidenote it is not Ace based, so you won't have silly problems with Ace libraries not updating properly, making your addon not working when you just updated 15 minutes before the raid
i wouldn't be soo quick to jump ship from Omen to KTM, i have been using KTM for a long time and currently can't get a version to work, even on my warlock where it used to show my pet now doesn't pet threat, have also tanked instances on my druid and peoples KTM aren't linking up together, so its not just Omen that isn't working since patch 2.4 :(
Me and my guild are also switching from Omen to KTM... the new Omen after 2.4 is epic fail...
New omen is a fail. Everybody back to KTM.
i used omen much time before patch 2.4... it was for me the best threat meter in wow... but now it sucks and i had to change my threat meter.. actually i use http://wow.curse.com/downloads/details/11838/
nice threat meter for patch 2.4 working and got 1 nice interface...
cya omen =(
