Prat 3.0
In loving memory of Jon Akthar (Sylvanaar)
Hello WoW community, I'm LuciferCatnip, Sylvanaar was my coworker and my mentor. It goes without saying that Jon was an amazingly talented individual. He always seemed to know everything… but he once said to me "It's not about knowing the answers, it's about asking the right questions", he always challenged me to ask me the right questions until I would arrive at the answer on my own terms. Jon was also a champion of the open source movement, and so with special thanks to Gil from Curseforge as well as Sylvanaar's family, there's no better way to honor Sylvanaar's legacy than to keep his project going strong in the community.
If you'd like to help maintain Prat, please reach out to MysticalOS or LuciferCatnip directly. Thank you so much.
About
Prat-3.0 is a chat enhancement addon for World of Warcraft.
It is made up of 30+ smaller "modules" which each provide additional functionality, and can be enabled or disabled individually.
In game, type /prat for a menu. Or use the icon on one of the many data broker hosts.
Prat has just about every feature you can think of, and then some. Really. When I get some more time, I'll try and put together a full list (Even I have lost count)
(Thanks to Dreamsight for this partial list)
- Sync your chat settings across your account (Beta)
- Machine learning powered spam filter (Beta)
- Change arrows, buttons, mouse scroll for chat scroll, scroll speed
- you can add player color per channel, color per level, color per class
- timestamps (styled)
- whether to show timestamp (what format the timestamp should be in)
- whether to show players level
- you can select the option for channel "stickys" (last channel you used you auto use when hitting enter, that sort of thing – or last thing someone said)
- change the looks of the chat's editbox - as well as where it appears (you can even undock it and move it to where you'd like it to be)
- chat fading, fading delay
- You can change the font to a list of fonts, add an outline to it, monochrome it (if you don’t mind messing with files a bit you could probably even add other fonts to that list)
- change the chat frame/chat box appearance
- Keep chat history between game sessions
- Set channel abbreviations
- set brackets and color(or something instead of brackets)round player/lvl
- alt invite option (press keyboard “alt” button and click on the player’s name to auto inv them)
- raid icon
- invite links - click them to invite the person
- URL copying
- Full chat copying + copy button
- Click timestamp to copy line
- Configurable alerts when your name or other word is mentioned
- enables tell target /tt which whispers your target
- Alias options - make macros into short commands
- See names of players Alt characters
- change chat sounds (incoming and outgoing as well as per channel)
- Achievements info and grats
- Full chat search and search box
- Customizable filters for advanced users
- Show item icon next to item links and player class icon next to player names
- Icon-only options for newcomers chat
- Optional flashing or font color change for chat tabs when a new message comes in.
You can enable/disable all Prat modules - don't have to have the ones you don't use running
While trying to reduce resource utilization, it is also important to note that some people prefer the features, and don't care that an addon uses 500k more.
1 small comment / request would be letting fading tad include more options than general like combat text etc
Thanks
The combat tab isnt managed by prat usually - but i'll see if it can be done in this case.
I know in times like this (patch releases) being an addon author ain't good for your health..
Keep up the good work!
Also thanks to those folks who have premium accounts which in turn helps support the author rewards program. Most of us authors do this because we enjoy it and would do it with or without donation/rewards - but they are nice.
Also, thanks to all of you who help make prat better by providing feedback, reporting bugs, and helping with answering questions from other users.
What happens is WoW defualt colored names will be off for all channels and Prat's will be on or off, and they still show up. Then If you try to turn them on, the channel just gets deleted.
If I turn them 'on' in the WoW settings for guild chat, for example, I can no longer see guild chat.
Ie: /2 shows "[2. Trade - City]:" instead of just "[2]:":
This is frustrating when there are long channel names as you can't see what you are typing at all.
Remember some people dont know what the channel is, they type /2 and see what channel is shown in the edibox to make sure they are using the correct one.
Now, there is another trick you can use. The Alias module is one of the most handy modules at times. With the alias module you can make /2 always be the trade channel, or make /tr the trade channel. This also would remove the need to show the channel name in the editbox. Try "/alias /tr /csay Trade", or "/alias /gen /csay general"
Alias in general is /alias <new slash command> <old slash commmand>
Try: "/alias /hi /s Hello!"
Now use the /hi command you made to say hello.
Please make a feature request ticket using the bug reports link above.
The alias command is: "/alias [new command] [old command]"
in the example [new command] is "/hi", and [old command] is "/s Hello!"
Note, you can't put more than one command as [old command], and you cant alias secure commands like /target /cast etc.
Thanks,
TD
When I configure prat its settings are being saved on all the tabs I created (Guild, Whispers) except the "General" tab, in which nothing is changed and it looks like a normal chat.
I tried reinstalling, deleting all the saved variations and installing anew...
and nothing.
I really need help. Thanx for the addon.
I uninstalled and removed Prat files from the WTF folder. There were no issues when I logged back in using default Blizz chat. Upon reinstalling Prat, the issue started again.
One thing I noticed is that there is an "incoming whisper" box and another "whisper" box. Is this redundant?
Thanks for your effort on this MOD.
- prevent coloring names inside of links
- fixed issue where playerlinks with icons were not clickable
- fixed issue where popupmessages with icons would leave the icon visible
- fixed case-sensitivity in channelcolormemory
- fix issues with setting modules to load enabled or disabled when they are currently set as "dont load", changed the text and color for enabled and disabled which requires a reload.
These fixes are in the current alpha version.
If you don't use alpha versions, you will see these changes when I release 3.2.3 in the next day or so.
