NOTE: PATCH 5.4 BREAKS PV AND SIMILAR ADDONS
Blizzard has made a major change to the operation of tradeskill hyperlinks in patch 5.4.0, whose implementation seriously affects their usability and fundamentally breaks addons such as ProfessionsVault that rely upon them. Read more details here, and please help complain on the Blizzard Bug Report Forums. A recent tweet from Blizzard Community Manager Bashiok hints there may be a fix forthcoming in a future client patch, however it STILL remains broken after two client patches (5.4.2).
The current release of ProfessionsVault is a "cripped" version that omits the features which rely upon working TradeSkill links (annotated below). There is still no way to open the trade skill links for characters that are offline or you are not directly interacting with. This limitation is imposed by Blizzard's broken hyperlink implementation, as described above. Other features are fully functional, notably including recipe coloring and AH scanning. It notably also allows you to open the tradeskill windows of any same-guild toon in your database (it uses the guild roster to bypass the broken hyperlinks).
Features
Profession list features
- ProfessionsVault automatically records and saves the profession links of all your alts
- Easily allows saving any professions linked from friends or guildies into your database
- <Broken in 5.4> Provides one-click access to the Trade Skill UI of any toon's profession.
- Supports easily posting links of your toon's professions to any chat
- Data is shared between all your toons on the realm, including cross-faction
- <Broken in 5.4> Comes pre-loaded with links to fully-stocked professions
Tooltip/Recipe features
- Enhances recipe tooltips with info about which characters can learn the pattern
- Colors recipes in the Auction House display to indicate which characters can learn the pattern
- Colors recipes in the Merchant (vendor) window display to indicate which characters can learn them.
- Automated scan allows your bank character to scan the AH for recipes learnable by any alt.
- Customizable recipe coloring and character name coloring
Misc features
- Includes an LDB broker with easy access to your professions, supports Fubar or Titan Panel, or can be used stand-alone
- Based on the Ace3 Addon Framework
- Enables the "link" button on all profession windows (default UI just has it for your own)
- Integrates nicely with other profession-related addons such as Ackis Recipe List, Skillet, Advanced Trade Skill Window and Gnomeworks
Usage
- Open the PV window using the minimap icon, LDB launcher or by typing "/pv show" on the command line.
- PV window shows all the saved professions for your character, any alts on the same account running PV, and any profession links you've saved.
- <Broken in 5.4> PV window also includes links to fully-stocked professions (ie containing every recipe)
- Data update happens automatically whenever you open a trade skill window, or you can update them all at any time using the "Scan my Professions" button. PV will automatically update when you learn a recipe or skill up.
- Config button can be used to configure tooltip/coloring integration.
- To save any profession link into PV (eg whispered from a friend or in trade), just open the link and press the new "Save" button that appears at the bottom of the Trade Skill UI. The same technique can be used to merge profession data from a second account (dual-boxing).

Hi again,
Can you please try to update what can be updated ?
Thanks in advance.
Drak
coloring recipes at the venodr so I know what to buy next is my main reason for using this addon. I would be happy with an update to fix just that part, and hope for a fix from blizzard to open alts tradeskills later :)
I would love to know how you get this to even work. I even switched off Altoholic etc. Still no go.... I would a love a response please ....
Does the bug described here still exist? Because now it seems I can open links from alts. At least via ProfessionsVault UI.
I love this addon - By now, I'm totally used to not being able to check my alt's professions links, but here's what I'm *really* missing:
Recipe colors/tooltips on the AH/Vendors.
The question "does my alt have this" or "which alt does" is always messy. I would be soooooo happy if we could get that functionality either in a patched version of this addon or a different one.
Yes, there's "Does my alt know that" and "Book of Crafts" or "Who Knows", but they're all stuck, abandoned, or don't recolor the AH/Vendor.
Please? Pretty Please?!
Same here. The colouring of the recipes was actually the main reason for me to use this addon - so if anyone knows of an alternative with this feature working, i'll be most grateful :-)
+1 ! Very usefull to be able to find the missing recipes for jewelcrafting with the daily quest in orgrim :)

Me too. The only feature why I used this addon. WoD broke that feature, sadly enough. Are you still around for an update?
Totally agree. Got so used to having this addon doing that. Please update :)
PV has been disabled today for me. I think Bliz server disabled it even though it shows loaded under addons.
I very much miss not being able to make a quick glance at all my craft skills on the titan bar as well as being able to open each craft w/o having to use precious buttons.
You would think after 12+ months it would be fixed
ANd for some reason it is disable by the server
I am sure it does not need a client fix for it they have it just disable for some reason
Blizzard says it needs a client fix but if it did they would of fixed it by now
It is crap that alot of things are broken and they do not plan to fix it
You may need to make a new forum post and post here please so people can post on there to complain and update the link in your addon as well
Did they ever fix the problem that broke this addon in 6.02 12 months later???
Unfortunately trade skill hyperlinks remain just as broken in 6.0.2. Most importantly, it remains impossible to open a tradeskill link for your alt, or another toon you haven't directly interacted with recently (unless they are in guild and you bypass the link using the guild profession tab).
I'll eventually update the "cripped" version of PV for WoD data, but it's a low priority since the core tradeskill link functionality remains broken.
I take it is still broken even with two more patches down the track after the first patch that broke it...lol
I am trying to figure out how to set a recipe as a favorite, but so far am only able to set the professions as a whole in the favorite section using the PV frame. I can right click on a profession and chose to add to favorites, but I cannot find a way to add specific recipes.
Correct - the favorites function is for entire tradeskills (eg of friends or alts), not particular recipes. The feature makes more sense when tradeskill links are actually working (ie pre 5.4).
Would you consider adding recipe to the favorite frame? Such as being able to show crafting cd's or commonly crafted items in the favorite list.
Thank you very much the update of this addon, even when is "nerfed" by blizzard. I was going crazy without it......
