Rarity
NEW:
- Support for Cataclysm Classic (experimental)
- Rarity now has a Discord server!
If you're interested in following the development process or contributing, you should also check out the official GitHub repository. We're always in need of more hands to help us make the addon better!
Rarity tracks how many times you've tried to obtain various rare items like mounts, battle pets, and toys. It will tell you how likely you are to obtain the item, track how long you've been farming for it, and tell you how lucky you've been so far. Although it's mostly used for mounts, battle pets, and toys, it supports pretty much any item, including profession patterns, archaeology projects, and more.

Out of the box, Rarity includes support for every single mount, battle pet, and toy in the game which require some time to farm. It also includes support for some mount-related items like Skyshard, Primal Egg, and Giant Dinosaur Bone. It'll even notice if you mouseover a Mysterious Camel Figurine, plus lots of other stuff. Rarity factors in the size of a typical group when determining probabilities, and can also tell you if you've killed various bosses this week (or day). Holiday just started, and you didn't notice? Rarity will give you a helpful reminder to run those holiday dungeons or daily quests if you still need an item from them.
If Rarity doesn't track something you want to track, you can add it yourself! Just about everything is user configurable.
Curious what math is going on behind the scenes? The author of Bunny Hunter created the original algorithms. He wrote an article about it here. Your chance to obtain an item doesn't increase as you farm it; Rarity is just telling you how lucky you've been so far. It can be remarkably cathartic to see a progress bar move up as you spend hours upon hours trying for that Disgusting Oozeling.
Main features
- Rarity is primarily an LDB feed with a large tooltip. It can function as either a mini-map icon (you have to turn this on in the options), or as a standard LDB feed (use a display like Fortress, Button Bin, Titan Panel, or Chocolate Bar).
- Provides a progress bar, which you can toggle by clicking the icon or feed label.
- Adds info to NPC and item tooltips, showing you if it drops or contains something that Rarity tracks. Rare mobs with a guaranteed drop show which item they drop and if you've defeated them yet.
- Includes full source info, telling you how to obtain everything Rarity tracks.
Other features
- Share packs of items with other users
- Can automatically add waypoints to TomTom for certain items
- Uses statistics whenever possible to keep track of attempts
- Breaks your farming down by session, day, week, and month
- Looks at your instance locks to see if you've defeated various bosses recently
- Reminds you if you need to farm a holiday dungeon or daily quest, and hides holiday items that aren't available right now
- Supports bonus coin rolls
- Automatically screenshots when you obtain an item
- Keeps track of rare achievements like Frostbitten and Glorious
- You can add your own items to track
- Lets you modify your attempt count without having to edit saved variables
- Automatically imports data from Bunny Hunter if you're switching
Slash Commands
Simply typing /rarity should open the options menu (unless disabled).
For troubleshooting issues:
- /rarity dump displays the most recent debug log entries (even if the debug mode is disabled)
- /rarity validate checks the consistency of your item database, including custom items (experimental)

Thanks for your quick answer :-) I'm a web developper, i can understand this ;-)
Maybe a "easy" solution is to count only stats from statistics ? Boss under Mist of pandaria don't count coin.
If you can't solve all the problem, maybe you can at least only count from statistics for new user. I understand that's old installation can't retroactivly update with this solution.
Yes my goal is to create a solution for brand new users. It's pretty complicated and might break the add-on for everyone else, so testing will be crucial. Might be a bit before I get to this though!
Actually you're right, in that I could have any items that don't support coins automatically tally up the results. That would be a relatively low-risk solution that could apply to all players, not just new ones. It just wouldn't work for coin-enabled things.
Alright, the latest build should basically fix this issue. It's retroactive for current users, too, not just new ones. Only works for items tracked by statistics, and doesn't take into account bonus coin rolls.
Nice job, that's more consistent now :-)
Thanks !
Do you have any idea why my announcement section looks like this:

I would like to have the option to announce to guild chat but that option is not possible for me for some reason :D
That Sub Section does not work for me at all where-ever I tick the checkboxes
You should have a box entitled "Channel" there, which I see is not there. Then you can pick a subsection of Guild. I can't answer why it's not there, because this functionality is served by a library called LibSink. It's working for me. The only theory I have is some kind of add-on conflict, or a bug in LibSink.
Hi, I'm finding that the totals Rarity is showing for most boss kills (and therefore attempts at certain mounts, like Invincible's Reins from the Lich King for example) are somewhat inconsistent. Some numbers Rarity shows are the number of kills one character has, while others seem to be the total across all my characters? Is it only meant to show the kills of the character your on? Or account wide? Because I have multiple characters running through the same old raids for mounts each week, I was hoping to have an add on that tracked my account wide attempts but Rarity seems to be doing this really inconsistently?
From the FAQ: https://www.wowace.com/addons/rarity/forum/40930-frequently-asked-questions/#p1
Why doesn't Rarity automatically add up all the Statistics across all my characters to arrive at a total attempt count?
Unfortunately, Rarity was designed before cross-account mounts, pets and toys were implemented by Blizzard. As a result, it is not possible for Rarity to automatically total up your Statistics across more than one character. You need to do this yourself one time. From then on, as long as Rarity is running on every character, and every character is assigned to the same Profile, each attempt count will be added up to the total.
I'm so sorry for asking something that was in the FAQ. I infact just found the ability to manually add attempts in the options, so was busy totting up my totals. Thank you for your quick reply anyway, I'm loving the add on, it's a lifesaver when you're farming so...many...things on like 10 characters haha.
No worries at all! Actually this is a huge annoyance, it's just such a difficult thing to fix that I haven't figured out how to do it yet. Maybe soon!!
Can you add Illusions?
Read the section above entitled Rarity Item Packs.
Is there a way to change the sorting, ie to alphabetical instead of by expansion? I thought I had done that in the past, but no longer able to. Thanks
Yes, you need to Ctrl-Click the icon or feed text, and it will cycle through all available sort orders. I believe there are 3 types of sorting now, soon to become 5 (I'm adding sort by zone and sort by distance).
Thank you!
I'm having an issue getting the minimap button to show up. I'm using SyncUI and all the other addon buttons show up but rarity just has a big circle over it and I can't click it. I posted on Sync and was sent here. Any Idea? It's updated
I'm not familiar with Sync, unfortunately. The minimap button should behave like any other minimap button. It works properly with other addons such as SexyMap. I'm not sure what to offer you, here.
Rarity tends to work better as an LDB feed. Maybe try adding a display like Fortress instead of using the minimap icon.
The latest update is throwing an error:
Rarity_Options\Options-Options.lua:8: Cannot find a library instance of "LibCompress"
Unable to reproduce. Please fully restart your game client, you may have updated Rarity while the game was running.
Oops, my bad. Apparently that was it. No errors now. Thanks.
