- Support for Cataclysm Classic (experimental)
- Rarity now has a Discord server!

Rarity tracks how many times you've tried to obtain various rare items like mounts, battle pets, and toys. It will tell you how likely you are to obtain the item, track how long you've been farming for it, and tell you how lucky you've been so far. Although it's mostly used for mounts, battle pets, and toys, it supports pretty much any item, including profession patterns, archaeology projects, and more.

Out of the box, Rarity includes support for every single mount, battle pet, and toy in the game which require some time to farm. It also includes support for some mount-related items like Skyshard, Primal Egg, and Giant Dinosaur Bone. It'll even notice if you mouseover a Mysterious Camel Figurine, plus lots of other stuff. Rarity factors in the size of a typical group when determining probabilities, and can also tell you if you've killed various bosses this week (or day). Holiday just started, and you didn't notice? Rarity will give you a helpful reminder to run those holiday dungeons or daily quests if you still need an item from them.
If Rarity doesn't track something you want to track, you can add it yourself! Just about everything is user configurable.
Curious what math is going on behind the scenes? The author of Bunny Hunter created the original algorithms. He wrote an article about it here. Your chance to obtain an item doesn't increase as you farm it; Rarity is just telling you how lucky you've been so far. It can be remarkably cathartic to see a progress bar move up as you spend hours upon hours trying for that Disgusting Oozeling.
Main features
- Rarity is primarily an LDB feed with a large tooltip. It can function as either a mini-map icon (you have to turn this on in the options), or as a standard LDB feed (use a display like Fortress, Button Bin, Titan Panel, or Chocolate Bar).
- Provides a progress bar, which you can toggle by clicking the icon or feed label.
- Adds info to NPC and item tooltips, showing you if it drops or contains something that Rarity tracks. Rare mobs with a guaranteed drop show which item they drop and if you've defeated them yet.
- Includes full source info, telling you how to obtain everything Rarity tracks.
Other features
- Share packs of items with other users
- Can automatically add waypoints to TomTom for certain items
- Uses statistics whenever possible to keep track of attempts
- Breaks your farming down by session, day, week, and month
- Looks at your instance locks to see if you've defeated various bosses recently
- Reminds you if you need to farm a holiday dungeon or daily quest, and hides holiday items that aren't available right now
- Supports bonus coin rolls
- Automatically screenshots when you obtain an item
- Keeps track of rare achievements like Frostbitten and Glorious
- You can add your own items to track
- Lets you modify your attempt count without having to edit saved variables
- Automatically imports data from Bunny Hunter if you're switching
Slash Commands
Simply typing /rarity should open the options menu (unless disabled).
For troubleshooting issues:
- /rarity dump displays the most recent debug log entries (even if the debug mode is disabled)
- /rarity validate checks the consistency of your item database, including custom items (experimental)

At long last, the time has come for me to quit WoW—and with it, development on Rarity. I've kept this add-on going for nearly seven years, but I can't continue to do it without a WoW subscription.
If any experienced add-on developer is interested in continuing to maintain this add-on, send me a private message. Rarity is a very complex add-on, with its fingers in many to most of WoW's events and operating at very high speed in response to most in-game actions. As a result, only authors with fairly significant experience should respond.
Godspeed in whatever new endeavors you might be.

Just a quick question and something I noticed over the past several weeks.
Does Rarity announce to guild when you get a "Rare" item or mount?
I have had it announce to guild with <Character-Name> has obtained <Item-Name>
I cannot point it directly to Rarity, so that is what I am trying to figure out. If so, how can you turn that off? I went into settings and see nothing for it, so hesitant to blame it on Rarity (and admit it could be from something else, so figured I would ask.
It did it on a Legendary item I picked up on one toon and when I finally got ashes, it did it again.
Rarity does announce when an item is found, and it can optionally announce on attempts. Under Options, scroll to the bottom of the General tab and find the Announcements section. It doesn't default to Guild, so you must have set it to that at some point.
After last update rarity is loading every log in and lagging few secs until load is over
Working as intended for many months now.
Dont know really but after last update everytime i log any char rarity loads in 5-10 secs from 0 to 100% and i cant move char lag as hell until its at 100% had never problems with it before and my fps is around 100 when i turn off addon there are no lags while logging char.
Rarity isn't affecting your framerate.
when is the Midnight's Eternal Reins and the Smoldering Ember Wyrm going to be added to the rarity listing so we can track the atempts on them?
Wyrm is 100% drop or close enough, so it won't be added. I'll create a ticket to add Midnight's Eternal Reins. Please in the future create tickets when you wish to see an item added.
Is there any way to see the number of attempts you made on a mount AFTER you have gotten the mount?
If you just want to see the attempts, open Rarity Options and find the item. Attempts is one of the fields you can edit.
If you want to see the whole Rarity tooltip including the farm time breakdowns and stuff, go into Rarity Options, find the item, turn ON Repeatable, and turn ON Track This. That will put it back into Rarity tracking and in the main tooltip.
So just last week I finally got a rare mount that I was farming. I have the screenshot (thanks to Rarity!) that shows 92 of 100 attempts but when I go to Interface - Addons - Rarity it show 0 attempts. I turned on Track this and Repeatable but the number didn't change.
Am I looking in the wrong place?
Also, how do I show the tooltip outside of running into the instance and looking at the boss that drops the item? I tried using the Adventure Guide but it doesn't display tooltips for the bosses.
Mounts shouldn't reset to 0 attempts unless they were marked Repeatable when you obtained the item. In that case, it does reset it to 0.
To see the full Rarity tooltip for an item, make sure Track This is checked (if you already obtained the item, you must also check Repeatable). Then you can pull up the Rarity LDB tooltip and find the item.
You can't see in-world tooltips for an NPC unless you are looking at the NPC. There is no point in showing this tooltip in any other way, as all it does is identify the item(s) an NPC can drop.
For a while now, Rarity incorrectly tracks my Ultraxion kills. I've counted all of my kills across all toons, and it equals 215. Rarity keeps trying to forcibly update it to over 300 for no reason at all. I'll turn off tracking, fix the number of kills manually, then reset tracking. If I log onto another character, it jumps up again to a higher number of kills.
And yes, that is counting BOTH normal and heroic kills. On all characters.
I don't know how to fix this, but it's getting frustrating.
Rarity probably thinks it has statistics across multiple characters for this NPC and it is adding them all together. If you recently renamed a character and server transferred them, this can cause a duplicate character in the saved variables. ONLY renaming a character, but not transferring them, does not cause this. Unfortunately the only fix is to manually edit the saved variables. You have to look for ["Player- and then find the player that no longer exists and delete that entire section.
Other than that possibility, I'm not aware of any other reason for this to happen. If you don't have any duplicate characters in saved variables, then Rarity is just adding up statistics across all your characters. Maybe you missed one.
Actually, that is a possibility, because I transferred 4 characters to a new realm recently. A couple of them were also renamed.
Thanks for the information. I'll see what I can do.
Where do I edit the saved variables?
EDIT: Never mind. I found it.
For those who also want to know, it's the Rarity.lua file inside the SavedVariables folder for your account name inside the WTF folder of the WoW directory.
This fixed the issue. Thanks for the help.
Awesome, thanks for letting me know. I may at some point try to add a Purge Data feature that lets you find those characters in the UI and delete them instead of manually editing them, but it's fairly difficult so I haven't done it yet.
Hi!
So for some strange reason, the addon has reset itself. It shows 0 kills, instead of the actual numbers. It's not on all bosses though, but just some, and I don't see a pattern to why. It's both end bosses and not.
For instance, it shows 0 kills on Skadi (WotLK boss) when in reality I have 12 kills on this character I'm looking at atm. Is there a setting I messed up, or what's going on?
