Rarity
NEW:
- Support for Cataclysm Classic (experimental)
- Rarity now has a Discord server!
If you're interested in following the development process or contributing, you should also check out the official GitHub repository. We're always in need of more hands to help us make the addon better!
Rarity tracks how many times you've tried to obtain various rare items like mounts, battle pets, and toys. It will tell you how likely you are to obtain the item, track how long you've been farming for it, and tell you how lucky you've been so far. Although it's mostly used for mounts, battle pets, and toys, it supports pretty much any item, including profession patterns, archaeology projects, and more.
Looking for Rarity Item Packs? Click here.
Out of the box, Rarity includes support for every single mount, battle pet, and toy in the game which require some time to farm. It also includes support for some mount-related items like Skyshard, Primal Egg, and Giant Dinosaur Bone. It'll even notice if you mouseover a Mysterious Camel Figurine, plus lots of other stuff. Rarity factors in the size of a typical group when determining probabilities, and can also tell you if you've killed various bosses this week (or day). Holiday just started, and you didn't notice? Rarity will give you a helpful reminder to run those holiday dungeons or daily quests if you still need an item from them.
If Rarity doesn't track something you want to track, you can add it yourself! Just about everything is user configurable.
Curious what math is going on behind the scenes? The author of Bunny Hunter created the original algorithms. He wrote an article about it here. Your chance to obtain an item doesn't increase as you farm it; Rarity is just telling you how lucky you've been so far. It can be remarkably cathartic to see a progress bar move up as you spend hours upon hours trying for that Disgusting Oozeling.
Main features
- Rarity is primarily an LDB feed with a large tooltip. It can function as either a mini-map icon (you have to turn this on in the options), or as a standard LDB feed (use a display like Fortress, Button Bin, Titan Panel, or Chocolate Bar).
- Provides a progress bar, which you can toggle by clicking the icon or feed label.
- Adds info to NPC and item tooltips, showing you if it drops or contains something that Rarity tracks. Rare mobs with a guaranteed drop show which item they drop and if you've defeated them yet.
- Includes full source info, telling you how to obtain everything Rarity tracks.
Other features
- Share packs of items with other users
- Can automatically add waypoints to TomTom for certain items
- Uses statistics whenever possible to keep track of attempts
- Breaks your farming down by session, day, week, and month
- Looks at your instance locks to see if you've defeated various bosses recently
- Reminds you if you need to farm a holiday dungeon or daily quest, and hides holiday items that aren't available right now
- Supports bonus coin rolls
- Automatically screenshots when you obtain an item
- Keeps track of rare achievements like Frostbitten and Glorious
- You can add your own items to track
- Lets you modify your attempt count without having to edit saved variables
- Automatically imports data from Bunny Hunter if you're switching
Slash Commands
Simply typing /rarity should open the options menu (unless disabled).
For troubleshooting issues:
- /rarity dump displays the most recent debug log entries (even if the debug mode is disabled)
- /rarity validate checks the consistency of your item database, including custom items (experimental)

What makes you think rendering the tooltip causes the freeze? For me, it takes almost as long (270ms) and I'm not experiencing anything I'd consider a freeze (= AppHang, WOW stops responding).
Such hangups can indeed be caused by addons hogging all the available CPU, but Rarity shouldn't do this, especially not with concurrent updates that run in the background. If Rarity was indeed blocking the game it would be fairly noticeable. Try entering this to see what it looks like:
Warning: It will freeze the game for a few seconds at least, until execution is stopped with a "Script ran too long" error. You can decrease the 32 to 25 - or so to simulate a shorter hangup, 25 is approximately 300ms for me but your mileage may vary. If you try this
you should see a shorter freeze that would (hopefully... check the output) be close to the 300ms Rarity's tooltip rendering would take even if it was blocking everything else.
Perhaps this is indeed what you're experiencing, in which case it would require further troubleshooting. For me, however, an actual 300ms freeze as simulated here doesn't seem very impactful. Therefore, I think it's possible that something else might be causing your problem.
Hey everyone , past few weeks had fps drop/freeze when was mouseover rarity icon or when it's loading when you log in, couldn't fix it unless was completely reinstalling it and losing all data(which sucks) but today by mistake clicked rarity icon and changed "sorted by" and all freezes gone, started testing stuff looks like sorting by anything but name making freezes/fps drops(sort by zone most busted just 2-3 freeze).
posting here because maybe anyone had similar issue and devs might can fix it.

Did this always happen or was there a specific version you updated to before it started? Performance issues are notoriously difficult to troubleshoot, but if you can provide me with sufficient information I will be happy to look into it.
Hi Cakechart,
1) I saw your reply to tpaiju regarding the difficulty of tracking the chance of these Island Expedition drops.
But I think what tpaiju meant and what I for sure mean, is that several drops are not listed in Rarity at all.
When you check https://warcraft-secrets.com/guides/island-expeditions-rewards you see that there is the mount Risen Mare. I dot not own that mount yet, but it is not showing up in Rarity.
2) Since this week there seems to be a problem with the mount that can drop from Darkshore rare Croz Bloodrage(aliance)/shadowclaw(horde): it shows up in my list twice now:
Captured Kaldorei Nightsaber (15 attempts) and
Kaldorei Nightsaber (1 attempt)
I put a screenshot here https://imgur.com/a/dlATVT4
In reply to thahustler:
Yup, I haven't managed to add those yet. I'm still not sure as to the value of having any of those drops in there now that the tracking is simply wrong, but I can add them to at least give a false sense of progress, however inaccurate it may be, if that is what you mean?
The Nightsaber mount wasn't tracked properly before. This is now fixed... I hope! There are two items, one from each faction-specific rare, but both award the same mount. What SHOULD happen is that when you kill either one of the rares, the respective mount item shows one additional attempt, but not both.
Before the fix, killing Shadowclaw (Horde) would add an attempt for the item that only Croz Bloodrage (Alliance) can drop. Therefore, any attempts listed are for both rares combined if you play both factions, and for Horde players they're actually Shadowclaw kills that haven't been tracked properly. For Alliance players, this shouldn't change anything. Once you've learned the mount, both would be completed.
I'm not 100% finished with testing this yet as it requires a new Warfront cycle to check, but this was the intention.

Despite my reservations, I've added the items to the latest release. Let me know if something's awry!
In reply to Cakechart:
Thank you for adding them.
I understand your reservations and think there is a discrepancy between your goals as a dev and my goals as a user. It seems that your main objective is to have accurate chance values for the listed items while my main objective is to have a complete and compact overview of specific types of items (toys, mounts, pets) that I am missing as a player.
Rarity works wonderful to give me that information and I am totally fine to see somewhat arbitrary chance vales, as long as the item shows up in the list when I still miss the item.
I am aware that there is ATT (AllTheThings) which also gives me that information and I use ATT everyday for xmog farming and getting all the 360+ WoD Garrsion Followers and collecting all the other stuff, but Rarity shines as it is compact and shows the things that I can farm on any char, regardless of class and armor type. Also ATT has no chance values.
PS: I am not arguing to add ALL pets and so on. If an item cannot drop from a farm-able source, like TCG pets or TCG mounts and the like, I wouldn't want them in the list.
In reply to thahustler:
While I do value accuracy, chances are almost always an educated guess and therefore unreliable. The problem with island expedition drops is that they have very specific (and convoluted, from a development point of view) criteria before they can even be acquired. The expedition tracking doesn't account for this and all, and must therefore be considered incorrect.
That said, I did add those new collectibles also. Just don't rely on the counter being useful in any way, as it simply tracks ALL expeditions completed before obtaining a given item... even if they can't drop it in the first place (due to having the wrong enemies present, which Rarity won't know).
Hi,
Is there any plan to modify the custom feature ? Because right now adding objects in here is really long and tedious. (I guess this is why there is only ONE rarity pack since the launch of this addon)
I want to add all recipes to rarity and some items such as scrolls for the Jukebox but it takes like... 1 to 2 minutes per item.
Tried looking in the code if i could put it there but there's no separate DB that i found for custom stuff and since i don't understand how it's converted in import/export i cannot even do it that way.

Just killed Yogg-Saron in Ulduar-there was no loot on the body, just a chest at the entrance to his room. Checking Wowhead, all loot now shows up in the chest including Mim's Head (as of 8.0 according to a poster.). Rarity didn't do an attempt annouce when I killed Yogg nor when I opened the chest. Could you update when you have a chance? Thank you!

Thx you a lot!
Today release 8.1.5 added new "Raiding with Leashes VI: Pets of Pandaria". Would be nice see it in tracking :) Of cource if u have some time.
About expeditions - why you think what your tracking is incorrect? From 8.1 blizz change system of loot and you can looted item even if you didn't kill themed mob (drop count from all mobs on island). Yes, some mobs doesn't meet in one expedition, but it much better then it not tracking at all.
I think its too hard add tracking from meeting mobs that you see during expedition, because you cant explore full island and meet all mobs and drop list not be full.
In reply to tpajiu:
The inaccuracy stems from the fact that the items can only drop when a specific type of enemy is encountered. Detecting that seems virtually impossible, hence my reservations. As it stands, Rarity will simply count the number of expeditions completed... which is as good as it gets, I reckon. It's simply wrong and entirely inaccurate, though it's arguably better than nothing indeed.
The RWL pets should be available in the next release version. I've added them right away, but figuring out drop chances and especially the bonus roll question took basically all week.
I re downloaded this addon today and was wondering is there an option to show the item type next to the name or something since when i hover over some bosses i'm not sure if its showing me a mount or a toy or even a pet
