Rarity
NEW: Rarity now has a Discord server!
If you're interested in following the development process or contributing, you should also check out the official GitHub repository. We're always in need of more hands to help us make the addon better!
Rarity tracks how many times you've tried to obtain various rare items like mounts, battle pets, and toys. It will tell you how likely you are to obtain the item, track how long you've been farming for it, and tell you how lucky you've been so far. Although it's mostly used for mounts, battle pets, and toys, it supports pretty much any item, including profession patterns, archaeology projects, and more.

Out of the box, Rarity includes support for every single mount, battle pet, and toy in the game which require some time to farm. It also includes support for some mount-related items like Skyshard, Primal Egg, and Giant Dinosaur Bone. It'll even notice if you mouseover a Mysterious Camel Figurine, plus lots of other stuff. Rarity factors in the size of a typical group when determining probabilities, and can also tell you if you've killed various bosses this week (or day). Holiday just started, and you didn't notice? Rarity will give you a helpful reminder to run those holiday dungeons or daily quests if you still need an item from them.
If Rarity doesn't track something you want to track, you can add it yourself! Just about everything is user configurable.
Curious what math is going on behind the scenes? The author of Bunny Hunter created the original algorithms. He wrote an article about it here. Your chance to obtain an item doesn't increase as you farm it; Rarity is just telling you how lucky you've been so far. It can be remarkably cathartic to see a progress bar move up as you spend hours upon hours trying for that Disgusting Oozeling.
Main features
- Rarity is primarily an LDB feed with a large tooltip. It can function as either a mini-map icon (you have to turn this on in the options), or as a standard LDB feed (use a display like Fortress, Button Bin, Titan Panel, or Chocolate Bar).
- Provides a progress bar, which you can toggle by clicking the icon or feed label.
- Adds info to NPC and item tooltips, showing you if it drops or contains something that Rarity tracks. Rare mobs with a guaranteed drop show which item they drop and if you've defeated them yet.
- Includes full source info, telling you how to obtain everything Rarity tracks.
Other features
- Share packs of items with other users
- Can automatically add waypoints to TomTom for certain items
- Uses statistics whenever possible to keep track of attempts
- Breaks your farming down by session, day, week, and month
- Looks at your instance locks to see if you've defeated various bosses recently
- Reminds you if you need to farm a holiday dungeon or daily quest, and hides holiday items that aren't available right now
- Supports bonus coin rolls
- Automatically screenshots when you obtain an item
- Keeps track of rare achievements like Frostbitten and Glorious
- You can add your own items to track
- Lets you modify your attempt count without having to edit saved variables
- Automatically imports data from Bunny Hunter if you're switching
Slash Commands
Simply typing /rarity should open the options menu (unless disabled).
For troubleshooting issues:
- /rarity dump displays the most recent debug log entries (even if the debug mode is disabled)
- /rarity validate checks the consistency of your item database, including custom items (experimental)

I noticed that the item id for The pumpkin that can contain the headless horsemen mount has changed. So Rarity doesnt count anymore and I cant edit the settings or make a new count because the item already excist ... Need help :-)
You can edit the Options_Defaults.lua. The Horseman's Reins are in line 196.
I've just released Rarity for the 6.0.2 client (it also works on the current 5.4.8 client). It may have a few rough edges still, but in general it's a solid release for Warlords of Draenor and beyond.
Right now, Rarity doesn't have any new mounts or battle pets for Warlords of Draenor. I haven't found any new mounts yet in the expansion that have a chance to drop (correct me if I'm wrong!), and battle pets usually take a few weeks to add after a patch comes out. Your help is much appreciated, as always.
Enjoy the update, and keep on hunting those rares! Let me know in the comments or with a support ticket (click here) if you run into any difficulties.
Currently killing the guys who drop Time Locked Box, and rarity is no longer tracking how many people you killed before looted, so it just counts how many times you looted something, even when you AoE loot.
This was tracking correctly pre 6.0.2 you think this will be fixed?

Rarity only counts attempts at death for bosses and any other thing that can be counted via Statistics. Zone-wide drops and drops from non-boss NPCs are counted when you loot them, and always have been. So Time Locked Box is working as intended. :)
I swear on me mum when I was farming Skyshard it would count all the mobs I looted during AoE loot rather than just that one loot. Like it would pop up 5 times at once everytime I looted it. IDK what was going on but that's why I was selling your addon to everyone since it actually worked like that unlike BunnyHunter which just counted each loot rather than how many mobs were in that AoE loot.
Rarity does count AOE loots properly for any items that it would apply to, such as Skyshard and Time-Locked Box. So I'm confused. Your original comment was complaining that Rarity didn't track deaths, but instead counted loots. But loots are what Rarity is supposed to count in the case of Time-Locked Box, and AOE loots are definitely working.
What are you having an issue with? As far as I know, and I've tested extensively, Rarity is working as intended for Skyshard and Time-Locked Box. Please let me know if you experience an issue.
[Edit] I just tested and I can confirm that AOE looting is working for Time-Locked Box.
Seems to have fixed itself, might have been something on blizzard's side as I don't think I've updated rarity between the times where it was and wasn't working properly.
i am using the r250 release version which was the latest one until last few days. Good to know it's been fixed :)
Was unable to find Reins of the Thundering Onyx Cloud Serpent in the Mounts list, but it was being tracked. After a lot of digging found that there is an error in the Options_Defaults LUA file.
Line 151 has "Reins of the Drake of the North Wind" in the second part instead of "Reins of the Thundering Onyx Cloud Serpent".
Changed that and it now shows up correctly. I can now change the number of kills :)
You must be using an older build of Rarity. The current build doesn't have this problem, so I must have caught it at some point.
Is there an easy way to disable tracking of all companion pets? I'd rather not go through all of them untracking them!
Thanks!
There isn't a way to turn off tracking for a group, but you can collapse the group by clicking on the header in the tooltip. That's what I do for companions. Leaving tracking on won't do any harm and might be helpful (I've been known to accidentally attempt some pets, especially on Timeless Isle, and it's nice to know when it happens).
Cool; that works nicely! Thanks.
Is there a way to sync the counter if you have reinstalled Rarity?
Rarity will automatically update attempt counts for anything that can be tracked via a statistic. For other items, there's no way for it to know.
@Allara
Yeah, that was actually my problem. For some reason, random characters were set to their own individual accounts. So I did my own math and just manually did the numbers and combined them all.
@Lyssinna
I'll have to investigate further on my end to see if I can reproduce. I personally don't use cross-character tracking so I can't verify if it works off the top of my head right now. You might want to check the Profile options to verify it's set to Default, just in case.
