Rarity
NEW:
- Support for Cataclysm Classic (experimental)
- Rarity now has a Discord server!
If you're interested in following the development process or contributing, you should also check out the official GitHub repository. We're always in need of more hands to help us make the addon better!
Rarity tracks how many times you've tried to obtain various rare items like mounts, battle pets, and toys. It will tell you how likely you are to obtain the item, track how long you've been farming for it, and tell you how lucky you've been so far. Although it's mostly used for mounts, battle pets, and toys, it supports pretty much any item, including profession patterns, archaeology projects, and more.

Out of the box, Rarity includes support for every single mount, battle pet, and toy in the game which require some time to farm. It also includes support for some mount-related items like Skyshard, Primal Egg, and Giant Dinosaur Bone. It'll even notice if you mouseover a Mysterious Camel Figurine, plus lots of other stuff. Rarity factors in the size of a typical group when determining probabilities, and can also tell you if you've killed various bosses this week (or day). Holiday just started, and you didn't notice? Rarity will give you a helpful reminder to run those holiday dungeons or daily quests if you still need an item from them.
If Rarity doesn't track something you want to track, you can add it yourself! Just about everything is user configurable.
Curious what math is going on behind the scenes? The author of Bunny Hunter created the original algorithms. He wrote an article about it here. Your chance to obtain an item doesn't increase as you farm it; Rarity is just telling you how lucky you've been so far. It can be remarkably cathartic to see a progress bar move up as you spend hours upon hours trying for that Disgusting Oozeling.
Main features
- Rarity is primarily an LDB feed with a large tooltip. It can function as either a mini-map icon (you have to turn this on in the options), or as a standard LDB feed (use a display like Fortress, Button Bin, Titan Panel, or Chocolate Bar).
- Provides a progress bar, which you can toggle by clicking the icon or feed label.
- Adds info to NPC and item tooltips, showing you if it drops or contains something that Rarity tracks. Rare mobs with a guaranteed drop show which item they drop and if you've defeated them yet.
- Includes full source info, telling you how to obtain everything Rarity tracks.
Other features
- Share packs of items with other users
- Can automatically add waypoints to TomTom for certain items
- Uses statistics whenever possible to keep track of attempts
- Breaks your farming down by session, day, week, and month
- Looks at your instance locks to see if you've defeated various bosses recently
- Reminds you if you need to farm a holiday dungeon or daily quest, and hides holiday items that aren't available right now
- Supports bonus coin rolls
- Automatically screenshots when you obtain an item
- Keeps track of rare achievements like Frostbitten and Glorious
- You can add your own items to track
- Lets you modify your attempt count without having to edit saved variables
- Automatically imports data from Bunny Hunter if you're switching
Slash Commands
Simply typing /rarity should open the options menu (unless disabled).
For troubleshooting issues:
- /rarity dump displays the most recent debug log entries (even if the debug mode is disabled)
- /rarity validate checks the consistency of your item database, including custom items (experimental)

Strange bug:
After looting Zovaal's Vault for the 4th time (haven't yet gotten the Jailer's Cage toy), while still in the Rift, I go and loot a Stolen Anima Vessel in the Zovaal's Cauldron area, and the attempt count for Jailer's Cage increments by 1 again, even though that toy can't drop from that container. When I go to loot another Stolen Anima Vessel (in southern Beastwarrens), Jailer's Cage attempt count does *not* increment again.
In reply to gaviin1242:
Sorry, didn't see this comment before and Curse didn't send a notification :)
I would assume that this problem is due to how Rarity detects looting game objects: Because Blizzard doesn't provide a proper way of doing this, we can only detect that you looted the vessel by checking the GameTooltip when you mouse-over the object.
That is of course far from reliable and could cause missed or duplicate attempts, but unfortunately there's no way to fix these problems. If you make sure the cursor hovered over the object long enough to actually display the tooltip, it should happen only rarely or ideally never, though that's the best we can do really.
Basically, Rarity needs to "see" that the object you clicked is not one we want to track, so the duplicate attempts likely come from the vessel being mistaken for the object you clicked on previously because the game didn't have time to render the tooltip before you had moved on already and so Rarity thought it was another object. That's what I'd guess based on your description, anyway.
Sorry one more thing... the Skull of Corruption toy that drops from Gul'dan in Nighthold only drops for Demon Hunters, yet the counter will increment for any class that kills him. Wondering if there's a way to prevent that and only add to the attempts count if playing a DH.
In reply to gaviin1242:
I think this is a known problem, caused by the detection using kill statistics overriding the class requirements: https://github.com/WowRarity/Rarity/issues/182
Unfortunately this means it can't easily be fixed, if at all... or at least not with the current architecture, and without severe risk of breaking lots of things that I'd rather not touch.
One other bug I've noticed is occasionally when logging in, I'll get an achievement toast about finding a Skyshard. It may be because I have two Skyshards sitting in my bags, but obviously it still shouldn't be triggering the "found" notice. And it happens so randomly that I can't figure out the cause. I'll go weeks without it happening, and then all of a sudden it will happen again.
In reply to gaviin1242:
Thanks, but the detection for collectible items (like Shyshards) is very rudimentary. Basically, when you have one of the items in your inventory the amount is counted, and compared to whatever amount you previously had.
It's possible logging in/the items "appearing out of thin air" to Rarity could cause some problems here as it assumes you just found them and doesn't know where, but I don't see a good way to troubleshoot this currently.
In reply to gaviin1242:
Come to think of it, I may have two Skyshards lying around somewhere so perhaps I can try to force the problem to manifest. Status: https://github.com/WowRarity/Rarity/issues/418
Is there a way to get Rarity to not blink my screen when a guildmate encounters a rare?
In reply to EricStratton:
Blink your screen? Rarity doesn't interact with your guild in any way, as far as I know.
In reply to Cakechart:
Doh, I'm terribly sorry! It's SilverDragon doing that, not Rarity.
I noticed that a number of items in the "Toys & Items" section that lead to mounts/pets/toys remain on the tracking popup even if you already have them. Primal Egg, Fel-Spotted Egg, All-Seeing Left Eye, All-Seeing Right Eye, and Nightwreathed Egg are the ones that stand out to me.
I think I got some of these prior to installing Rarity, which may be why they didn't trigger and fall off the list (though I know I have gotten several Primal Eggs since then and I think a Nightwreathed Egg or two, and those never seems to fall off).
I'm wondering if it would be helpful and possible to automatically hide them if the resulting collectibles are all acquired. Just a thought. Thanks.
In reply to gaviin1242:
Those items don't have statistics to rely on and as such can only be detected as you find them (i.e., not retroactively). They aren't linked to the collectible item itself in any way inside Rarity's database, but I suppose we could try to detect when they've been found based on another item.
I can't say how much work that'll take or if I even will get around to doing this anytime soon (or ever), but here's the issue status: https://github.com/WowRarity/Rarity/issues/417
if i just install the addon any chance to count the attempts before that?
In reply to oxed:
Items that use Blizzard's statistics will be counted retroactively. Everything else unfortunately can't :(
Achievements window stopped popping up after receiving an item. There is a sound notification. The picture is taken. But there is no more achievement window.
In reply to vova15:
What item did you receive? There were some changes for patch 9.1, but as far as I know the popup was only updated in its appearance and should still work.
Does it show if you prompt it manually by typing
in your chat window? If not, are there any errors (enable script errors if you haven't)?
Can't really do more without additional info, it's definitely working for me (and many others, judging by screenshots I've seen).

In version "Rarity-r710-alpha-4" a window pops up.![](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/803935862298902537/867448759344300072/2021-07-21_19-31-39.png)
Everything is fine in the chat.
But in the latest version of "Rarity-r710-release-5"
the window stopped popping up. Otherwise, just like chatting, sound and photo done everything works.
Changed to English. Everything works for the version "Rarity-r710-release-5" So the problem is in the Russian version of the game.
