Rarity
NEW:
- Rarity now has a Discord server!
If you're interested in following the development process or contributing, you should also check out the official GitHub repository. We're always in need of more hands to help us make the addon better!
Rarity tracks how many times you've tried to obtain various rare items like mounts, battle pets, and toys. It will tell you how likely you are to obtain the item, track how long you've been farming for it, and tell you how lucky you've been so far. Although it's mostly used for mounts, battle pets, and toys, it supports pretty much any item, including profession patterns, archaeology projects, and more.

Out of the box, Rarity includes support for every single mount, battle pet, and toy in the game which require some time to farm. It also includes support for some mount-related items like Skyshard, Primal Egg, and Giant Dinosaur Bone. It'll even notice if you mouseover a Mysterious Camel Figurine, plus lots of other stuff. Rarity factors in the size of a typical group when determining probabilities, and can also tell you if you've killed various bosses this week (or day). Holiday just started, and you didn't notice? Rarity will give you a helpful reminder to run those holiday dungeons or daily quests if you still need an item from them.
If Rarity doesn't track something you want to track, you can add it yourself! Just about everything is user configurable.
Curious what math is going on behind the scenes? The author of Bunny Hunter created the original algorithms. He wrote an article about it here. Your chance to obtain an item doesn't increase as you farm it; Rarity is just telling you how lucky you've been so far. It can be remarkably cathartic to see a progress bar move up as you spend hours upon hours trying for that Disgusting Oozeling.
Main features
- Rarity is primarily an LDB feed with a large tooltip. It can function as either a mini-map icon (you have to turn this on in the options), or as a standard LDB feed (use a display like Fortress, Button Bin, Titan Panel, or Chocolate Bar).
- Provides a progress bar, which you can toggle by clicking the icon or feed label.
- Adds info to NPC and item tooltips, showing you if it drops or contains something that Rarity tracks. Rare mobs with a guaranteed drop show which item they drop and if you've defeated them yet.
- Includes full source info, telling you how to obtain everything Rarity tracks.
Other features
- Share packs of items with other users
- Can automatically add waypoints to TomTom for certain items
- Uses statistics whenever possible to keep track of attempts
- Breaks your farming down by session, day, week, and month
- Looks at your instance locks to see if you've defeated various bosses recently
- Reminds you if you need to farm a holiday dungeon or daily quest, and hides holiday items that aren't available right now
- Supports bonus coin rolls
- Automatically screenshots when you obtain an item
- Keeps track of rare achievements like Frostbitten and Glorious
- You can add your own items to track
- Lets you modify your attempt count without having to edit saved variables
- Automatically imports data from Bunny Hunter if you're switching
Slash Commands
Simply typing /rarity should open the options menu (unless disabled).
For troubleshooting issues:
- /rarity dump displays the most recent debug log entries (even if the debug mode is disabled)
- /rarity validate checks the consistency of your item database, including custom items (experimental)

In reply to Cakechart:
Could an addon collect that data from Wowhead?
Like RarityRaider does?
In reply to weltallica:
That website doesn't appear to be using wowhead data? Addons can't automatically collect data from wowhead, or in fact any other website. You'd have to manually enter it.
Is it possible to merge attempt data between computers without manually adjusting the attempt number of every item?
Context: I was away for several months and only played on a laptop. Now I'm back to playing on my PC, but of course the Rarity attempts for anything I farmed while on the laptop aren't showing up on the PC. I'd really like to add the two together, but I'm not sure how to do that without doing it manually by going back and forth between the game on the laptop and the PC.
Alternatively if I could figure out where attempt data is stored I could just open the .lua file and change it manually from there, but I don't know where to find that, if it's possible.
I checked the FAQ but I don't see a solution for this. Thanks!
In reply to MystbornGames:
Hi, the only way would be to edit the Rarity.lua file in your client's SavedVariables folder. I could come up with a way to merge databases automatically, but in your case it's likely easier to just add the attempts manually since it's a one-time thing.
In reply to Cakechart:
Thank you, I'll do that! Having that function in the future would be fantastic. I'm sure there are loads of people who play on different machines. But only when/if you have time and want to do it. Always appreciate this mod!
In reply to MystbornGames:
I've logged an issue for this, although it won't realistically happen anytime soon.

In reply to Cakechart:
hi i cant write a comment so i try reply here hoping all can read and help. this addon say need 77 attempts for obtain blue proto drake from skadi. but i have kill him 361 times and still no mount.. anyone know why?
Skyshard and Zan-Tien Lasso, I cannot get the addon to hide it from tooltips in VOEB. I have Ivory Mount and I don't care about skyshard, how can I hide them? Untracked both item, nothing is ticked. In General I ticked "hide obtained items" to no avail. Have I missed anything?
In reply to reirebecca:
Which window are you referring to? If an item isn't tracked it shouldn't appear in the main window (the one that opens when you hover the mini map button), but I think it's still displayed on the game tooltip (when you hover over units).
After extensive trial and error testing, I have worked out that this addon is blocking the games ability to auto-generate auto-accept groups (action failed due to addon error) for e.g. world bosses and eltie WQ's which is HUGELY annoying. Addon disabled until dev fix.
In reply to notanotherforumname:
Upon your report I've checked whether there could be leaked globals, and found only one instance (which should be fixed in r712-release-3). If this doesn't resolve your issue I'll need more information, as there's no way that I can see for Rarity to affect the default UI otherwise.
Do you have a taint log showing that Rarity does this, and more importantly where it's located? See https://www.townlong-yak.com/taint.log/ as well as https://www.townlong-yak.com/taint.log/about.html for more information.
In reply to Cakechart:
Never heard of a taint log. I've enabled it now and will see what it comes back with.
In reply to notanotherforumname:
"Taint log" just sounds all wrong.
It's not working for me atm. It will not display the list of mounts when hovering over the addons minimap button for it. It then crashes wow for about 30 seconds
In reply to slyness69:
If you mean the game is freezing while trying to load the tooltip, please try changing the sort mode and/or reducing the number of items that is to be displayed (by minimizing some groups or only selecting one expansion, etc.).
Thank You. I can confirm it's fine on my end. Much appreciated. :)
Same here.
In reply to Adrenaliinz:
Should be fixed in the latest release. For details, please see https://github.com/WowRarity/Rarity/issues/424 :)
Sorry if that suggestion has been mentioned before. Is there any way to hide the collected items from the panel that occurs from the minimap icon? Thank you!
In reply to panseit:
Yes, there should be an option to hide items that have already been collected.
