Rarity
NEW:
- Support for Cataclysm Classic (experimental)
- Rarity now has a Discord server!

Rarity tracks how many times you've tried to obtain various rare items like mounts, battle pets, and toys. It will tell you how likely you are to obtain the item, track how long you've been farming for it, and tell you how lucky you've been so far. Although it's mostly used for mounts, battle pets, and toys, it supports pretty much any item, including profession patterns, archaeology projects, and more.

Out of the box, Rarity includes support for every single mount, battle pet, and toy in the game which require some time to farm. It also includes support for some mount-related items like Skyshard, Primal Egg, and Giant Dinosaur Bone. It'll even notice if you mouseover a Mysterious Camel Figurine, plus lots of other stuff. Rarity factors in the size of a typical group when determining probabilities, and can also tell you if you've killed various bosses this week (or day). Holiday just started, and you didn't notice? Rarity will give you a helpful reminder to run those holiday dungeons or daily quests if you still need an item from them.
If Rarity doesn't track something you want to track, you can add it yourself! Just about everything is user configurable.
Curious what math is going on behind the scenes? The author of Bunny Hunter created the original algorithms. He wrote an article about it here. Your chance to obtain an item doesn't increase as you farm it; Rarity is just telling you how lucky you've been so far. It can be remarkably cathartic to see a progress bar move up as you spend hours upon hours trying for that Disgusting Oozeling.
Main features
- Rarity is primarily an LDB feed with a large tooltip. It can function as either a mini-map icon (you have to turn this on in the options), or as a standard LDB feed (use a display like Fortress, Button Bin, Titan Panel, or Chocolate Bar).
- Provides a progress bar, which you can toggle by clicking the icon or feed label.
- Adds info to NPC and item tooltips, showing you if it drops or contains something that Rarity tracks. Rare mobs with a guaranteed drop show which item they drop and if you've defeated them yet.
- Includes full source info, telling you how to obtain everything Rarity tracks.
Other features
- Share packs of items with other users
- Can automatically add waypoints to TomTom for certain items
- Uses statistics whenever possible to keep track of attempts
- Breaks your farming down by session, day, week, and month
- Looks at your instance locks to see if you've defeated various bosses recently
- Reminds you if you need to farm a holiday dungeon or daily quest, and hides holiday items that aren't available right now
- Supports bonus coin rolls
- Automatically screenshots when you obtain an item
- Keeps track of rare achievements like Frostbitten and Glorious
- You can add your own items to track
- Lets you modify your attempt count without having to edit saved variables
- Automatically imports data from Bunny Hunter if you're switching
Slash Commands
Simply typing /rarity should open the options menu (unless disabled).
For troubleshooting issues:
- /rarity dump displays the most recent debug log entries (even if the debug mode is disabled)
- /rarity validate checks the consistency of your item database, including custom items (experimental)

Those of you experiencing hangs/crashes when interacting with the Rarity tooltip: can you download the latest alpha (r533) from here: http://www.wowace.com/addons/rarity/files/1054-r533/
Let me know if this fixes the problem.
Seems to be doing just fine so far, but I'll report back if I get hangs again. o7
Hello friend. I have a request. Can you add the move ability to the "tooltip"? The default is in the right-hand corner, but at low resolution is terribly inconvenient. I'd like to move the window. I would be very grateful. Regards!
Do you mean Rarity's big main tooltip? It hangs off either your mini-map icon or your LDB feed. To control the position of the tooltip, you'll actually need to go into your LDB add-on to modify its behavior. I don't control the position, I don't think (although let me double check that, my memory may be faulty).
So I looked into this and if you want to move the tooltip, you need to move either the icon or the LDB feed. Rarity just hangs the tooltip off one of those locations and fits it on-screen.
I have a question about the progress bar?
Is it possible to have it grow up instead of down when there are multiple drop options? Its not a big deal, but it is something that's been slowly annoying me xD
Thanks!
I'll look into this.
I'm having a problem where if I attempt to interact with the Rarity tooltip in any way that involves clicking, 9 times out of 10 it just makes WoW hang indefinitely, so that I have to kill it with task manager and reopen it. Let me know if there are logs somewhere that would help diagnose this.
Edit: Scratch that, now it's happening whenever I mouseover the Rarity icon in my Titan Panel.
This is a recently uncovered issue with some people's clients (it depends on how many items you have already collected). I'll be looking into this over the next week. It may be complicated. Thanks for your patience, and sorry about the issue! Not sure what Blizzard changed here. They really like to break things in expansions.
I should also add that every time it hangs and I have to force quit WoW, the Rarity counter for whatever I was last tracking has reset to what it was the last time I safely logged off, just FYI. But I'm glad you're aware of it, and I hope you get it sorted out, because it's a great addon!
Yeah, that's normal when WoW crashes or is terminated. It doesn't get a chance to save out all the add-on data in memory, so it reverts back to what it was.
This is a very high priority for me, just so everyone knows. I will probably have to do a bunch of additional profiling to locate the problem, though, so it may take some time.
I'm going to take a look at this, but it may take some time to figure out. I noticed this happening on beta but it didn't seem as bad on live. Hopefully this is fixable.
@XANTHiDE
I am getting this issue aswell. I open the tab on my mini map and my game crashes 50% of the time.
hi there ive been using rarity for a looooooong time, and ive never had any issues.. until now.. if i add it to a LDB display it hangs my WoW and then it crashes.. this happens if i move my mouse over it, and it drops down the display.. so far ive tried it with ninjapanel (yes its outdated, so just a test), titan panel and chocolate bar.. all with the same result.. i have tried uninstalling and reinstalling multiple times.. ive even made sure that ive deleted every single file belonging to Rarity.. because WoW crashes, i apparently dont get any errors in BugSack.. anyone else with this issue?? :D
I received this error when I picked up a toy that I did not have yet:

I guess I should add, the toy in question is the "Salyin Battle Banner" from the Salyin Warscout rare.
Hey Spiderkeg! That error was fixed in the build yesterday. Please update.
Hi, great addon and I appreciate the work done on it.
I am noticing something a little different after the update and I dont know if it is a setting or a bug, but I am killing multiple mobs for a pet farm but it is only counting as 1 kill per loot. So say I kill 15 mobs but only loot once because they are near by, I only get credit for one kill. I know it was previously setup that if I killed 15 and looted once I still got credit for 15 different mobs I looted. Is this a settings issue or a possible bug?
Thanks again!
I'm thinking this could be related to the change to LOOT_READY instead of LOOT_OPEN. What item are you farming? I haven't tested AOE loot since that change—I may need to change it back. The LOOT_READY event is undocumented so I'm not sure what side effects it has.
I am farming the black tabby cat, so I have been killing engineers prior to the patch and after. Before it would count each body looted now it is all one per group loot. Thanks for taking the time to look into it.
I've reproduced the issue. AOE looting doesn't work in 7.0 no matter which loot event I use. I will spend more time investigating this tomorrow. I have no idea why Blizzard would break this, or how. /sigh
