Rarity
NEW: Rarity now has a Discord server!
If you're interested in following the development process or contributing, you should also check out the official GitHub repository. We're always in need of more hands to help us make the addon better!
Rarity tracks how many times you've tried to obtain various rare items like mounts, battle pets, and toys. It will tell you how likely you are to obtain the item, track how long you've been farming for it, and tell you how lucky you've been so far. Although it's mostly used for mounts, battle pets, and toys, it supports pretty much any item, including profession patterns, archaeology projects, and more.

Out of the box, Rarity includes support for every single mount, battle pet, and toy in the game which require some time to farm. It also includes support for some mount-related items like Skyshard, Primal Egg, and Giant Dinosaur Bone. It'll even notice if you mouseover a Mysterious Camel Figurine, plus lots of other stuff. Rarity factors in the size of a typical group when determining probabilities, and can also tell you if you've killed various bosses this week (or day). Holiday just started, and you didn't notice? Rarity will give you a helpful reminder to run those holiday dungeons or daily quests if you still need an item from them.
If Rarity doesn't track something you want to track, you can add it yourself! Just about everything is user configurable.
Curious what math is going on behind the scenes? The author of Bunny Hunter created the original algorithms. He wrote an article about it here. Your chance to obtain an item doesn't increase as you farm it; Rarity is just telling you how lucky you've been so far. It can be remarkably cathartic to see a progress bar move up as you spend hours upon hours trying for that Disgusting Oozeling.
Main features
- Rarity is primarily an LDB feed with a large tooltip. It can function as either a mini-map icon (you have to turn this on in the options), or as a standard LDB feed (use a display like Fortress, Button Bin, Titan Panel, or Chocolate Bar).
- Provides a progress bar, which you can toggle by clicking the icon or feed label.
- Adds info to NPC and item tooltips, showing you if it drops or contains something that Rarity tracks. Rare mobs with a guaranteed drop show which item they drop and if you've defeated them yet.
- Includes full source info, telling you how to obtain everything Rarity tracks.
Other features
- Share packs of items with other users
- Can automatically add waypoints to TomTom for certain items
- Uses statistics whenever possible to keep track of attempts
- Breaks your farming down by session, day, week, and month
- Looks at your instance locks to see if you've defeated various bosses recently
- Reminds you if you need to farm a holiday dungeon or daily quest, and hides holiday items that aren't available right now
- Supports bonus coin rolls
- Automatically screenshots when you obtain an item
- Keeps track of rare achievements like Frostbitten and Glorious
- You can add your own items to track
- Lets you modify your attempt count without having to edit saved variables
- Automatically imports data from Bunny Hunter if you're switching
Slash Commands
Simply typing /rarity should open the options menu (unless disabled).
For troubleshooting issues:
- /rarity dump displays the most recent debug log entries (even if the debug mode is disabled)
- /rarity validate checks the consistency of your item database, including custom items (experimental)

I think I may have found the problem, actually. Try installing r347 and let me know if it helped.
@Allara
Nice ;)
And the tooltip thing is really, really nice to. I noticed it and I think it's a nice improvement.
I'm using Fortress as well, so I guess that isn't the problem. Thanks!
Could those of you that had performance issues post what LDB display you're using? I strongly suspect it was actually the display's fault. If you weren't using a display, but were using the Rarity minimap icon, that's helpful to know too.
Fortress v1.1.5, now that I look at it I don't think this has been updated since 2010?
Toys will likely be coming in the future, but they are my third priority. Mounts always get my attention first, followed by battle pets. The initial gathering of toy data will be a lot of work so I'm waiting until I have the time. Although most of the 100% drops in WoD are already in. (They aren't in the main Rarity tooltip because there's nothing to track. Instead, when you mouse over the mob in the world, Rarity tells you what it drops and if you already defeated it once.)
I'm not able to reproduce the performance issues reported by several people here, so I have to just try some stuff to see if it helps, and ask you guys to test. I've just pushed out an alpha that attempts to resolve the issue. It's available here: http://www.wowace.com/addons/rarity/files/659-r336/
Can some of you guys install this alpha build and see if it fixes the issue?
Hello. Tested R336. I can still observe the addon's effect on the game every ~10sec (or 20, not measuring, but it is constant). But instead of the interface freeze, it now only does a momentary 10% FPS drop.
For me, personally, 10% does not cause gameplay issue anymore, i get no "Freezes", game plays smoothly, but maybe for someone with a lesser hardware configuration?
FPS drop was ~60% on previous Rarity version. for comparison
Is it as simple as logging in, staring at a wall without doing anything else (including not interacting with the Rarity tooltip), and the performance issue occurs? That's what I tried and it doesn't happen.
Rarity doesn't do anything every 10 seconds (I verified this today), so I'm at a loss as to what could be happening. It only responds to things you do in the world, like looting/killing.
My computer has 0% FPS drop, it stays maxed out on framerate at all times, so I have to guess that maybe your computer is significantly slower than mine, or maybe you were doing something I wasn't.
Thanks for testing! Hopefully this is good enough for people.
I had the same problems as mentioned by various users. Tried different addons that I had recently updated, and finally singled out Rarity as the cause.
All the lag and FPS losses occured when I was just at sumsong ranch doing farming on every character. Only things I killed were the vermin from farming. It was happening when clicking on farm plots, crafting items, and just standing still.
Tried the new alpha you posted and it is definitely much much better. No stuttering/fps losses when standing around or doing normal activities. Little bit of a fps loss (~6-8) when looting 3+ mobs at a time in the Blasted Lands.
The slight FPS drop when looting is normal, Rarity does have to do some work during that time unfortunately. I've tried to keep it as minimal as possible (it uses fast hash lookups and so on). It should only happen when you loot a mob that Rarity is monitoring.
Newer version seems fine.
I take it back, the framerate drop on Time-Locked Box is way more than I expect. I'll have to look into this.
@Allara
Checked again and found it. it is not translated so missed it earlier.
The real issue was that a friend offered me one and this pet is not flagged as repeatable so it didn't show when I opened gifts after that.
Thanks for your quick answer and all the great work btw
On a side note, I think you should consider adding toys to the list. I think most of them have a 100% drop rate and for the other ones (orb of deception, dices, etc) it may be tricky to evaluate the drop rate, but I'm pretty sure a lot of people will really enjoy the addition.
Updated this morning and now theres a progress bar on my screen, checked options and cant see any way to hide/remove. Id like it gone :)
Click the Rarity icon. Nothing about the update caused the progress bar to appear.
@Khisanth
Sky Bo was not removed.
Also getting this on Windows 7, so not just a Mac problem.
Rolled back to r318 and it went away.
Then tried r325, r322, r321 and r320 alphas. Seems to have been introducded in r321.
I am also getting super bad fps drops all the time (on win 7)

I am having this too, random fps drops (from normally 100+ to <20) every 10 seconds. checked all my recently updated addons and it was caused by rarity. Downgrading to r318-release fixed the issue.
