What is it?
A fairly simple but very configurable mod that adds damage, heals, and events (dodge, parry, windfury, etc...) as scrolling text above you character model, much like what already happens above your target. This makes it so you do not have to watch (or use) your regular combat chat window and gives it a "Final Fantasy" feel.
Why use 5.0 over WoW's new built in Floating Combat Text ? - SCT 5.0 is a complete rewrite of the mod from the ground up. Its is now based in the Ace2 framework and rewitten with more performance in mind. On top of that, it offers features far above and beyond what WoW's FCT can do. FCT is great if you just need a lightweight SCT with limited options, but using SCT's new Lightmode can get you the same performance with almost all of SCT's normal features.
What can it do?
- Damage messages
- Heals (incoming and outgoing) and Overhealing (with healer ID's), with filtering for small heals.
- Spell Damage/Resists and Damage Type
- All "Miss" events (dodge, block, immune, etc...)
- Custom Colors for all text events
- Config file to setup custom events (self and target), capture data, and display it.
- Debuff/Buff gain and loss Messages
- Low Health and Mana Warnings with values, and optional sounds
- Rage/Mana/Energy Gains
- Enter and Leave Combat Messages
- Rogue Combo Points, 5 CP Alert Message
- Class Skill alerts (Execute, Overpower, CounterAttack, etc...)
- Honor, Reputation, Skill Gain
- Eight Animation Types (Verticle, Rainbow, Horizontal, Angled Down, Angled Up, Sprinkler, Curved HUD, Angled HUD)
- Four Fonts
- Two seperate Animation frames, each with their own settings. Assign any Event to either.
- Ability to flag any event as critical or as a text messages
- Sliders for text size, opacity, animation speed, movement speed, and on screen placement (with custom editbox)
- Lightmode, for when you care most about performance (at the loss of a few features).
- Now Based in Ace2.
- CTMod, MyAddons, Cosmos, Cosmos2 support
- Settings saved per character by default, but supports all Ace2 Profiles
- Load/Delete settings from another character. Load built in Profiles.
- Localized to work in almost all WoW clients.
How do I use it?
First unzip it into your interface\addons directory. For more info on installing, please read install.txt. Now just run WoW and once logged in, type /sctmenu to get the options screen.
SCT_EVENT_CONFIG.LUA is used to setup custom message events. Please open up the file (notepad, etc...) and read the opening section to understand how to use it all. PLEASE NOTE - THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT FILE IN SCT. IF YOU DON'T READ IT AND USE IT, THEN YOU ARE MISSING OUT ON A TON OF WHAT SCT HAS TO OFFER IN CUSTOMIZATION
/sctdisplay is used to create your own custom messages. Useage: /sctdisplay 'message' red(0-10) green(0-10) blue(0-10) Example: /sctdisplay 'Heal Me' 10 0 0 - This will display 'Heal Me' in bright red

My custom event doesn't work. What's wrong? - Make sure you have the text exactly right, punctuation and capitalization matters. If you need help learning how to capture data, please see the examples or try this site http://lua-users.org/wiki/PatternsTutorial. If its still not working, please read about SCT_Event_Debug and SCT_Event_List in the bottom half of SCT_EVENT_CONFIG.LUA to learn how to add almost any chat event to SCT's search capabilities
How do I change the text for parry, block, etc...? - open up the localiztions.lua file and look for the event you want to change. Then change the text to whatever you like. As of 4.1, you may also now add a custom event for these. As of 5.0 You will get notifications automatically for event specfic skills like Overpower, CounterAttack, etc...
How do I get get text to scroll? I only see numbers! - Make sure the "Show Events as Message" option is unchecked. This is only if you want events to appear as static text (not scrolling/animated)
I don't understand what the 2 frames are for! - Each frame lets you set different features. So you can set frame one using Sprinker animation and Default font, while frame 2 can be using Veritcle animation and Adventure font. You can then assign each event to a specfic frame using the radio buttons next to the events.
There's too many options. Help someone new see how things work! - Try out some of the new built in profiles. While on the options screen, click the "Profiles" button. At the top of the window will be a listing of some default profiles to try out. Maybe you'll fine one you like or it will spark some ideas for you to try.
How do I change the fonts? - You can now select from four fonts on the options page. You can also change the font of message and apply the font to the in game damage font used for your damage (requires relog)
I don't like friendly nameplates on. How do I make my heals appear over who I heal? - Friendly nameplates have to be on in order to show your heals. SCT will turn them on if you turn on the option, but you must manually turn them off if you don't like it (see Target keybindings).
I don't like the new spell icons, how do I turn them off? - There is an option to turn them off under the animation tab.

hey, i've tried the sliding bar that makes the scroll speed faster, however, it's still scrolling the same, slow speed. I've seen in videos people who have had their SCT scroll by fast. That's what I want, otherwise it just becomes a flood of colored messages. Can anyone help me figure out how to make it faster?

What I'd like to request is basically reading the combat log for "Dude123 begins to cast polymorph" and popping it up on screen that it's actually a poly spell being channeled and not something else that looks the same.
You don't really have the time to browse the combat log during a 1.5s cast spell, but sure you might already be able to guess your way to when most CC's are being cast but being 100% sure is an advantage I'd rather not be without. Not sure if you can somehow check if the caster himself is friend or foe but hopefully you can. Otherwise that wouldn't be a real problem.
However, doing it like this for every spell would pretty much spam your screen in larger fights so I've come to the conclusion that it's only really necessary for CC spells like roots, poly, fear etc. If it's not one of those being cast with the same animation you can make an educated guess or actually have time to read the combat log.
I don't really know the limitations of this but I guess having the targets name pop up too is out of the question so I'd suggest the popup message look something like "Dude123: Polymorph".
Also, thanks for creating this extremely necessary addon, PvP wouldn't be the same without it.
Would there be any way of adding a message that says "Execute!" or something along those lines for Warriors, when the target health is below 20%?
Ok, new info after lot's of testing:
When I cast a ranged spell when the spell makes contact with a mob I get no impact animations.
Cast Shadow Bolt, no impact animation... same for almost all spells! Imp's Firebolt, same problem.
Clean install, no mods! Tried on 2 totally different computers, same problem on both!
Any ideas? I’ve tried everything I know to try but nothing makes a difference.
More info: Moonrage (whitescalp and darksoul) (werewolf types) mobs in paticular have this issue (Silverpine area and zones around it), but other Mobs in the same zone work fine!

Hi, I love this mod but I seem to be having an issue with it and I am looking for some help.
Problem:
When I use SCT sometimes the "hit" animations for spells don't trigger. For example, if my imp casts a spell, when the spell animation flys through the air and makes contact with the mob there is no little "explosion" animation. Same goes for lot's of spells from my summons and from me.
But, if I don't use SCT they all trigger and play totally correct. I've tested it many times.
Is there anything I can do to fix this?
Any help is greatly appreciated because I really want to keep using this mod and have my animations in game!

Grayhoof, where are the debuff variables located? I am using a Chinese client (playing in the China open beta) and everything works except debuffs. I am guessing because the mod looks at the combat window for certain debuffs casted on me, and the text is in chinese. So can you tell me how to localize the mod? Or if that is not possible bcause its hard coded, send me a list of the debuffs and ill send you a translation? Thanks. I would prefer you don't plan on modding SCT and releasing it. For your own personal use, playing, and knowledge that's no problem =)
There is a slider in the options page to control speed. I don't think you can adjust the speed of the text based on the camera zoom, because the camera zoom is not dealt with in the UI files at all, its a part of the game engine. The default target text is also only a part of the game engine, not the UI. Not sure want you want to know as far as my plans. I bascially add new features and ideas as people come up with them and as I have time to do them. I'll be releasing a new version sometime soon that will be adding Rogue Combo Points and *possibly* the ability to search for target custom events.
Ok, answered my own question. A crude way to make text go faster is to edit sct.lua and change
alpha = alpha * SCT_Get("ALPHA");
aniData.posY = aniData.posY + step;
to
alpha = alpha * SCT_Get("ALPHA");
aniData.posY = aniData.posY + step + step + step;
This couldnt be too hard to add to a slider of it's own.
So, I thought I was all set... I had my numbers all scrolling at the same speed... then I zoomed out. Turns out numbers over the mob's head appear to move slower (and be smaller) since they're in 3d, while the UI's numbers remain constant. I'm a coder but new to LUA - is there a function for how far out you're zoomed?
Before I go crazy modding this mod, do you have any plans to adjust the speed of the numbers relative to how far out the camera is zoomed?

I would like to second the request for some way of setting off a message when your attack or special attack is dodged by your target.
With the new patch, ability icons now fade out when not in the correct stance to use them (for Warriors). This means I have no easy way of seeing if Overpower is usable anymore. Previously I had a seperate button for it just sitting on my UI which would automatically light up (as designed) when my target dodged an attack or special attack - after the 1.4 patch, the button only lights up when I'm already in Battle Stance.
Yes, I know "dodge" appears over the target's head by default, but it's impossible to see that on a raid. I can't customize its color or anything. Being able to add it as a custom event in SCT would be a huge help to me.
It was an error on my part, its working fine. I had updated the .toc file and I shouldnt have.
Also, Windfury now has to be changed to show up as they changed the text displayed, use:

The new patch seems to have broken this, which sucks as I have come to love this mod. Any chance of getting an update for it so it works again.
Is there any way to show the mana gained from Dark Pact. Life Tapping shows mana gained, but it doesn't show the mana gained from: You drain 150 mana from [petname].
I cant get this to work after todays patch (honor system). Is there a way I can modify it myself, if not, when will you be putting out a newer version? Thanks.
As I mentioned on the offical forums, SCT does not deal with sound in any way. I don't see how it could be the cause of your sound issues, but any additional information you can provide would be helpful. What other mods you have installed, how often it happens, what your SCT settings are, how to reproduce it, etc...
WhiteShark, not sure what the issue is. For me, SCT displays the text before the button is highlighted as usable =) Maybe its a computer performance issue?
I got the below problem today as well... any ideas?
It is a cool mod but everytime I try it, it removes sound effects. When your spell hits the mob, it is supposed to have the animation and sound for the impact. Well, after installing this mod, there is nothing. It is like the spell didn't hit anything, although the dmg is still done. Is there any way to fix this? Am I missing some settings?
Is there anyway to make SCT faster?
For example, i use it to know when I parry so that I can riposte. But I've notice the Riposte button is enabled a second before the parry message pops up. Is there any delay that I can remove for the parry event?
I saw on some PvP videos that their SCT shows the bad stuff enemies cast on you, for example "Shadow Word: Pain", "Hammer of Justice", etc. Does anyone know how to do this, is this custom scripting? If so, could you send me yours, thanks! MUCH appreciated. Email: [email protected]
