Shadowed Unit Frames
SUF focuses on a simple configuration while maintaining the flexibility that most users will care about, preventing unnecessary bloating of the addon that sacrifices performance. While you aren't going to be able to set the health bar to be exactly 3.14 pixels outside of the unit frames, you can change options you actually care about such as bar height, ordering, frame height and so on. To speed up configuration, you can configure multiple units at the same time through the global configuration. For example, if you want to set the height of the Player, Target, Focus and Party frames to 50 then the height of Target's Target, Target's Target of Target, Focus Target to 30 you can easily do this by changing two options instead of having to do it seven times.
However, should you need a little bit of extra configuration do not despair! An advanced option is included that will unlock additional configuration giving finer control over the configuration.
Shadowed Unit Frames in WoW Classic
There is in-development Beta versions available for WoW Classic!
Note that WoW Classic does not provide all the information that you might be used to:
- There is no Focus Frame
- Information about the HP of enemies is not available, and they'll show as 100 HP
- Cast Bars for anyone but the player himself are not available
- Debuffs have no duration information
Some of this data can be restored with additional libraries/addons, but it'll always be guesswork and potentially inaccurate. Shadowed Unit Frames comes bundled with LibClassicDurations for debuff durations. Mob HP can be provided by Real Mob Health, which you need to install manually.
Note on copying your layout from Retail to Classic:
In general you cannot copy your layout between the two versions, since they are quite different, and doing so will result in certain elements exclusive to one version (like Pet Happiness on Classic) not always working properly. There are some provisions in the code that makes copying from Retail to Classic mostly work, use at your own risk - however, never copy a Layout from Classic to Retail, this will absolutely result in the Class-specific power bars and other elements not available on Classic to cease to function.

Anchoring
Are you driven crazy by your party frames not aligning up exactly with your player frames, even if it's only half a pixel off? The anchoring system will let you solve all alignment issues, by allowing you to anchor a frame to another and set a simple offset from the frame it is anchored to, or by manually setting the X/Y position of the frame.
Using the screen shot as an example, if you drag the player frame the other frames will move with the player frame preserving the alignment and spacing. Each frame can still be manually positioned wherever you want, but this gives you a way of easily anchoring and moving frames around without having to use a ruler.
Zone configuration (Disabling options/units by zone type)
Units and modules can be enabled or disabled based on the type of zone you are in. For example, if you want to see party targets and party pets while you are in an arena but nowhere else then you can use the visibility options to enable it only while inside an arena. Modules can also be disabled by zone type, if you want to see party auras while in a raid instance but nowhere else you can disable the module in raid instances only.
Profiles do not have to be swapped and it is all automatic.
Units
Supports unit frames are as follows:
Player: Player, Pet, Pet Target
General: Target, Target of Target, Target of Target of Target, Focus, Focus Target
Party: Party, Party Pets, Party Targets, Party ToT
Raid: Raid, Raid Pet, Main Tank, Main Tank Target, Main Assist, Main Assist Target, Boss, Boss Target, Boss ToT, Main Assist ToT, Main Tank ToT
Arena: Arena, Arena Target, Arena Pets, Arena ToT
Battleground: Battleground, Battleground Target, Battleground Target
Features
- Tags: Includes a simple tagging system that can be customized in virtually any way using Lua, even if something isn't included by default odds are you can make the tags
- Incoming Heals: Supports the Blizzard Events for incoming heal data, no external libraries needed
- Auras: Can be set to only show auras you casted, or can cast on others. Can enlarge auras that you casted, and hide the cooldown ring on the timers of auras you didn't cast as well to make it more obvious which ones you casted and which ones you didn't
- Aura Timers: You will need a mod such as OmniCC to show timers on buffs and debuffs
- Aura Indicators: Display colored squares or icons for certain auras on any unit
- Fader: Fades frames when out of combat and inactive (100% mana/no target)
- Class Power (Eclipse, Holy Power, etc): Supports all of the class power features from Eclipse to Burning Embers.
- Highlighting: Border highlighting of frames based on mousing over them, curable debuffs, aggro or you are targeting/focusing them
- Range Checking: Fades frames out that are out of range of you
- Exportable Layouts: If you have a layout, or your friend has a layout you want to try out you can export/import SUF layouts by going to /suf -> Layout Manager
- Profiles: You can change from any profile to another one without reloading your UI, should you want to use a completely different layout based on zone you can easily switch profiles without hassle
Pretty much all the general unit frame settings are in, health bars, cast bars, power bars, portraits, indicators and so on.
Modules
Basic module support is included, should you be interested in building a module see the documentation on github for more information.

If you enable advanced settings, you can modify the offsets, but it won't let you move them off of the frames themselves.
Curious if there is any way to move the aura's panels? I know the anchors (right, left, etc..), but I was wondering if there was an option I was missing to edit the x and y values of these panels? I've looked through and can't seem to find one.
To be a tad more specific on my issue, I'd like to move the target frames debuff aura panel. Many thanks.
I'll have to look into the weapon enchant issue, I can't imagine why it would have issues.
I don't support other addons that hook into the Blizzard UI, so that's not an actual issue I'd fix.
Likely a Blizzard issue then since I use their aggro system
After a raid night a few things i noticed (nothing major).
Weapon Enchant timers are way off. The icon also doesnt change when you apply a different weapon enchant.
If i put on flametongue weapon as a shaman, it shows 30 minutes. Then a few minutes later its down to 15 or less. The timer often gets removed even with 20+ minutes left.
If i have flametongue weapon on, then switch to Windfury, the icon doesnt change. It still shows flametongue. Very wierd.
The other issue is with raid frames. Right clicking only gives me the option to Set Focus, and Cancel. Should be able to set master looter, mark players, and other addons should be able to link to it, such as Death Note etc.
Also could not get coloring of HP bars on aggro to work with raid frames, or even the border raids frames on aggro.
The wording of rows vs columns is based on how it's displayed, I don't remember the exact criteria I used anymore, but it's based on where it's positioned on the frame, not based on the unit.
There's no issues with changing the sizes or offsets beyond the max limits.
Unit Config > Player > Auras > Debuffs.
In the Buff Config area, you can set "Per Row" and "Max Rows".
In the Debuff section, the options only allow for "Per Column" and "Max Columns".
In every other subclass, Target, Target of Target, Focus, Party, etc etc, the Debuff section has a "Per Row" and "Max Rows".
Is there a reason for the Player section only allows for Columns, and every other category allows for Rows?
Im trying to set up my Player Debuffs to go from top to bottom (in a single column), but its really tough, doing this by columns only. I can kind of get to work, but it starts with Debuff 1 at the very bottom, and goes upwards.
EDIT
Also, would there be any negative impacts to upping the Max Debuff Size from 30 to 60? I can do this myself in the config.lua Line 2031. I just know i would have to reset it each time i update SUF.
Same question as above really, but is it possible to set the Max offsets up to like 1600 or so? I believe its coded at 1000 max currently, which is fine for non wide screen, but it only allows me to move things about half way across on a widescreen.
Offsets are at line 2053 and 2062. Again, i know i can alter these myself and just fix it after each update. But if there isnt a negative impact, any chance to just get these limitations set a bit higher?
EDIT 2
I was able to get the debuffs to go from top to bottom in a single column, by setting the position to Right Top.
I also believe that the Column in the Player > Aura > Debuff section might be a typo? I think its working fine.
Thanks for the compliments!
Didn't see that Blizzard had loosened the restriction on aura canceling, I added it back in.
Many thanks Shadowed. The custom tag works exactly the way i was hoping.
Glad to see you are still around, have been using your mods for years. Everything from SSPVP, DR / CC Tracker, to Purgeatory , Combat Log Fix, and so many more addons that really made the game more enjoyable.
Another question about SUF. I noticed you are not able to right click off buffs. I know Blizzard blocked this a long time back, but they have since reverted that change (kind of). You should now be able to right click off all buffs while not in combat, with the exception of weapon buffs.
I didnt see any tickets for this, and read back a bit to see if anyone has suggested this change. It could be a big time consuming task, something planned in the future, or maybe you were just not aware of the change.
Either way, as a long time Pitbull user, im glad i made the switch to SUF. I was afraid of changing from PB because PB offered so much customization, but has been lacking some important updates such as arena frames, boss frames, etc.
I had no idea SUF was able to do everything PB could, and more.
Thanks again for the awesome addons you provide us with!
You can do it by creating a custom tag with the below code:
Awesome, works great now :D
I do have another question if you have the time. I am trying to make a Text Tag for HP %, colored by hp color (green if full hp, gradienting downward to red when really low hp).
This is easily done in SUF by simply using: [hp:color][perhp]
My question is, is it possible to make a tag, that will hide the HP% when you (or your target, party, raid, etc) are at full HP, and start showing HP% as soon as someone takes damage.
With Pitbull, i was able to come up with:
local cur,max = HP(unit),MaxHP(unit)
local r,g,b = HPColor(cur,max)
if cur < max then
return "|cff%02x%02x%02x%s%%|r",r,g,b,Round(Percent(cur,max),0)
end
This took several hours for me, since i am pretty lost when it comes to LUA, but just using examples i was able to figure it out.
Is something like this possible with SUF as well?
Actually, the option is already in. It's the "Color by reaction on" in the Empty bar settings. It's broken though and doesn't actually work, which I just ifxed.
Sounds fair enough to me, will add it in
Empty Bar - Is it possible to color this bar by hostility? I only see the option to color the HP bar by reaction (hostility).
Coloring the HP by hostility is ok, but that means you are unable to color the HP bar by Health Percent, and i believe the hostility even over class color (enemies).
Would be awesome if you could add in a way to color the blank bar by hostility. This would allow you to see the enemy class color, hostility of players / npcs all in one glance, and keep the option to allow the HP bar to color by % as well.
@Jyces
Strangely enough, it only seems to be doing this on Male Worgens.
For Worgens, it still displays a full body shot as portrait. Can this be changed?
With version 3.4.0 the raid bar on the left hand of screen is acting strange. Its random how it behaves. It use to be off completely (the way I like it).
It doesnt produce an error. Its just there at random times. Most of the time its showing. I dont know the name of that UI element specifically-raid menu? raid bar? Its the element that we select and it comes out of the screen on the left side.
Kelem, 4.2.2 has a bug. rathor 4.2 had a bug where the frame would popup after every game exit cause the settings were lost. 4.2.2 fixed it so settings are saved properly on LOGOUT only. however if you ever choose "exit now" or alt F4 or crash, settings are still not saved, they are only saved on regular logout and no other time, if you just exit game without doing logout first you could get the frames to keep coming up. welcome to blizzard UI team doing an excellent job with QA
Just me or does the default WoW raid frame pop up a whole lot now?
I'm looking to make switching specs a one-button macro. The only thing I'm missing is a line switching between two SUF-profiles(Caster and Healer are their names). Is this possible?
Im looking for some help regarding BUFFS STACKING, when i played WoW with SUF half year ago, my buffs (at my character frame) were starting from bottom lane and then they grew up. Now i cant do this, it only starts from top and grow bottom :/ is there any way for buffs to grow downwards?
here are screenshots of what is now and what was half year ago (look at buff numbers at my character) - http://zapodaj.net/df5ca1871bdd.jpg.html - http://zapodaj.net/82917ee2c486.jpg.html
