TankMastery
TankMastery is a helper add-on for tanks. When used, it can:
- watch your target, and produce a self/raid/party/channel message if it gets taunted/knocked-back/mocked
- show you an icon about the targeting review of the moment (if it is targeting a tank, if that tank is targeting it back etc) [v0.70+]
- can warn you if your taunt failed [v0.90+]
It is mainly created to encourage synergy between the tanks, improve the raid quality, see who is being a "bad boy" and if possible, minimize such encounters. : )
- Taunt System at the very moment supports single target taunts, AOE taunts, mocks, pet threat spells and knock-backs. You can use it to pinpoint which dps is knocking back the mobs making it harder to tank/build aggro (Thunderstorm, Typhoon).
- TankWatch-Icon feature helps you to quickly pinpoint which mob is going out of control or which one can be taunted to take the load of other tanks easily/safely (with their current targets in mind).
- TankMastery HyperSense (TM-HS) is a new experimental feature to provide you more taunt/pull information. Will probably add more features to it in the future.
Sample output:
- XXX taunted YYY using ZZZZ.
- XXX mocked YYY using ZZZ.
- XXX knocked-away YYY using ZZZ.
Few Important Reminders:
- "Tank X taunted a mob off me and addon didnt track it!"... Please note that by design, addon *only* tracks taunts on your target (any type), NOT other adds on you. We dont wanna be spammy, yet we want to be effective. In future versions I might add setting to enable that as well; let me know if you really need it.
- "Tank Watch icon is sometimes a little slow to update!"... Do note that addon entirely depends on client reporting changes and new targets; so any lag in connection, or any lag in wow client notifying us will delay the icon as well. TankMastery (as of 0.85) *only checks your and your target's target changes; the effect on performance is expected to be *very negligible.
- "TM-HS is sometimes/always wrong!"... HyperSense feature is very experimental and hence the results can be sometimes not accurate. We have limited window to WoW's real events and such guesses can be surely prone to errors. Got suggestions for it? Let me know. Hate it? Go to options and turn it off.
(Recent) New Features:
- Automatically enables/disables based on class/stance.
- Basic configuration screen (able to choose where to report)
- [v0.70+] Target review icon
- [v0.80+] Player/Self failed taunts (resists/immune) are watched as well now.
- [v0.88+] HyperSense
Future to-do list:
- Thinking if we should check for failed taunts of other tanks on our targets...
- different output channels for different tracked events?
- maybe checking for taunts on other tanks' mobs?
- improved configuration screen (what to print out, who to check etc)
- ... even more, who knows. Addon name is very general, why not make use of it :)
Feel free to post your constructive comments/suggestions; and spread around the word. Thanks.
thanks for quick reply by the way. i just noticed that i was not updating the visibility of tankwatch icon on stance changes... on next build when not tanking icon will hide as well. *if it spills out taunt warnings on cat mode that is not good as that was working on prior versions... will see if that can happen.
Mostly 5 mans, I haven't pulled aggro in raids to find out what icon it uses while in cat >.>
hmm... that I will check again. While I check the code, quick question: were you in raid at that moment? (possibly set as a raid tank on raid interface? atm there is a known issue that if you are set as MT on blizz interface it overrides your cat/ret/fury/arms stances. will check that for next build as well)
v0.75 tested, updated, standalone libraries (LibQTip-1.0 r112, etc.), USEnglish client/server. Following options for TankMastery are set:
--"Ninja Sound": Fel Portal
--"Output": MikSBT (running v5.4.59), Sticky, Notification.
--"Secondary Output": disabled
--"Enable QuickTankWatch" checkmarked/enabled.
Logon with a level 70 (protection spec) Warrior who is tanking. Enter a a 5-man instance with a party. Sometime through the run, the following error is thrown up (recorded with BugSack/!BugGrabber mods):
["message"] = "TankMastery-v0.75\\TankMastery.lua:390: attempt to compare nil with number\n<string>:\"*:OnEvent\":1: in function <[string \"*:OnEvent\"]:1>\n\n ---",
["type"] = "error",
["time"] = "2009/06/14 21:38:12",
["session"] = 431,
["counter"] = 6
As shown, the error repeated 6 times during the session. The 6 repeats did not happen all at the same time, they occurred throughout the run. Which indicates that its throwing up an error instead of doing what its supposed to when a target is erroneously taunted/knocked-back/mocked or similar.
Also, the TankMastery icon was visible (and locked into position), but provided no indication of anything at any time.
Hopefully you will be able to get this in working condition again sometime soon.
One thing I've noticed is that even when I'm in ret or cat form, I still show up as a designated tank when I have a mob on me. Not a huge deal, but yeah. FYI
hmm has anyone managed to try out the alpha v0.71? any inputs, comments, suggestions on the icon feature etc? would be nice to have some actual informed info before i proceed and release next version...
:) lemme see what i can do about it.
I used to be a huge fan of Tank Warnings. I know there are <Insert tank skill skill here> warning mods/macros. They don't cover all tanking classes... thoughts? :)
Thank you. I am with you on that request, though seeing that there are add-ons for that purpose out there and I am sorta evaluating if it will be worth to repeat them (or rather, thinking if i could add something interesting to it?). At the very moment *first-next-cool feature that comes up to my mind is 'to show an icon on screen if your target is being tanked (well rather, targeted) by another tank' to even further minimize ninja-grabs. You could check target of target (of your mob) and check threat meters, but thats sorta messy during mid-fight, isn't it... That sounds like it could be really really great feature (not like end-all-be-all of course, rather a quick check point), though still in very draft phase. Hmm... ideas... many of em...
Incredible idea, may I recommend adding in a taunt resist announcement and allow us to customize what is said.
