Telepathy
PLEASE NOTE
Since my daughter was born in August last year I've not had the time to play WoD so I've not been able to maintain Telepathy. If anyone would like to take over development, please let me know, otherwise I will continue dev as soon as I get a chance to play again. That being said - I don't think that there have been any API changes which will prevent it from working in WoD.
TELEPATHY is the induction of mental states from one mind to another.
In WoW terms, this addon provides an extension of a players normal skill set, joining the minds of raid and party members into one awesome whole, together capable of feats never before dreamed possible.
Most Important: Telepathy is nothing alone - try it with your friends to see its true power!
What Is It?
Telepathy is an addon aimed at allowing players to share their spell books, as well as see each other's cooldowns. The idea is that you publish an ability from your spell book via Telepathy, which is then added to your party/raid members' Telepathy Spell Books. They can then choose from the list of fellow player's published abilities which ones they would like to use in combat. The ability is added to a Combat Window, which monitors the cooldown of that ability, and allows the player to send an instruction to use the ability to the owning player.
Instructions (User Guide)
- Open the Telepathy Spell Book by using the slash command /telepathy (or /tele).
- Drag the abilities you want to publish to the lower bar of the Spell Book - there will be two bars if you have dual spec enabled.
- Right-click on your ability in the Spell Book to remove it.
- In the top pane of the Spell Book are your party members' published abilities - left click to add to the Combat Window, right click to remove from the Combat Window.
- During combat, you will see the abilities you have chosen to watch in the Combat Window, including the cooldowns for those abilities.
- Left-click on another player's ability in the Combat Window to send that player a request to use the ability.
- When you receive a request, your ability will light up in the Combat Window (and possibly play a sound, depending on your settings).
- Clicking on one of your abilities in the Combat Window will cast the ability (it is an action button).
I recommend using this addon with OmniCC to get the cooldown timers nicely displayed on the buttons.
Anyone who can help with translations, please visit the Localization tab on the WowAce site for Telepathy, it would be greatly appreciated!
Notes and To Do List
On the To Do list:
- Smarter/more efficient spell list updates when joining a group
- Better animation effect for ability requests
- Layout improvements
- Full item support
- Code cleanup (the code is all over the place, as this is pretty much the first addon I am releasing so I was learning along the way)
This addon looks like it could be very useful, I wish I'd heard of it sooner. My raid team used no cooldown addon while we were 10man and we used Hermes while we were 25man. For 20man Mythic SoO we pretty much yolo everything with no addon since it's like LFR.
For WoD I want to use Telepathy, if it works. I haven't tried it in a raid yet, I've only tested it by multiboxing two resto druids. But my druid's names start with the same three letters so it was confusing as to which cooldowns belonged to whom. The addon did seem to work for the most part, I couldn't tell if there were any bugs. I didn't get any lua errors.
So yeah I'm wondering if you are continueing development for Telepathy?
Hi lolcats,
From what I know there have not been any breaking changes to the UI which would prevent Telepathy from working in WoD. That being said, I've not been maintaining the addon due to time constraints; my daughter was born just two months ago, and I've found that a baby girl is quite time consuming :)
I'm hoping to run it through some tests sometime soon, but if you find anything in the mean time don't hesitate to post bugs reports here or on the Wowace page.
Stay well,
Arc
After having tried this out in guild during our raid last night, most of our guild had a very large problem noticing the warning sounds and visuals the addon gives. Is there any chance to get more ear catching sounds to choose from?
Hi st1ckman,
If you have a look at the Interface->Addons->Telepathy configuration options, there are 14 sounds to choose from. I tried to pick some that were subtle but audible, and some that were down right in your face. If you can think of any extra sounds to add to the list please let me know, it won't take too long to add them.

Hey Arclight555. Since MoP has made them a lot more important than ever, how hard would it be to implement healthstone cooldowns for everyone in the raid? It's an item and not a spell so I assume it would require a lot of work but I hope it doesn't.
I looked for an addon that can give a raidwide overview of healthstone cooldowns but haven't found it yet.
Hi - yes indeed, one of the original goals of the addon was cooldown and item tracking combined. It is possible, just slightly more tricky. I am definitely going to be adding that feature.
Any chance at including a disable window function to hide it without turning the addon off? I dont have much open real estate for my ui, and my raid leader likes us using this addon.
Hi
There are two things you can do here: resize the combat window by dragging the bottom right hand corner to make it smaller, or if you want the frames hidden completely just type "/telepathy hide". Also have a look at the configuration options in the Interface -> Addons menu, you can detach the "foreign abilities" panel from your own abilities and move each frame separately.
Hope this helps - Arclight
First time using this, I have MY spells done, how do I add other people's spells? I don't really see a "directory" per se.
Hi, to see someone else's spells, you will need to be in a party or raid with them and they must also have published the spells they want you to see via Telepathy. Then you can start tracking those spells and request their use during combat.
tell me how to work it, instead of when its actually working
Hi
I'm sorry, I'm not sure what you mean? For usage instructions, please see the "Usage" section in the addon description above.
Is there something in particular I can help with?
Great addon <3
