BetterAddonList
Fancy up the default AddOn List! Inspired by ACP by sylvanaar and it predecessors.
BetterAddonList has the following enhancements:
- Search!
- Move the panel.
- Create sets that allow you to quickly enable or disable groups of addons. Including multiple sets in one allows you to create base sets of addons for enabling across multiple characters.
- Shift-click the check box to "protect" an addon, preventing it from getting disabled.
- Enabled addons with missing or disabled dependencies are shown in red.
- Load AddOn button is always shown for unloaded load on demand addons.
- See how much memory enabled addons are using.
Slash Commands
/addons
- show the addon list, /bal
and /acp
can also be used
/addons load [set]
- enable only the addons in a set, other addons are disabled
/addons enable [set]
- enable addons in a set
/addons disable [set]
- disable addons in a set
/addons save [set]
- save all enabled addons to a set
/addons delete [set]
- delete a set
/addons disableall
- disable all addons
/addons reset
- Reset addons to what was enabled at login
Protected addons will never be disabled.
added macro parsing, so "/bal [mod:shift] disable SET; enable SET" should work now
There may have been an excited utterance when I read the changelog. Where's the donate button?
Hi. Can I make BAL select "All" by default?
It'll always try to be char specific, what's your use case for wanting all? If you want all your characters to use the same addons, I don't see you having much use for this addon?
Hello. Thank you for a great addon.
Can you do sets with checkboxes, like TooManyAddons? To make it easy to select multiple sets. Do this by using the menu is very uncomfortable.
I couldn't live without this addon, who would've thought an addon could handle my addon addiction? An addon for all my addons, brilliant! Is it possible to get some way I can always load a default set for my (as an example) druid? And then when I get on my hunter I get all my hunter's set? Sort of like profiles i suppose, but profiles that still respect the auction's set lists as a whole?
Let me know if this doesn't make sense to you, or if there's a better way of doing this.
To elaborate, my current setup is:
Certain addons that are split up in modules are placed into sets called "Addons - Mogit", "Addons - TSM" ... I then have one set for activities, called "Activities - Business" and "Activities - Questing" which load these different addon sets.
The order is usually Addons linked to -> Classes linked to -> Characters and then an optional load of the activity set that I'm planning on doing.
This took a lot of clickin' to do and it was done (and still done) over an extended period of time. I don't know if there's a simpler way to do this, more dynamically, less hard-coded?
Great job on this addon though, I switched over from ACP due to a bug where it kept disabling all my addons and I had to re-enable them every time I logged in.
The option to group sub-addon/folders/modules into a single click, similar to what ACP has.
For example: Datastore comes with 1 main module and 10+ sub-modules. It would be nice to have an option where you can group them together and only click the main module to enable/disable all of them.
thanks!
Great addon TYVM !
It seems that BAL no longer saves per-toon, even when I thought I am selecting it. I have my character's name selected, but when I enable/disable things, it affects all of them.
Hi Nebula,
I'm unsure if it's just working incorrectly, or if I'm using it wrong. When I previously used AddonControlPanels, it allowed me to set a specific Set of Addons on "All" characters on that server.
I would select the "All" from the Character Tab at the top and I would've assumed this would be all I needed to do for this, but when I log over to something else, the changes don't take effect for them...just the toon I'm currently using (After the ReloadUI).

Edit:- Disregard what I said about Addon Control Panels allowing me to set "All" characters to use a specific addon set. Went back to it and apparently you couldn't...I must've just set them individually and then logged out. Regardless, I would like to know what the "All" part means on the drop down?
Thank you very much for the change. Quality of life has been restored!
Appreciated.
Should be fixed now! Sorry about that, DisableAllAddons was changed to affect all characters instead of just the current one
Patch broke something.
On EVERY character I log all addons are disabled and I have to enable BAL, reload, load profile, reload.
Same as ACP.
Real pain.
Same issue appears on original ACP addon.
EDIT: Yep, tested, both addons fail :-(
I feel like someone chopped off one of my hands...
Odd, I haven't seen it happen on any of my toons, but I'll look into it
Everything was fine until I changed the addon set - thus going to my set of raiding addons - and after that the issue started
I've also noticed other addons not keeping their settings and I believe Blizzard mentioned something about CVar handling being changed in 6.2
I also have the same issue jgwallace3 has described.
I actually still used an old version of Addon Control Panel, and that also suffered from the same issue...so I'm guessing something has changed on Blizzards side of things.
Thanks for the 6.2 update!
I have a problem, though, and don't know if it's this addon or blizz, but my addons don't persist being 'enabled' between logons. I logon and have NO addons enabled on one toon. I use BAL to load my 'standard' set, reload the UI, logoff, see them listed on the charcater screen addons list, jump to another toon, come back to the first and everythings disabled...
Has anything changed with keeping addons enabled?
Update: I'm able to 'fix'/get around this by loading a set of addons, reloading ui, loadinganother set, then reloading -- after that it sticks as before.
I also suspect blizz...
Update 2: My workaround doesn't work ... reverted to the empty list yet again. Frustrating.
Update 3: r21 has fixed it. That expalins why it always felt like I was getting reset :)
How soon before we can see a 6.2 version?
