Elephant
"Shoot... what did he say again? I just got disconnected."
"Didn't that folk already loot that rare item 10 minutes ago?"
"I really wish I could remember the name of the item linked on the guild chat yesterday at 9:00 PM."
...
Already been in one of these situations? Don't be annoyed anymore, here is the solution!
Solution to chat loss annoyance
Elephant logs the chat for you in the background even when you get disconnected. It saves the WHISPER & BATTLE.NET, RAID, INSTANCE & BATTLEGROUND, PARTY, GUILD, SAY, YELL and OFFICER chats separately, but also all general chats (General, Trade, LocalDefense, ...), custom chats you are currently on, achievements, loots and finally system messages (auctions, rolls, server going down, ...). You can easily go through all these logs, thanks to a straightforward interface displaying all the access buttons on the right side of the main window. You can access the options of the addon by typing /elephant and also bind a key to pop up the addon.
Elephant gives you the ability to copy up to 100,000 (yes, 100k) characters of logs to another application. A BBCode feature is even included, letting you copy/paste a chat with colors and links to an item database in a very quick and simple way to your favorite forum.
This is THE addon that you should install if you want to never forget what somebody told you in game. Be a pro of managing hell tells, go peacefully AFK for a few minutes, or be an awesome role player. Elephant is also perfectly designed for Guild Leaders, Officers and Raid Leaders particularly because it restores the chats after you've been disconnected.
Main features
- Logs the chats in the background, with a limit of 10,000 lines for each chat (Blizzard's default is 161 lines for everything).
- Saves the logs when you log out or get disconnected.
- Display the chats with timestamps, or using your Prat settings if you have it installed.
- Copy the chat and paste it in other applications (BBCode supported!), up to 100,000 characters.
- Save the chat and combat log in two different files on your computer (using the default Blizzard logging system).
Other features
- Use filters to avoid logging some of the custom channels you join.
- Enable/disable logging for each chat separately.
- Item links in logs are displayed in their proper color and are clickable.
- Player names in the main window are clickable.
- ...and much more!

Which language are you using? Do you have an error log that I can look at?
EDIT: I believe I know what's going on. I will test it out ASAP and send release a fix if it is, indeed, that. An error log is still appreciated!
In reply to AllInOneMighty: Thanks, the latest fix works. Sorry I didnt provide logs or respond after the initial post, my WOW time has been severely limited the last few weeks in personal life mode.
My settings for the channels were wiped recently but not the settings for the window position. I didnt notice until a few days ago. All channels were enabled again. I only need one channel recorded.
We really, really need a button to "disable all" and "empty all".
In reply to Zasz_:
Noted! I will try to add the "disable all" and "empty all" options to Elephant.
That said I am sorry that your channels were wiped :( I took a lot of care for this not to happen... but it seems a situation might have escaped me. Do you know what happened so I can reproduce it?
The latest version, that's migrate all Chats of a Realm is a very bad idea. 10.000 Lines per Realm is very short and to clear all history without a warning to the user is a bad idea too. I don't lost anything, but I can't see it anymoore in the game now.
I dont't need a chat of another char of the same realm. It should be a optional feature to combine all that chats together.
In reply to Zwixx:
Hello Zwixx,
Sharing logs with all characters of a realm is a new option that you can choose to enable or not. In the settings, if you DO NOT select "Share logs with alts", the logs will be proper to the character that is currently logged in and will NOT be affected by other characters.
By default, this option is NOT enabled, so this update should not have impacted you.
Elephant hasn't been recording anything for me since the 10.0.5a update
Reverting to 10.0.5 fixed it immediately. There were no errors with 10.0.5a
In reply to GraysonCarlyle:
Fixed it last night. 10.0.5b is the version you want :)
Dunno if these are "boss emotes" but a lot of yells of creatures in the open world are record in yell and raid. Like:

In reply to nihlolino:
Those should be normal creature yells, not boss emotes. This shouldn't have changed from before. You can decide what is logged in each window by clicking on the chat bubble at the top right of each log window.
Well check the WotlK error later today or tomorrow. Thank you for the report!
For WotLK...it's actually better to use the retail version now instead of the latest tbc version ?
Can you please add WotLK version to curseforge? The TBC version works fine but curseforge app yells at me I'm using the wrong game version. Thanks!
The keybinding to toggle Elephant doesn't appear to be working on retail. As in it doesn't appear in the list of keybindings so there's no way to set it or use it. I uh... took a break from WoW of several years and I used to use the Elephant keybinding all the time, but I only just got back into things, so I have no idea whether this is something that just broke, or has been broken for a long time. Thought you'd want to know.
Thanks for making Elephant, it's such a great tool!
In reply to Ireneista:
Should be fixed in 10.0.2b!
In reply to AllInOneMighty:
Yep, that did it! Thanks for the fast turnaround.
I feel like I should say, every time I get back into WoW, Elephant is literally the first addon I install. It's been really nice being able to rely on it. Have a good day!
Can I ask why the "PARTY" tab captures every yell? There's a separate "YELL" tab. Yet I cannot run a raid without rendering the "PARTY" tab completely useless and spam covered with boss yells.
In reply to FlynnZeke:
You should be able to disable them on the party tab. Top right of the window, the little chat bubble will allow you to select what is logged in that tab.
Sometimes it is useful to have those yells when someone from the raid reacts to them.

What do I have set wrong for it to repeat it three times?
In reply to Kauqilla:
You might have other addons that multiply the event, which is out of my control. Have you tried to only run Elephant and see if it still happens?
Hi.
Love the addon .. it's excellent for those of us with bad memories when we just know we said we were going to do something for someone, but then just couldn't remember what it was! As a guild leader, it's also a handy tool for when someone starts arguing they didn't say something (or they did) .. when I can just scroll back and copy/paste back to them exactly what they did say :P
By the way .. your description above is inaccurate, at least for retail - it can no longer hold a copy of officer chat. It's there for a bit, but then it just converts to "unknown".
Is there any chance of this being updated/hosted elsewhere, too? I've been using wowinterface, but it doesn't look like it's been updated for a while. Alternatives would include having a release version on github, or using wago, wowuphub, etc.
