Elephant
"Shoot... what did he say again? I just got disconnected."
"Didn't that folk already loot that rare item 10 minutes ago?"
"I really wish I could remember the name of the item linked on the guild chat yesterday at 9:00 PM."
...
Already been in one of these situations? Don't be annoyed anymore, here is the solution!
Solution to chat loss annoyance
Elephant logs the chat for you in the background even when you get disconnected. It saves the WHISPER & BATTLE.NET, RAID, INSTANCE & BATTLEGROUND, PARTY, GUILD, SAY, YELL and OFFICER chats separately, but also all general chats (General, Trade, LocalDefense, ...), custom chats you are currently on, achievements, loots and finally system messages (auctions, rolls, server going down, ...). You can easily go through all these logs, thanks to a straightforward interface displaying all the access buttons on the right side of the main window. You can access the options of the addon by typing /elephant and also bind a key to pop up the addon.
Elephant gives you the ability to copy up to 100,000 (yes, 100k) characters of logs to another application. A BBCode feature is even included, letting you copy/paste a chat with colors and links to an item database in a very quick and simple way to your favorite forum.
This is THE addon that you should install if you want to never forget what somebody told you in game. Be a pro of managing hell tells, go peacefully AFK for a few minutes, or be an awesome role player. Elephant is also perfectly designed for Guild Leaders, Officers and Raid Leaders particularly because it restores the chats after you've been disconnected.
Main features
- Logs the chats in the background, with a limit of 10,000 lines for each chat (Blizzard's default is 161 lines for everything).
- Saves the logs when you log out or get disconnected.
- Display the chats with timestamps, or using your Prat settings if you have it installed.
- Copy the chat and paste it in other applications (BBCode supported!), up to 100,000 characters.
- Save the chat and combat log in two different files on your computer (using the default Blizzard logging system).
Other features
- Use filters to avoid logging some of the custom channels you join.
- Enable/disable logging for each chat separately.
- Item links in logs are displayed in their proper color and are clickable.
- Player names in the main window are clickable.
- ...and much more!

Also, are there any plans on allowing channels (primarily whisper) to be logged globally separate of the rest of the channels?
In reply to psydfexrein: There is unfortunately no plan for that right now. You can either have everything global or everything local to each character.
What is "Loot Method" and what is "Emote" versus "Text Emote"?
In reply to psydfexrein: Loot Method is when the group owner changes the... loot method (e.g. round robin to something else).
Emote is for emotes supported by the game, such as /laugh
Text emote is for emotes that player type, such as "Bob picks up a flower from the ground."
Why is it not allowed to be downloaded in CATA?
In reply to mysticvoodoo76: It will be soon! I need to fix a couple things.
In reply to mysticvoodoo76: It is now available for Cataclysm!
Where can I find my Characters logs? Like when transfering from one realm to the other I know you could find the old logs of other characters somewhere but I forgot
In reply to voidfoxxxy: If you're talking in-game, you have to enable the "Share logs with other characters" option.
In reply to AllInOneMighty:
Heya, no no
I remember once clicking around and opening Elephant in Notepad++
There I saw my Characters and Their realms. I once had a realm change and managed to change my Characters name to the one I had on the old realm in that file and there I had the logs from the old server. Now I can't find that file anymore.
Hi! My roleplaying guild plays on Cataclysm Classic and we use Elephant for our story logs! It is super useful to us and we are incredibly grateful for its existence. Now that Blizzard has added Blizzard Groups to the game, where you can add a channel from a Blizzard Group to your chat window as a custom channel, it would be very convenient for us to switch over to using that, except that they don't show up under the custom channels section of Elephant.
Would it be possible to implement these getting logged in game like regular custom channels? I know there might be some strangeness with how Blizzard usernames get saved in the logs, but even if it's just "[id: q51]" like we have in our Whisper logging at the moment from Blizzard whispers, it would still be massively helpful to us.
In reply to Luridel: I will look into it!
Any way to enable instance logging for WotLK ?
Can't see it in the logging window under Raid like shown in the screenshots
In reply to Gh0sT120: I just added it!
Is it possible to read the blizzard auto censored messages? Someone messaged me "youre upset" and it blocked that which is pretty ridiculous.
In reply to psydfexrein:
I believe that's an option you can disable in your WoW settings, it isn't something the AddOn can do anything about. The option is called something like "Filter offensive messages"
In reply to AllInOneMighty:
yes, im aware of the setting, but no it does not prevent this. It's under options>social>censor messages/mature language filter, and this has always been set to "no one" and unchecked, but this is just baseline blizzard censoring it.
In reply to psydfexrein:
The addon does nothing to filter messages; it logs them how they are received by the API and nothing else.
Are you using Prat and Prat formatting? If so it may be coming from that. Otherwise you might have another addon interfering. If Blizzard filters the message at the source (i.e. before the addon can catch it), there is nothing that can be done.
In reply to AllInOneMighty:
Im not using any other chat addon, no. Blizzard is filtering it, but they give you a text link within the chat frame you can click to reveal the message, so I just assumed that might be able to be bypassed by an addon and viewed regardless.
elephant is not saving the luas
when i copy the lua folder and turn it to txt i get the saved log from some months ago and nothing new
tried creating a new lua by deleting the old one
