GnomeWorks TradeSkill Frame -
a complete replacement for the blizzard trade skill frame.
I am in the process of getting my addons back up to speed after the patch, and I decided to try to switch to GW from skillet. I can't seem to get the inventory part to work though. For testing purposes, I have a few glyphs in my bag, a few in my bank, gbank, and a ton on an alt. The only place the inventory column is showing anything at all is for inks. Any tips would be appreciated.
mktag: ah. right, okay. yeah, i don't think there are any filters active for cost right now. probably should test for that before generating the tooltip. the filtering mechanic is kind of a generic feature of my ui system so the hooks are there, they're just not used for that specific column (yet?)
sarah: thanks again for your support. i totally understand where you're coming from with your critiques and suggestions. i'm a bit of a critic myself, so i totally get it. i don't understand the queue frame popping up for you at login. it's never done that for me, but then my development has so far been somewhat cloistered in the safety of low level toons who don't do much other than stand around cities issuing /reload commands. quite frankly, i haven't played much since 4.0.
i will change the way the scanning works to only scan when needed. need = viewing the tradeskills/queue of a particular player. if you don't view an alt, it won't scan that player.
i've been trying to simplify the load process in order to eliminate potential problems with data not being properly initialized. it's a lot easier to just initialize everything at once, but i'll spend some time figuring out what needs to happen when.
intagir: i'm hoping that gnomeworks becomes *the* crafting mod. yeah, no pressure.
I want to take a moment to say that LilSparky has done some amazing work with LilSparky's Workshop and now GnomeWorks. I may not agree with every design decision he makes, but I unreservedly believe he's building a potent suite of very useful tools.
That's why I've donated money. If you appreciate his amazing work as much as I do, I would urge you all not to overlook the Donate tab in the upper right.
Thank you LilSparky, Sarah and the rest of your users
If you hover over the word Cost in GW it says "Right Click to Adjust Filterings". I have done so to no avail. Do not get any kind of menu or anything. It appears to do nothing at all.
So one thing that goes with the popping-up-in-combat issue is that I lately seem to sometimes have GW opening both the queue / shopping list and my bags on login. This is happening when I have no recipes queued for any characters. I don't think I have any other add-ons that would pop open my bags, let alone my trade skill window, so this may be a bug in GW.
I don't think you should ever open a window at login. Certainly not if there's nothing queued. Even there are queued items, I think it could wait until you visit a vendor, auction house, mailbox or bank. If there is some disagreement here, this would be a perfect thing to have as a preference.
One reason I suggest delaying initialization until it's needed is that there are corner cases around being in combat. If you disconnect during a raid pull, you may not be flagged as in combat right away, but you will probably be within seconds of reconnecting. I'm concerned that any kind of on-startup activities, especially if they can potentially pop up a protected window that we'll be unable to remove during combat.
I get that it may be a bit tricky to maintain the on-load mechanic for loading at trade-skill window, auction house, mailbox, bank or vendor. That kind of behavior probably would not be the development highest priority. However, I don't see why that wouldn't be the ideal case. The whole point of AddOn Loader (which I have used for quite some time) is to delay the stuff you don't need until you actually need it.
Stuff like scanning all your alts’ recipes is a lot easier to swallow when it's part of an action you initiated—especially if it can be delayed until you actually open a crafting window. It's a pretty common UI principle: a small wait in reaction to a user-initiated action is much more palatable than waiting on something you didn't even want to do right now.
As a general rule, people don't like stuff popping up unless they initiate some action. This is why Microsoft Office's paperclip was one of the most hated UI decisions ever. It offered good functionality and was helpful. People hated that it jumped up in their face whether they wanted it or not. Different people have different levels of tolerance for this kind of stuff. Mine is fairly low when it's for a special-use tool within a much larger game. I often log into a character and don't do anything related to professions.
Making this kind of loading extremely granular could be a lot of work, but there are probably some low-hanging fruit here that would make it seem a lot less overbearing. For example, I don't imagine you really need to load in all the alts’ skills except in two cases: there are queued items or you open the trade skill window.
GnomeWorks is a great tool. All my feedback, suggestions & criticisms are only made in hopes they will help make it better.
Really love GnomeWorks. Used skillet before.
I mass produce glyphs. Got few problems ideas.
In the reagent section of the queue anyway to show how many inks need? So know how many to exchange for. I noticed that it does recognize some of the inks from the trader but not all. Would have process get 9 of said ink. But wouldn't get midnight, celestial, or jadefire.
Also notice after everything make, it pauses. I think maybe doing a scan?
So when doing 300+ of ink it almost locks up completely. Can see the bar move, locks up, then done and halfway through next one, locks up. If there is a way to remove that pause would be awesome. Remember in previous versions would have the scan go along top. I'm assuming its same scan just don't see the scan bar this time.
All else working good. Using ktq and workshop.
Lilsparky: "that's a case of the trade skill data simply taking forever to come across. if you disable gw and view your tailoring with the default blizzard frame, you'll likely see that it has no group headers"
Hmm, you're right! I hadn't noticed this behavior before trying out GnomeWorks, I just assumed it was related to the AddOn. But as you mentioned, even the default frames aren't displaying anything.
Thanks for clearing that up ... can't wait until things are stable again with my favorite game (which ironically won't happen until there's a giant Cataclysm).
Lilsparky: Most excellent. I am using it now to make about 200 - 300 glyphs a day and it is just fantastic. r58 was better in the way it related to Jessica Sellers but r59 is getting there. I see r60 is out now so will get that tonight and test. Will be so much better with the AH mod.
mook, that's a case of the trade skill data simply taking forever to come across. if you disable gw and view your tailoring with the default blizzard frame, you'll likely see that it has no group headers. if you inspect all your recipes, you'll probably find that some reagents are blank or even the crafted item isn't showing up. it really seems like 4.0 has introduced some real drag on getting data to the clients. probably related to the new streaming update system.
i'll see if there's some way i can help force that data from the server, but unfortunately there's not much to do other than simply wait... unfortunately, patches clear the local cache and i'm sure blizz will be pushing loads of patches for 4.0 over the next few weeks.
skelgaard: do you get any sort of lag when simply putting something into your bags?
bowlam: skillet didn't track auctions, but there was a mod for skillet that added this ability using datastore. gw will have this ability natively as i incorporate the ah scanner. my goal will be to actually track the current inventory of items at the ah whether they're yours or not. this will allow better selection of crafting paths for items.
tested r60.
no txt in any chats, just lag after done with the milling or creating ink.
i don't have "major inventory, but i do have 7-8 different ink stacks in inventory, which i see as very normal to go around with.
if you do a real debug version that does some sort of debug output after a mill or ink creation, i will gladly do it and run it, so you can get the log, to see the "error"
for now, i unfortunately have to disable the addon, as i can't be milling 5-10 stacks of herbs and making inks of them, taking 3-5 times as long as normal.
have done a careful build of product to test the inventory.
It will follow the item on the inscriber, in the guild bank ( I have my own guild to transfer items between banker and builder) and it will follow the item to the banker. Inventory shows the item in the various colours representing the various places the item is resting. Once the item is listed in the AH it disappears. I believe this was something that Skillet did very well. I could see my Runescroll of Fortitude or my Faces of Doom even in the AH. I could not see them when they were in transit via email once the Auction had ended.
If I am wrong please correct me about Skillet and it showing me the item in inventory while it was listed ijn the AH.
Having said all that if GW wont do that it is not that big a deal. Just thought I would pass on some info.
I really like the look of this AddOn, but can't seem to get it to show me my Tailoring. Installed (r60), logged in to the first of 10 characters to check it out - Cooking, First Aid, Leatherworking all show fine ... but it refuses to display my Tailoring (449/450) even after numerous reloads and log ins. Haven't moved on yet to testing on further characters.
It displays a message like 'Press to Skip Stalled Scan (Tailoring)' - if I press to skip, naturally Tailoring doesn't display. If I don't press to skip, I've left the message up for as long as 15 minutes and it still never goes away.
Anyone else having Tailor troubles?
(Really looking forward to this reaching release-state ... Skillet was one of my favorite tradeskill AddOns, this looks even better! :) )
ok ... most excellent. Have installed r59 and for my two bobs worth there appears to be an issue now with the buying inks. In r58 I could happily purchase all my inks from Jessica with the click of a mouse button as GW listed the bilk numbers at the bottom of the queue. Now in r59 it wants me to buy the mats and make the inks. if i right click on the required ink under the glyph in the queue I get to select the same ink but nothing else. I cant change the way GW is wanting me to make the required ink.
Hope this helps in a small way. I am now just clicking on the ink I need individuallly and getting them that way.
PS I am making about 200 glyphs each night so was real happy with r58.
regarding addonloader: gnomeworks does indeed utilize it. right now, it's simply set to always: delay. it might be enough to reconfigure it to initialize when appropriate, but the list of when it needs to load might be somewhat large given that it hooks into many frames.
i've simplified the loading process without addonloader due to the added complexities of timing issues and interactions with the main api. clearly initializing while in combat is probably not a good idea. i'll try to clean up the loading process as the project continues to mature.
mktag: gw will definitely handle vendor items and automated purchasing. i want to also include automated auction house purchases as well.
i definitely need to add some overall ability to send a link/name to the ah search box.
not sure what you mean about configuring the cost changes...
you can auto buy mats from vendors but it doesnt seem to work with certain ones. at least not inks
inks arent autobuying from the ink vendor, and they arent auto pulling from the banks either
it also wont let me bypass a recepie in my queue if im missing an ink for it, i just want to goto the next one, but i basically have to delete each one in my queue if i dont have ink or delete the whole queue entirely to craft anything else..
it would be nice if i could disable whatever gnomeworks thinks it knows about milling and ink making because i dont want to use it for that at all
also i dont know what the select recepie source right click menu is supposed to before.. but it doesnt seem to have but 1 option that does nothing

i'll look into it. it's possible that crafted items are not being recognized as important to track.

the move to top of queue feature really helps
thanks!
btw it would seem that yours is now the most popular crafting queue addon there is (the only working one maybe?) no pressure ;)

lilsparky: gnomeworks still doesn't interface correctly with OverAchiever. Just to note ;)

The problem with the inks at queue its that gw assume that: plants > pigments > inks > glyph
But if there are not 5 plants, there any pigment possible... and show you have 2,5 pigments at bank with 4 plants :/
