Gnomish Yellow Pages

Table of Contents

This project is abandoned and its default file will likely not work with the most recent version of World of Warcraft. Whether this project is out of date or its author has marked it as abandoned, this project is no longer maintained.

The Gnomish Yellow Pages will monitor all chat traffic to identify people advertising trade skills. As trade skill ads are identified, they are recorded and stored for later retrieval.

type: /gyp

to bring up a window with all information in an easy to read table.

strangers names appear in white guildmates are displayed in green friends are displayed in yellow

anybody in your local zone is shown in cyan

all offline players are red

the row of trade skill buttons will access the entire database of trade recipes so you can search for whatever recipe you wish. click to open whatever trade skill browser you use.

when browsing a trade skill, selecting a recipe will cause gyp to update the trade link color to light blue if that recipe is contained in that link. also any searches in the trade skill browser will be reflected in the gyp link color -- links that contain none of the recipes returned by the search will be dark yellow; normal yellow links indicate that at least one of the recipes in the browser window matches the trade link.

I tried around a little bit.. deleting the Gyp-Folder in the addons-directory before installing new didn't work, deleting the .lua in the wtf/account/name/SavedVariables directory and then installing new didn't work either.

GYP always scans after logging in, and always ( tried differend chars on different servers) gives me the error shown above, after which typing /gyp doesn't work at all.. which basically means that GYP doesn't work at all.

okay, i think i see where it might still be goofing, but you said it's still scanning? that doesn't seem right.

there are two issues currently with gyp.

1. opening your own trade skill causes an error

2. when first logging in, gyp might crash when it tries to update your old ads to the current patch version. you can solve this one by removing your saved vars file, but that will remove all the old trade links!

since trade links in 3.1 are rather messed up (like you can't click on most of them) i would think the problems with gyp are minor in comparison. i'll get a new version up soon, i hope.

theres another issue, lilsparky:

often times when I "open" gyp, and click on one of the profession-links at the top, to get a list of that particular profession and those that announced thir skill in them, the "profession" won't open (just like often times trade links in general), but it would add myself (with the current character I open gyp with) on top of the list, just overtaking someone else's "description of their profession" and adding my name instead of theirs. My current character for example now is shown in gyp as being a jewelcrafter (420) and tailor (433), even though its just a lvl 38 shaman, being an inscription / herbalism character.

well hope this gets fixed and updated shortly, otherwise my advise would be that i hope you keep the old bliz lua files seperate somewhere so that you could use a program such as "beyond compare" that will highlight the changes that bliz made to their files, which in turn will tell you what would have to change in your addon files. ;) if i still had the time to dink around with addon's i would of done it but i dont do that anymore so i dont have the old versions. that and i quit doing that back at the end of my EQ2 days lol.

But good luck and can't wait to see it up and running again especially with the current links still broken in game

looking into the problem. can you verify that what flyhard posted is the same problem you've all had? namely the line of code that fails and whether "CloseTadeSkill()" is listed in the stack trace...

Edit: I did several /reloadui, and whenever I try to open my own profession after a reloadui, I got the error. However, if I first opened "gyp" and clicked a profession there, and afterwards clicked on my own, it worked well.

I've noticed the error only pops up if you try to open your own trade skills. For example, GYP worked perfectly fine while I was running around finding scribes & enchanters last night, until someone asked me to smelt a Titansteel Bar for them. Then the profession window refused to open and the error mentioned below popped up each time I clicked on a trade skill either on my bars or in the spellbook.

Feature Request: Monitor for tradeskill requests in chat (option: just whispers, or also include Guild and/or Party/Raid) using a specific format, and auto-respond with names of characters that can create those items.

Example: Player needs to get a gem, let's say "Jagged Forest Emerald" cut. In Guild chat, they request it by saying "LF [Jewelcrafting: Jagged Forest Emerald]". GYP catches this, and responds in a whisper "Online: Toon, Char | Offline: Noot, Rahc".

Notes:
1.) This thought was inspired by Auctioneer Advanced's "Price Check" feature... it'd be really useful to have similar functionality in GYP.
2.) The search string IDEALLY should not have to have an itemlink. Since there are such obvious delimiters ("[", ":", and "]") for it should be relatively simple to search from a faux itemlink that was hand-typed. (Example below)

interesting. i wonder, tho, if a more automated system might be worth while. for example, using the gyp interface itself to query other party/guild gyp lists for specific crafters. or perhaps even to sync between two users.

this sort of gets into what "guldcraft" does, so perhaps it would be a more logical feature of that mod...

I love the idea, but I was wondering how do you get back to the full list once you are in a specialization?

Is there a way to have it update the list if the player is logged in, basically do a query and then show the updated info on the list.
