HandyNotes: Battle for Azeroth Treasures and Rares
Want Shadowlands treasures and rares? I have something for that.
A HandyNotes plugin to show the Battle for Azeroth treasure items on your map. (That means it requires HandyNotes, so go install it as well.)
This includes:
- Items found in one-off chests that're mysteriously glowing purple.
- Items dropped by rare mobs.
Items that you've already collected and mobs you've already killed won't be displayed. This uses the "flag" quests that the game relies on to keep track of the items. Sometimes these glitch; generally if they do so, you also won't have gotten achievement-credit / the item, so you'll likely still be interested in the item.
You can right-click on any treasure node and hide it, if you just don't want to see that one. If you have TomTom installed, you can also add a waypoint for that node.
To edit the settings, visit the HandyNotes config panel, expand the "Plugins" section, and click on "Battle for Azeroth". You can then choose which treasures to show, and whether to show ones you've already found.
Want to help?
If you'd like to submit corrections, please go into the settings as mentioned above and turn on "show quest ids". Then let me know the quest id for the node you want to correct, which will now appear in its tooltip.
If you'd like to submit a new node, you have two options:
- Tell me where it is. I'll go find it eventually and track down the more obscure details I need to add it.
- Gather these details yourself and send them to me:
- Zone and coordinates.
- What it gives you. This is mostly "a random gray, and some Azerite".
- The quest id associated with it. This is the tricky one. The easiest way to get it is to install QuestsChanged before you open the treasure, then open the treasure and check it to see what quest was triggered.
What else might help me find things?
- Handy Minimap Arrow will make your player-arrow on the minimap appear above all the notes I'm adding to it
- What's On The Map? will show a list of the vignettes currently up nearby
- Minimap Range Extender will make map vignettes visible from further away
I'm waiting for it to be approved over at HandyNotes: Shadowlands Treasures. (The link won't work until the moderation happens.)

Thank you
https://www.curseforge.com/wow/addons/handynotes-battle-for-azeroth-achievements has been deleted for some reason so it likely wont be updated anymore. Any plan to update this handynotes to include the remaining acheivements? Such as
In reply to MaybeSnoop:
I would like to see the BfA Achievements module incorporated into this add-on if possible as well.
Okay, those are all in there now.
In reply to Kemayo:
Thanks for working on adding them. Truly appreciated
Would be nice to add the pvp treasures too.
Just curious if there are plans to update to include all the new 8.3 rares and treasures. Thanks!
can you add option to remove the skull from map if the achievement/loot is already obtained?
The problem with this addon is that is is just a dump of everything.
If i want to hide mechanized chests, i have to hide all nodes on every character 1 by 1 or hide treasures all together because there is only 1 check in the options
It doesn't hide rares that have already given their rewards either
I like it for the 6 principal zones but the last updates messed up a lot of my visibility on the new zones
I will revert to pre-8.2 update
The two Hoppin' sad frogs furthest east are switched when you loot the one at 65,51 the other at 69,58 vanishes.
Any way to automatically hide rares you killed and got the blue prints from them?
A lot of rares are not coming back the next day after you kill them in Nazjatar - Tidelord Aquatius, Elder Onu, Voice in the Deeps are the 3 I noticed, though I'm pretty sure there's more.
Caverndark Terror's icon is in the COMPLETELY wrong place, as well. You're also missing icons showing where the 4 "hidden" ancient rares are. (Oronu, Urduu, Anemonar, and Kelpwillow).
This addon also shows where world quest "rares" are, but they aren't actual rares. They're just silver dragon portraits that spawn to kill for world quests. They don't drop anything, and Blizzard even clarified in a blue post that they aren't rare spawns.
Is this still working? to me I can't see any treasures on map.
☠️
Can you please make it function more like the warfront rares handynotes? With the larger skulls that are purple when you havent gotten the drop yet, white when youve gotten what they drop and hidden when youre loot locked?
its also not really necessary to show rest in pistons achieve progress since most will be done that fairly quickly.
Lot of stuff could be added to this - nazjatar chest locations, cat figuine locations, mechagon construction project locations, etc
and some rares have more than one spawn point which the other handynotes modules do well, (see draenor treasures) but this one is lacking atm.
will also be nice to add the note functionality where hovering over the skull says "in cave" or "entrance at these coords"
Thanks
I cannot upvote this enough. It would be a huge quality of life change to make this addon perfect
A lot of the Nazjatar rares have multiple spawn points, are you planning on adding those? (Rares like Soundless, for example)
Then the slugs, snails, crabs, etc. can spawn in place of any of their common version in the entire zone (this is why you can see for instance the Amethyst Spireshell over by the Murlocs, but then also see it by Mezzamere a few minutes later). I believe even the piranha fish can as well. (I've seen the Daggertooth rare in 3 different places on completely opposite ends of the map, so I can only assume that's the case, and it doesn't just have 3 different spawn points on 3 completely opposite ends of the map) So having a single marker for them is a bit pointless. (It would be easier to have a skull on the side where you can mouseover and simply have an explanation "Can spawn in place of any common level 120 snail in the zone. Often spawns on the roof." "Can spawn in place of any elite hermit crab in the zone." Etc.
Then there's Sandcastle, which spawns when you use the Scrying Stone to find chests. It can spawn instead of a chest on ANY of the chest locations, in which there's HUNDREDS in the zone. So again, it'd be easier to have a skull marker on the side with an explanation on mouseover.
That way people can still keep track that they need them for the day if they're hunting, but you aren't littering the map with a million spawn points for them, but also aren't inaccurately telling people they ONLY spawn in this one place.
Unlike Soundless and a few other rares (you can find those out if you check the achievement page and check the individual rare pages, I can go through and get you a list if you need me to?), where we know it just has a few static spawn points as it's in the same area, these literally do spawn all around the zone, and spawn in place of their common variety.

It'd also be nice to have the option to disable the rares that aren't required for the achievement (without having to manually hide all of them), since they don't have a loot pool, and often only spawn when the quest to kill them is up.
I've been using TomCats Handynotes, but I vastly prefer this one for the simplicity. But right now, his is more complete, so I'll stick to it, but if you manage to get yours more up to date, I'll definitely be enabling it again for the zone.
I've added some Nazjatar treasure nodes
