Prat 3.0
In loving memory of Jon Akthar (Sylvanaar)
Hello WoW community, I'm LuciferCatnip, Sylvanaar was my coworker and my mentor. It goes without saying that Jon was an amazingly talented individual. He always seemed to know everything… but he once said to me "It's not about knowing the answers, it's about asking the right questions", he always challenged me to ask me the right questions until I would arrive at the answer on my own terms. Jon was also a champion of the open source movement, and so with special thanks to Gil from Curseforge as well as Sylvanaar's family, there's no better way to honor Sylvanaar's legacy than to keep his project going strong in the community.
If you'd like to help maintain Prat, please reach out to MysticalOS or LuciferCatnip directly. Thank you so much.
About
Prat-3.0 is a chat enhancement addon for World of Warcraft.
It is made up of 30+ smaller "modules" which each provide additional functionality, and can be enabled or disabled individually.
In game, type /prat for a menu. Or use the icon on one of the many data broker hosts.
Prat has just about every feature you can think of, and then some. Really. When I get some more time, I'll try and put together a full list (Even I have lost count)
(Thanks to Dreamsight for this partial list)
- Sync your chat settings across your account (Beta)
- Machine learning powered spam filter (Beta)
- Change arrows, buttons, mouse scroll for chat scroll, scroll speed
- you can add player color per channel, color per level, color per class
- timestamps (styled)
- whether to show timestamp (what format the timestamp should be in)
- whether to show players level
- you can select the option for channel "stickys" (last channel you used you auto use when hitting enter, that sort of thing – or last thing someone said)
- change the looks of the chat's editbox - as well as where it appears (you can even undock it and move it to where you'd like it to be)
- chat fading, fading delay
- You can change the font to a list of fonts, add an outline to it, monochrome it (if you don’t mind messing with files a bit you could probably even add other fonts to that list)
- change the chat frame/chat box appearance
- Keep chat history between game sessions
- Set channel abbreviations
- set brackets and color(or something instead of brackets)round player/lvl
- alt invite option (press keyboard “alt” button and click on the player’s name to auto inv them)
- raid icon
- invite links - click them to invite the person
- URL copying
- Full chat copying + copy button
- Click timestamp to copy line
- Configurable alerts when your name or other word is mentioned
- enables tell target /tt which whispers your target
- Alias options - make macros into short commands
- See names of players Alt characters
- change chat sounds (incoming and outgoing as well as per channel)
- Achievements info and grats
- Full chat search and search box
- Customizable filters for advanced users
- Show item icon next to item links and player class icon next to player names
- Icon-only options for newcomers chat
- Optional flashing or font color change for chat tabs when a new message comes in.
You can enable/disable all Prat modules - don't have to have the ones you don't use running
While trying to reduce resource utilization, it is also important to note that some people prefer the features, and don't care that an addon uses 500k more.
If you're still looking for new features to add, It'd be amazing to have a bit more customization for the chat bubbles module.
Specifically, I'd love to be able to change how many characters it takes to cut off the message when Shorten Bubbles is enabled, and toggle whether or not they expand to full length when moused over.
I have my chat set up a certain way so dialogue and chat shows up subtitles style in the center, but i'd love to keep the speech bubbles as an indicator of where the dialogue is coming from in the world since it doesn't always have accompanying voice acting. Shortening the bubbles even further and making them stay shortened is a good way to accomplish this but I can't find a single addon that lets me do this. Tons that remove the bubble and keep the text, but not the opposite like I'm looking for.
after update i cant right click to replay any one or check or report
In reply to oxed: You've check that this isn't the case when Prat is disabled?
What has caused Prat to start preferring Battletag whispers over in game whispers? This happens to me all the time now and to people that I do not share battletag with. This frequently causes problems with the whisper not going through or people who receive it can't see the name of the person that it was sent from so they don't know who is talking to them. This just started about 2 months ago or so?
Wasn't sure if this was a prat thing or not, but it doesn't happen with default UI.
In reply to Rashaka1: Not sure why that's happened. No updates I can see to the codebase should have caused that.
If you can roll back a few versions and see if it still happens.
In reply to plusmouse: This is still happening
Just to let you know, I think the latest update (3.9.64) has caused a conflict with the Bartender4 plugin, causing a green square to always appear over the bag icon after a reload. I've fixed this conflict/bug temporarily by downgrading to the previous Prat verison (3.9.63).
In reply to HueSync: Kinda. Its just exposed an issue with the Bartender code, which has now been resolved.
Every time i get a whisper i get Player not found.
I'd appreciate some clarity on what "AI powered" means in this context. I was excited to learn about Prat until I saw that in the description, as I'm generally opposed to the use of Generative AI for most purposes. I want to know if this is using GenAI for spam filtering or if it's just labeling something "AI" that was used before the advent of GenAI before I download and support it.
Having an issue using the most recent versions of WIM and PRAT 3.0 on WoW Classic (Classic Era) for message formatting receiving the following errors when responding or chatting. This only occurs when I have Prat selected in General -> Message Fomatting "Manipulate how WIM displays messages."

Minimize button seems to be completely gone. Toggling the selection in the options doesn't show a button anymore. Tried resetting profile entirely, reinstalling addon, disabling all other addons, etc. Just no way to minimize the chat window.
clicking ot invite doesn't work cause prat trys to use the sever name as well and I gues show it does it doesn't let you invite people
Why does everyone bash AI into everything, now even an addon?
Uhh... this one has many comments, hopefully someone can help me. So, I'd like the tooltip of prat to fade away slowly like the default blizzard UI one, is there an option for fading tooltip window instead of 0.5 seconds to increase it to like at least 3 seconds? Thanks. EDIT: ideally it would be nice to be able to have all these comments on one single web page so i can ctrl+f and type "tooltip" to find answers containing the needed subject.
Where's the option to show player levels in Trade Chat, General Chat...etc...?
Hey could you create an option for the IM style chat bar at the bottom of the box? I don't like that empty space at the bottom of the screen. Thank you for the addon :)
Still no news or plans to fix the issue that has existed since TWW started where the text scale in chat always resets to 12 when you do anything?
We've only had toc updates for new versions but no bug fixes.
In reply to zeith47:
Do you use the Memory module?
In reply to plusmouse: Memory module? A while ago prat came with 2 folders, but after a while it only came with one, currently when you download the addon it only comes with one folder.
I haven't changed any settings, I've only tried to change the text scale and it resets itself when you reload, enter another character, get a message, etc. I've done several addon resets, so it's not a problem with my files and it only happens with prat.
Edit: I think I've found the problem, checking the addon settings I've seen that in ''Font'' the text scale remains at 12 and is not updated when you change the size from the chat (as it has always been done), so it's a bug in the addon that doesn't update these options with the changes you make in the chat.
