Talented adds spec templates to the Talent UI.
Talented 3
Talented is getting a large update for wow 4. It will no longer replace the default UI but add a new Tab to it, with most of the previous functionality present.
There is an alpha release available on wowace. It's still missing some major parts, but it should give you an idea of the new interface.
Talented_Loader is no longer needed (and in fact will create problems if left installed, so remove it at once).
Update feature List
- Create and view templates for all classes and all pet types.
- Set a specific template as a target, and see it when you're spending your next talent point on level up.
- Apply complete templates with a single click, after a talent wipe.
- Hunters can view the spec of their pet and apply templates to them.
- Share your current build with other, or any template you've made.
- Import templates directly from the Blizzard Talent calculator, wowhead or wowdb.
- Export templates as URL to wowhead, wowdb or the Blizzard Talent calculator.
- Allow pet templates to be imported from and export to wowhead pet calculator.
- Inspection of other characters will also inspect their alternate spec, if they have one.
- A macro command /talented apply <template> allows to automatically apply a template based on its name.
I'll let you know if it recurs.
See http://www.wowace.com/projects/talented/tickets/31-conflict-with-cowtip-concerning-tooltips/
CowTip is unmaintained, and has a lot of issues. I would suggest not using it. It forces the tooltip that Talented creates to Show even though Talented never ask it to be shown.
Hey Jerry.
This note for the latest release intrigued me: "merge r442 (working fix for CowTip)"
What was wrong with CowTip and Talented? I stopped using CowTip because it was giving a memory block error, and am wondering if it was related to this.
As of now, there isn't really any useful feedback, as I have knowingly broken Talented. It was needed to be able to integrate pet talent trees.
I will release an alpha when I feel I need feedback. I hope to have an alpha ready sometime next week.
Is there an option to cache talent trees?
You don't need to inspect others to get their talent trees.
Is there anything useful we can provide if we're running the latest alpha on PTR?
I do have a small complaint - that is on the lack of explanation of the options, or perhaps the confusing options. After wiping my talents clean, I was trying to make a custom template to save my talent choices to. I clicked 'look at playerX' talents, then I clicked apply - next thing I know, all my talent points were spent, and I had a talent spec I didn't want. Very frustrating. So when I'm about to spend ALL my talent points, there HAS to be a warning. I even had confirm learning checked. Of course, I didn't realize the significance of don't warn when applying a full template' option. I think your default settings are wrong with those two options. There should be one option for 'confirms on' and IF that one is checked, a second option will be available that says 'confirm EVERY talent'. Naturally, that should be defaulted to off, since it would get annoying. I can't think of why anyone would want that option, anyways. If I accidently spend one talent point where I didn't want it, its not a big deal and I know what not to do next time. However, for me to do what I did, which was accidently spend 71 talent points... well... You need to design it so that will never happen.
And why would I want to view priest specs if I'm a rogue? I have no need of it ever, other than amusement purposes, in which case I'm probably going to look it up on wowarmory, instead of relying on some old cached data. Please take out all the other class' options, or at least put them in their own dropdown, separate from my class' templates.
What is a 'profile'? As opposed to a 'template'? I thought they were the same thing but obviously not. I think you've put too many options and features in that aren't necessary and clutter up the real features. I program mods, but I can't figure out what some of your features do, even after trying them all. If its not instantly obvious, it probably isn't needed.
You need some kind of directions or tutorial or how-to. Either here on curse or within the mod somewhere.
Try to get your mod to work like the talent calculators on many sites. They have an intuitive interface. Left click to apply the talent, right click to un-apply. When I create a new template, I get an empty talent sheet - when I click it, I expect something to happen. I shouldn't have to go down and click 'edit template'
Also, you might want to check out the mod Talent Planner. It has a nice way to expirament with talent builds without actually spending talents. When I want to apply the talent, in Talent planner, I have to do a /tp standby which is dumb - maybe you can just have a 'finalize talents - warning, this will spend your talent points and apply the current template' button. :)
templates are different - they are just a talent build as you'd expect.
Don't use non-released version. The trunk right now is only compatible with the PTR.
I do release beta or stable version quite often, so there's no real reason to blindly download the latest trunk revision and hope it works.
