Rarity
NEW: Rarity now has a Discord server!
If you're interested in following the development process or contributing, you should also check out the official GitHub repository. We're always in need of more hands to help us make the addon better!
Rarity tracks how many times you've tried to obtain various rare items like mounts, battle pets, and toys. It will tell you how likely you are to obtain the item, track how long you've been farming for it, and tell you how lucky you've been so far. Although it's mostly used for mounts, battle pets, and toys, it supports pretty much any item, including profession patterns, archaeology projects, and more.

Out of the box, Rarity includes support for every single mount, battle pet, and toy in the game which require some time to farm. It also includes support for some mount-related items like Skyshard, Primal Egg, and Giant Dinosaur Bone. It'll even notice if you mouseover a Mysterious Camel Figurine, plus lots of other stuff. Rarity factors in the size of a typical group when determining probabilities, and can also tell you if you've killed various bosses this week (or day). Holiday just started, and you didn't notice? Rarity will give you a helpful reminder to run those holiday dungeons or daily quests if you still need an item from them.
If Rarity doesn't track something you want to track, you can add it yourself! Just about everything is user configurable.
Curious what math is going on behind the scenes? The author of Bunny Hunter created the original algorithms. He wrote an article about it here. Your chance to obtain an item doesn't increase as you farm it; Rarity is just telling you how lucky you've been so far. It can be remarkably cathartic to see a progress bar move up as you spend hours upon hours trying for that Disgusting Oozeling.
Main features
- Rarity is primarily an LDB feed with a large tooltip. It can function as either a mini-map icon (you have to turn this on in the options), or as a standard LDB feed (use a display like Fortress, Button Bin, Titan Panel, or Chocolate Bar).
- Provides a progress bar, which you can toggle by clicking the icon or feed label.
- Adds info to NPC and item tooltips, showing you if it drops or contains something that Rarity tracks. Rare mobs with a guaranteed drop show which item they drop and if you've defeated them yet.
- Includes full source info, telling you how to obtain everything Rarity tracks.
Other features
- Share packs of items with other users
- Can automatically add waypoints to TomTom for certain items
- Uses statistics whenever possible to keep track of attempts
- Breaks your farming down by session, day, week, and month
- Looks at your instance locks to see if you've defeated various bosses recently
- Reminds you if you need to farm a holiday dungeon or daily quest, and hides holiday items that aren't available right now
- Supports bonus coin rolls
- Automatically screenshots when you obtain an item
- Keeps track of rare achievements like Frostbitten and Glorious
- You can add your own items to track
- Lets you modify your attempt count without having to edit saved variables
- Automatically imports data from Bunny Hunter if you're switching
Slash Commands
Simply typing /rarity should open the options menu (unless disabled).
For troubleshooting issues:
- /rarity dump displays the most recent debug log entries (even if the debug mode is disabled)
- /rarity validate checks the consistency of your item database, including custom items (experimental)

Great addon! Thanks for putting this together.
I have a question about one aspect of the functionality. Is the name(s) of the NPC(s) supposed to show up when I have my mouse over the mount/ pet/ item name in the drop down? I see that locations show up zone and archeology drops. Am I doing something wrong, or am I just looking for something that isn't there?
I did troubleshoot a bit; I disabled all of my other addons, and I still wasn't seeing any NPC names.
Nope, unfortunately. Rarity uses NPC IDs rather than names (because otherwise I'd have to localize all the NPC names into every language). I'd recommend using Collectinator (available on Curse) or look the item up on WowHead. Rarity isn't intended to give you all the background on HOW to farm an item, just help you track THAT you farmed it and for how long. :)
This is a known issue and I don't know of a fix at this time. My recommendation is to use the Archy add-on for your archaeology. It does not have the same problem as the default UI.
Hey this addon seems to bug the Archaeology interface, when Rarity is enabled whenever I solve a project (eg. Night Elf) it switches to a different project page (Vrykul) once it's completed. It's a bit annoying because I need to keep switching screens to see what my next actual project is.
I disabled the addon and it fixed. Enabled it again and it started doing it again. So i'm sure it's to do with Rarity. and it's the latest addon I downloaded too.
Any Idea if it's fixable? I tried solving the Vrykul project it keeps switching to but it still does it. And tested it on an alt as well (it switches to Troll page for that toon).
Working as intended. I have no idea what you mean by your second statement.
your addon realy freaked me out... baught a pet off the auctionhouse and it poped up...also when i clicked it all my achievements said for the alliance
Sorry for not following up and for not bieng clear.
the second statement was. when i opened my achievement window everysingle achievement was named.
For The Alliance in every single achievement spot when i was horde. This would happen when i clicked on the pop up achieve, it opened up my achievements window and every achievement said for the alliance. regardless of if I was on alliance or horde. I have no idea if it still does this, I just thought I would follow up on this.
sorry about the extreamly late reply.
The first part was just that it startled me when I purchased a pet of the auction house and it went off.
I will get back to you if I win this pet of the Black Market Auction house and am able to test it.
Not sure if it's been mentioned, but Rarity seems to track Blazing Drake from deathwing kills, which include Raid Finder difficulty. It doesn't drop from Raid finder...
I found this after the fact, because last mount I tried for was Fiery Warhorse, then I did raidfinder, and it shows last mount tracked as blazing drake. I can't change count because it auto updates to overall kills.
Known issue, can't be fixed. Blizzard counts LFR mode as the same as normal mode.
No, Rarity knows the difference between heroic and normal. Blizzard made the mistake of lumping LFR with Normal. Heroic is still separate. Hopefully they split into 3 proper difficulties in the next tier.
Would this also mean that the addon has no way to distinguish between normal and heroic dungeon difficulty for tracking e.g. Battered Hilt drops?
Rarity have stopped counting my attempts on getting the Swift White Hawkstrider, I'm not sure if it was after an update of the addon or after gettig the companion - but it doesn't count.
Any suggesting of how to trace the error ?
It seems pretty random, sometime it counts other times not
Can it be because i'm killing him to fast and not start floating around in the air +
Hmmmm.... I haven't replied yet because I'm not sure what the problem could be, especially if it sometimes works. It's supposed to track your Statistic (under your Achievements window) for that kill, NOT your looting of the boss. So it could be that Blizzard has a latency or bug with statistics?
Unfortunately, I have nearly every rare in the game at this point (and no alts), so I can't reproduce the issue. I will look at the code again, however.
Edit: I don't see a problem with the code, so the best solution would be to remove the statistic from that item. Blizzard must have a bug with it. That means that historical kills of KT would not be counted if you weren't running Rarity.
hey guess what i download thing and thourt i try to get Toxic Wasteling and.... got it on my first go in my first bag =)
That's correct! But I'm adding it to the defaults anyway. :) Thanks for the suggestion!
Hi, I've noticed that the Strand Crawler pet from the fishing dailies hasn't been included in this addon. I've added it through the Custome tab as:
Obtained by using an item or opening a container / Companion
Iteam ID: 44983, Spell ID: 62561
Items to Use: 67414,46007
Chance: 100
Is the above correct?
@Reeb
Ah, that would make sense. The only way Rarity can detect a project solution is when the Fossil fragment count goes down. I'm afraid there isn't going to be a way around this particular issue at the moment, since I can't depend on projects always consuming more than 15 fragments, nor can I depend on you always getting a different project than you had prior to the solution. There also isn't a good way to correlate a quest turn in with the currency event, and I don't want to be in the business of hardcoding quest IDs in any case.
Sorry for the inconvenience! Ask Blizzard for an event when a project is solved. :)
When you hand in the quest Fun for the Little Ones http://www.wowhead.com/quest=29507 it uses 15 Fossil Archaeology Fragments. Rarity seems to count this as a Fossilized Raptor attempt. Thought i let you know on the off chance it hadn't been reported.
The Toxic Wasteling is a drop based on luck, and it would be nice having it in Rarity so I can start QQ next year, about alle the attempts I have had
I added Toxic Wasteling just now, but you'll have to manually enter in how many attempts you made since it wasn't counting them this year.
