Rarity
NEW: Rarity now has a Discord server!
If you're interested in following the development process or contributing, you should also check out the official GitHub repository. We're always in need of more hands to help us make the addon better!
Rarity tracks how many times you've tried to obtain various rare items like mounts, battle pets, and toys. It will tell you how likely you are to obtain the item, track how long you've been farming for it, and tell you how lucky you've been so far. Although it's mostly used for mounts, battle pets, and toys, it supports pretty much any item, including profession patterns, archaeology projects, and more.

Out of the box, Rarity includes support for every single mount, battle pet, and toy in the game which require some time to farm. It also includes support for some mount-related items like Skyshard, Primal Egg, and Giant Dinosaur Bone. It'll even notice if you mouseover a Mysterious Camel Figurine, plus lots of other stuff. Rarity factors in the size of a typical group when determining probabilities, and can also tell you if you've killed various bosses this week (or day). Holiday just started, and you didn't notice? Rarity will give you a helpful reminder to run those holiday dungeons or daily quests if you still need an item from them.
If Rarity doesn't track something you want to track, you can add it yourself! Just about everything is user configurable.
Curious what math is going on behind the scenes? The author of Bunny Hunter created the original algorithms. He wrote an article about it here. Your chance to obtain an item doesn't increase as you farm it; Rarity is just telling you how lucky you've been so far. It can be remarkably cathartic to see a progress bar move up as you spend hours upon hours trying for that Disgusting Oozeling.
Main features
- Rarity is primarily an LDB feed with a large tooltip. It can function as either a mini-map icon (you have to turn this on in the options), or as a standard LDB feed (use a display like Fortress, Button Bin, Titan Panel, or Chocolate Bar).
- Provides a progress bar, which you can toggle by clicking the icon or feed label.
- Adds info to NPC and item tooltips, showing you if it drops or contains something that Rarity tracks. Rare mobs with a guaranteed drop show which item they drop and if you've defeated them yet.
- Includes full source info, telling you how to obtain everything Rarity tracks.
Other features
- Share packs of items with other users
- Can automatically add waypoints to TomTom for certain items
- Uses statistics whenever possible to keep track of attempts
- Breaks your farming down by session, day, week, and month
- Looks at your instance locks to see if you've defeated various bosses recently
- Reminds you if you need to farm a holiday dungeon or daily quest, and hides holiday items that aren't available right now
- Supports bonus coin rolls
- Automatically screenshots when you obtain an item
- Keeps track of rare achievements like Frostbitten and Glorious
- You can add your own items to track
- Lets you modify your attempt count without having to edit saved variables
- Automatically imports data from Bunny Hunter if you're switching
Slash Commands
Simply typing /rarity should open the options menu (unless disabled).
For troubleshooting issues:
- /rarity dump displays the most recent debug log entries (even if the debug mode is disabled)
- /rarity validate checks the consistency of your item database, including custom items (experimental)

why doesn't Rarity track battered hilts by default? is it because of the extremely low drop chance?
Because nobody has asked for it until now.
i suppose there's no point in adding it if i'm the only one that has asked, just thought it would be interesting to see how many mobs i kill every time i go in there, thanks anyways :)
You can add it yourself if you like. Just add an Item obtained from a Zone and enter in the zone(s) where it drops. (Been years since I farmed it so I forget if it's just one zone or several.)
not tracking direhorns anymore, i lost my tracker of them and they are no longer listed after last update.
Read the change notes. They should still be tracked, but they are now hidden by default because they have a high drop chance. Go into Options and uncheck "Hide high chance items".
Almost ;)
My custom items are in the list, but instead of a tooltip for the items i get this error:
Oops! r180 fixes that.
Nice :)
Good changes, but my custom items are not listed ("Hide high chance items" is off).
And another little thing: If you got an empty list in the tooltip, is it possible to remove the complete list? The header is still there.
Hmm, I'll look into that. Pretty sure my Custom item was working. I'll see if I can eliminate empty header rows, but I may not be able to. It's a bit tricky.
Edit: latest build fixes the Custom item issue.
I tried to check, but missed those notes. My bad!
And thankye for the rest. <3 Love this addon, reminds me I'm making progress even if it feels like I'm not (like 2.8k+ attempts into a grind for one Skyshard).
No worries! I feel your pain. I'm at about 2k for my 6th Skyshard. And now I'm spending all my time on dino island instead! :\
Some things I've noticed since 5.2:
Primal Egg pops up a toast every time I log in, if one is in my bags. It then logs this as a drop in Attempts, meaning just one Primal Egg has caused a clutter of 0-attempt 'drops' in the Primal Egg mouseover.
Green, Black, and Red Primal Raptors are confirmed from the Primal Egg. Egg always holds a mount, so it's a 1 in 3 chance of seeing a particular color. Thus it's far, far higher odds than 1 in 20. Probably safe to only track Primal Eggs.
Addon seems to go off and on with whether it accounts Primordial Direhorn attempts with Warbringers (it may count a Slate attempt for one Slate kill, and then not count one for the next Slate kill), and counts it as found when one drops--taking it off of tracking whether or not you win it.
The Primal Egg and Primal Raptor issues are already fixed with the latest build. Please get it and read the change notes.
Rarity intends Warbringers to be soloable. Since that seems to not be the case, I'll change them to not be soloable. That will fix your issues. As it currently stands, Rarity expects YOU to loot the Warbringer, or the attempt is not counted. And when it sees it, it assumes you won it. Both of these things will change in the next build.
Edit: Done in r176.
Have you acknowledged that there are some new pets with 5.2?
You can find a list here: http://www.warcraftpets.com/wow-pets/new/
Thanks for the tip! Do be aware that I no longer collect pets, so I rely on comments from users such as yourself to help make me aware of new companion pets.
I'll have to think about it further, but I'm considering making a change to Rarity where you can pick which content level you want to see items for. (i.e. Classic, TBC, WotLK, Cataclysm, MoP). This way users can refine the tooltip somewhat. It's getting far too big for practical use. Either that, or I may have to draw the line against including items with a high drop rate (say, 1 in 20 or better). Something must be done to counteract the gigantic tooltip problem.
So let me give that some thought, and I'll decide how to proceed. In any case, I'll continue to need a bit of help from you pet collectors in order to keep them up to date. Thanks!
Yes, the tooltip is very uncomfortable to use. Especially if you use the minimap-icon.
I think you need an extra window like the archaeology-window or the dungeonbook (don't know the english name ;) ).
An extra window isn't going to happen—it's too much of a rewrite (and I don't want it that way). The next build will clean up the tooltip a bit and will give you the ability to clean it up more.
everytime i open my bags rarity pops up with a toast for skyshards. ive tried deleting and reinstalling the mod and it still does it
