Rarity
NEW: Rarity now has a Discord server!
If you're interested in following the development process or contributing, you should also check out the official GitHub repository. We're always in need of more hands to help us make the addon better!
Rarity tracks how many times you've tried to obtain various rare items like mounts, battle pets, and toys. It will tell you how likely you are to obtain the item, track how long you've been farming for it, and tell you how lucky you've been so far. Although it's mostly used for mounts, battle pets, and toys, it supports pretty much any item, including profession patterns, archaeology projects, and more.
Looking for Rarity Item Packs? Click here.
Out of the box, Rarity includes support for every single mount, battle pet, and toy in the game which require some time to farm. It also includes support for some mount-related items like Skyshard, Primal Egg, and Giant Dinosaur Bone. It'll even notice if you mouseover a Mysterious Camel Figurine, plus lots of other stuff. Rarity factors in the size of a typical group when determining probabilities, and can also tell you if you've killed various bosses this week (or day). Holiday just started, and you didn't notice? Rarity will give you a helpful reminder to run those holiday dungeons or daily quests if you still need an item from them.
If Rarity doesn't track something you want to track, you can add it yourself! Just about everything is user configurable.
Curious what math is going on behind the scenes? The author of Bunny Hunter created the original algorithms. He wrote an article about it here. Your chance to obtain an item doesn't increase as you farm it; Rarity is just telling you how lucky you've been so far. It can be remarkably cathartic to see a progress bar move up as you spend hours upon hours trying for that Disgusting Oozeling.
Main features
- Rarity is primarily an LDB feed with a large tooltip. It can function as either a mini-map icon (you have to turn this on in the options), or as a standard LDB feed (use a display like Fortress, Button Bin, Titan Panel, or Chocolate Bar).
- Provides a progress bar, which you can toggle by clicking the icon or feed label.
- Adds info to NPC and item tooltips, showing you if it drops or contains something that Rarity tracks. Rare mobs with a guaranteed drop show which item they drop and if you've defeated them yet.
- Includes full source info, telling you how to obtain everything Rarity tracks.
Other features
- Share packs of items with other users
- Can automatically add waypoints to TomTom for certain items
- Uses statistics whenever possible to keep track of attempts
- Breaks your farming down by session, day, week, and month
- Looks at your instance locks to see if you've defeated various bosses recently
- Reminds you if you need to farm a holiday dungeon or daily quest, and hides holiday items that aren't available right now
- Supports bonus coin rolls
- Automatically screenshots when you obtain an item
- Keeps track of rare achievements like Frostbitten and Glorious
- You can add your own items to track
- Lets you modify your attempt count without having to edit saved variables
- Automatically imports data from Bunny Hunter if you're switching
Slash Commands
Simply typing /rarity should open the options menu (unless disabled).
For troubleshooting issues:
- /rarity dump displays the most recent debug log entries (even if the debug mode is disabled)
- /rarity validate checks the consistency of your item database, including custom items (experimental)

Thanks. really usefull addon. I love it
@chicknlil25
You are probably getting a Lua error. Please make a ticket and paste in all the Lua errors you see.
Hello there!
Been using BunnyHunter and have now made the move to Rarity. On the vast majority of my characters, the import worked flawlessly, but on the two characters I'd really like to track things on, it won't import.
The import box pops up on login (or reload ui), and while the option to press yes is there, doing so does nothing - the box remains, and won't go away until I press no - and rarity still doesn't show the information about the creatures I've been tracking.
Any thoughts/suggestions?
@Zurgzurg
Nothing has changed in Rarity. Please try reinstalling the addon. That error is originating from a library, not from Rarity's code. Rarity is still functioning properly at this time.
Hey Allara,
Thought I would share had to reload wow (long story:) But when I logged in for the first time I got this error.

Is it me or is the swift white hawkstrider missing from list ? I can not see it on the list and also ive just killed the boss that drops it and no change to tracking ?
edit: ive just found how to track items but it wont let me tick it?
thanks
You must already have that mount. Why would you farm it again?
Yup, now will output to guild chat! (to bad the link wont work) Odd, I even tried a new download/install of wow and had the same error with the old build. Well if it helps I use windows 7 64 bit.
Well, I still don't know why it works for me but not for you. Nevertheless, I've just committed a change so Rarity uses the item's name instead of link. This should fix the issue for you.
Try using an addon like Archy instead of the default archaeology UI. Rarity doesn't interfere with Archy. What Rarity does is necessary in order to support arch project detection, which is one of the major features.
Love the add on, but i'm run into a slightly annoying problem.
When I have Rarity on when ever I solve an archaeology project in any category, the info for Flint Striker appears and I have to back out at least to the race selection menu and back before I can solve another project.
Strange that it works for me but not you, I'll have to look into it more tomorrow. The item link definitely worked for me in guild chat today, testing with the Fox Kit.
Thought I should mention, it is able to link the item in the other announcements, just not the channel one.
I'm using enUS.
What locale are you running? (enUS, or something else?) It seems the item link is causing the error, but the same thing works just fine for me in enUS.
@Allara, finally figured out how to see LUA errors:) I have everything disabled but autoloader and rarity. Also have channel set to guild. Fresh install of Rarity, also deleted cache, wtf. Here is the error I'm getting. Perhaps its just my computer but just in case its not.

Thanks Zurgzurg!~
As I said, try reinstalling Rarity, and make sure you're not running the no-lib version. Check if there are any Lua errors. I'm unable to reproduce the problem, so you'll have to keep experimenting.
@Allara,
All of the announcements will work except for "channel" (the party/raid one will say not in party/raid so may work once I test those) but the rest of them guild,say, yell will not display any information. I've tried reloading, deleting my cache, wtf folder, disabling all addon's but rarity and still nothing will show when looting a mob. Tested it on killing gundrak raptors. Any other ideas on getting it to work?
@Zurgzurg
Hey Zurgzurg,
I just tested in-game, and guild announcements are working just fine for me. Setup exactly as you described. Killing a mob doesn't do it, you need to loot the mob in most cases. Try various other channels to see if they work. Also try reinstalling the add-on, making sure you don't install the "no-lib" version.
As far as I can tell, the feature is working properly.
Hey Allara,
Love the add on, is there a trick to the announcements, or is it broken? I have "Channel" selected w/ "Sub section" marked as "Guild Chat" but when I complete an arch project or kill a mob it does not announce to my guild that I attempted? (And for the rares I was tracking announce is turned on) (Perhaps there could be added a "test announcement" button in order to see how it will be outputted.
